Beer guzzling patrons following golfers i've never heard of to see them swing a stick at a ball.

Yes, same could be said for other sports, but you can write your own blog about that.

Well, I'm sure if he asked to be in said club, he would be very warmly greeted.

I find golf to be very boring to play, but I suppose there is a lot of things about it that are pretty cool. I'm thinking of golf carts, being outside, hitting balls hundreds of yards away, etc. Watching it is one of the most intriguing things ever, I swear. The voice of the commentators is just...magical. I love it.

I'm sure tourney's are amusing - bunch of pimply teens without girlfriends staring at a screen like zombies while mashing controllers and taunting each other over who can hit buttons the fastest.

Is this an accurate description of tourneys? Yes, but it's highly skewed, from a very narrow point of view, and only comments on a few members - it speaks nothing of the majority of participants - just as your description of golf is

Don't knock it 'til you've tried it; the game is deep, a hell of a lot of fun, and infinitely challenging; no one's ever mastered it. Though Tiger's come close, even a rookie can rise up if he's got the skill and mind to do it.

You can walk if you want, and the whole thing isn't riding a gold cart. You can't just drive up to the ball and park, then get out and swing...you walk to your ball after driving on the designated gold cart areas. And yes, I'm pretty sure the strength of the swing matters.

I suppose the real thing that counts in golf is thinking though, you can't just start hacking away at the ball like a mad-man.

There's actually not a lot of strength involved in hitting the ball. If you play you know that, with a slight exception for driving, you really just let the club come down. It's more about the flow of the swing than the force.

I <3 golf, but that's probably because the fancy guys gave me free clubs.

I think a sport has a generic unit of scoring whereas a competition isn't always based on skill and is determined by an arbitrary score from a judge.

I can't tell if you were being funny or not, but that made me LOL. Listening to golf commentators irritates the heck out of me. Well watching golf in general irritates me. And they put the rest of my family to sleep lol.
