Why so much Samus Negativity?

I think someone needs a friend to hug. That's a lot of hostility you are carrying. Let's just agree that Samus is bad until proven god-tier in the court of tournaments.

Gum? Honestly?

Posting about a character nobody has seen you play, telling a pro-competitive Smash player involved in this scene for years how wrong he is, and basically telling the whole wide world of SmashBoards "You're all dumb and I'm right" probably wasn't the best way to present your points.

Samus has been nerfed considerably, and illogically. While you can present the point that she is by no means terrible, please stop acting like you're 16 with the half-***** "Well I know cause it's true" circular logic.

Moving on.

I would like to second that earlier posts' mention of Jigglypuff, Samus, and Peach all being nerfed for no reason illogical and add a "In the ***" to "**** you and your balance, Sakurai."

Huh? All the arguments that i have presented have been perfectly logical. Thats one. Secondly, nobody has seen me play Samus? I have a thread with vids up right now with my Samus matches, so what are you talking about? Third, I never said anyone was dumb. My only point has been and still is that, though she got the lowered ability to KO at early % nerf, she is still very viable and can be competetive. Its just that everyone is making her seem worse than she is, which in turn is getting more people to think the same, without even sticking with her and seeing what is there to be had. Fourth, because he is pro means he is the all knowing? I doubt it. Many of us have been competetive for the same amount of time, just not with the publicity, so it is very possible to have an equal amount of knowledge about the subject of smash. Its like this, People are saying "no Samus sucks because of A, B, and C." However, from experience I know it to be different simply because I have constantly been trying to find ways around her so-called disadvantages, with much success. Is she very different? Most definitely. Is that the same as bad? Not at all. I fail to see how that is circular logic.

Once again though, I digress. Im not really worried about all the nonsense at this point.

Gum, nobody is trying to make you quit Samus. if you want to keep playing her, that's great, honestly...but stop telling us that we know nothing about how she plays because we do. I'm not saying we've all mastered her, but I can confidently state that I personally have a better understanding of the new Sammy than your average smasher, not to mention numerous Sammy mains themselves (if I may be so modest)

the funny thing is that I would probably be over all of her new-found deficiencies if it weren't for the people on here constantly saying that she "just plays differently". seriously, what the h*ll does that mean?...if you're refering to the fact that almost half of her options have been stripped away, then you're d*mn right she plays "differently". like getting a tooth pulled "just feels different" than getting a bl*w j*b

she's not quite as fun to play anymore and scoring K.O.'s with her is difficult in contrast to the other characters (and this is glaringly obvious, so please don't argue)...but crazy as it sounds, I've accepted her the way she is nonetheless. it's just annoying to hear people try to convince me that I'm somehow totally blind to this great secret that makes Sammy just as good as she was before

And if not even that. I was just playing a Ganon tonight and i was easily able to KO him at about 130%, other times he went up to about 170-200%. But out of almost ten battles i would say i KOed him more than half of the time at 150% or lower.

What experience do you have on the matter? I'm just curious. You keep speaking about all this experience you have to back up your points.

Like when you said:
I would address all the points you brought up, but in the interest of time I'll just say this. I for one, am not an inexperienced player, and fyi I play a LOT of really good players who have been competetive for years upon years. None of the things I am saying goes without evidence. .
Experience vs whom, where, how, when?

Well, In Virginia there is Tope, Chu, Chillin, Savedge, G-Reg, Doll, Geos, Toasty, Azen and a bunch of other guys that Iv'e been playing with since melee. All these guys are amazing. A fine exampe would be the Jubilee in North Carolina last summer where there was like 80+ people from the east coast at Karn's house for the whole weekend. That was a great experience where pretty much everyone was good (thanks El Cancel for all the help). In fact, I dont know if you heard about the Red Marth thing that Chillin posted a while ago, but the Jubilee is where that happened.

To everyone though, I am not trying to be an ***, and Im not trying to be elitist or anything. Just understand where Im coming from. Why post about Samus' negatives without including ways to compensate and make her work for you anyway? By doing that you are demoralizing all the Samus players out there. Believe me, I ALMOST quit her as my main up until I decided to just give it another shot and see how it went. Just work with the moves and see what you come up with. my argument is that things are different, not bad. If you say " oh noes her sex kick is terrible now," is it not fair to respond with "well it has less knock back sure, but it still has the priority, speed, duration, and range to interrupt combos, gimp recovery, and chain other moves together." simply put, her moves may have different applications now, so why say she is bad. she would be broken as hell if she could ko at 80% on top of all her other good points. You can literally wail on someone for 10 seconds straight with samus and have them at 80%, but then you KO them immediately on top of that? Everyone would complain about that. i'd say we have a pretty solid character to work with. i apologize to anyone whom i have offended.

The way I see it...

It doesn't matter ANYMORE if samus is nerfed or buffed. If she's your main you stick with her and try to improve your playstyle and quit complaining. It won't bring back the old samus. If you hate the new samus and have more degrading comments, I can think of several places in which you could shove them into first. These pointless arguments aren't helping samus get ANY better.

kongfucius says:

It's too late to complain, you fools...move on. What we need are upgrades...:dizzy:

WORD.

that being said, I am still playing her from time to time even though I've unofficially dropped her as my main. it's funny; despite the fact that she can't do half of what she could before, I still sort of feel at home when I pick her (probably the result of picking her nontstop for years)

haha I recall Hugs saying something like "I'm married to the b*tch and I couln't quit her now if I wanted". I'm seriously in the same boat
I know exactly what you mean; I'm not as good with her as I was before, but I always feel most comfortable with her. Plus, after maining her all through Melee and a little bit in SSB64, I couldn't abandon her now. Even better, people underestimate her, and it's always fun to beat people using characters they're sure won't last a minute in a match.

Also, your sig officially wins, purely for having the Casino Night from Sonic 2 for the background. (I'm not obsessed with retro Sonic or anything...)

I kinda agree she is a bit worse than the melee samus, but I still think she can be used well enough to do some damage at tournaments.

I'm not a fan of the nerfed nair, but her air game still seems good compared to the other characters in the game. It feels much easier to chain her moves for combos since the fair/uair have low lag and small hitbox. It doesn't feel like the lack of long hit stun effected her air game more than others. I could be off on this, and I'm sure people can easily airdodge out still....

The change to smash missiles really affected my Samus a lot. It's been much more difficult to use these new low hitback ones effectively.

The small amount of decent KO moves is by far my biggest concern. If people still decide to main her I don't think it's going to be some giant leap for them to win with her in brawl. We'll just have to see how she develops since the game is still new.
