Why is the MBR dead now that the scene is more alive than ever?

There is a need for it. Like seen with EVO it would be good to have an official updated ruleset (mr. Wizzard asked for something like that). People also want Tier lists and all the stuff.

There should be also somebody who is really active and motivated to do something in Charge of it.

We don't need an MBR. Rulesets should be up to the TO and the tier list can be opened to the public

I am in agreement with Sveet. Not much need for any kind of private discussion anymore, and people more or less know who they can trust and like.

we've pretty much outgrown the need for it. the lack of community transparency creates its own problems anyway.

Even without it there's still that core group that runs everything (the melluminati, if it pleases you), that everyone trusts, and that get the job done and help the community. Without the backroom, the community is just as organized and more transparent. Seems like a good thing to me :)

I wouldn't mind some sort of "verified" tag. No private forums necessary; just something to make it clear who is knowledgeable. To people already in the community, it is really easy to tell the difference. Newer players tend to listen to everyone "equally" and have basically no chance of sorting legit info from bull****. This also gives a subconscious motivation to "be good and maybe you'll get in", which would increase the quality of posts marginally.

i think you're exactly right about there being no need for the MBR, but the "verified tag" is a bad idea. i don't trust anyone to be an impartial judge of who is knowledgeable about melee and who isn't. the only way you could do this fairly would be some kind of "exam" about advanced melee, but that would probably be abused. even relatively meaningless metrics like post count and join date would be better indicators than a "verified tag", because at least they show that you're somewhat devoted to the game.

The idea is sound, though I will agree that the implementation would necessarily have flaws. I have an idea on how to work this, but im not very interested in making it happen.

I disbanded the MBR because the MioM group has the potential to be far more effective and engaging to the community while remaining mostly transparent. Between Reddit, MioM, and the various other fb groups out there, the smashboards/forum model has become outdated and inefficient. If we had a solid site like SRK, it might be different, but its no secret that site activity for melee is in the dumps.

Tbh, I even heard most of the best players on SRK barely even use that site anymore. I see most of the fgc players share tech and info via twitter or twitch.

Smashboards does still have its uses though. There is mountains of information scattered throughout this board as well as all of the character specific boards. It would be nice to compile all of that info into one database, but that would be a massive undertaking.
