By browsing the internet a lot, I can see that anything that is really popular is what most people on the internet hate. Most don't even hate these things for a good reason, they just don't like it because these things are very popular.

Seriously, I can name quite a few things that people dislike just because a lot of people like them.

-Invader Zim
-Foamy the Squirrel (I hate him too, but for a good reason)
-MySpace
-iPods (WTF?!)
-Naruto (I hate it too, but for a better reason)
-Kingdom Hearts
-Final Fantasy

There are more that I can't think of right now. Add to the list if you want.

The fact remains that people are being really ignorant about popular things. I'm not saying you have to like it. I'm just inquiring: Why the heck do people want to be so different?

Seriously, not long from now, people are probably gonna hate Super Smash and other great video games because of their popularity! :scared:

What are you talking about?

People don't hate ipods or myspace! If everyone hates them so much (vecause of popularity), then why are they popular? I think you made this thread just to make a thread, if you know what I mean.
I didn't say everybody hates them.

Most people who don't really know about Gaia or Smash World Forums or other forums really like these things. However, people on most online forums know that things like iPods or MySpace have high popularity, so they stay away from it.

I personally tend to be wary of anything popular because I have a very low opinion of the general populace. But if somethings good, I won't deny that and dislike it just because it is popular (Case in point, Naruto, I was wary of it until I actually started checking it out, and while far from anything great, I at least found it to be entertaining).

I have never seen anyone say "The ipod sucks cause everyone likes it, so I am going to throw away the convemience of it just because other people like it".

If there is a life saving device that cures any illness, everyone would buy it. "Oh no, everyone has that, so I hate it".

What you're saying makes no sense. People don't stay away from good, popular things. They are popular for a reason, because THEY ARE GOOD!

I think people just want to thrive on their individuality, or they may just not be partial to something just because they, well, don't like it.

People pay for the name as well. Seriously, an iPod of the same memory and capability may be at least $50 more then something like a Samsa just because it is an iPod. It is the most publicized choice, thus people think if you aren't in the circle of the fad, you aren't accepted in that circle. Otherwise known as 'different.'

Also, I don't know anyone who likes Invader Zim other then Hot Topic cashiers...

While there has always been a group of "non-conformists" who simply don't like things because other people like them, you really can't say that the majority of the people who dislike things other people like are in that category. In fact, there are great reasons to dislike the things you mentioned.

-Invader Zim
-Foamy the Squirrel (I hate him too, but for a good reason)
-MySpace
-iPods (WTF?!)
-Naruto (I hate it too, but for a better reason)
-Kingdom Hearts
-Final Fantasy
Invader Zim is a different sort of comedy -- one based around ridiculously random events and an awkwardly evil main character. It was geared directly to the sugar-hyped attention deficient youth, and as such, a lot of people think its just plain stupid.

A lot of people don't like myspace because of the way it portrays our obvious cultural shortcomings, especially the sexually charged attitude of today's youth.

Some people don't "like" iPods because there are cheaper alternatives, and a lot of people don't like Naruto simply because they don't like anime to begin with.

Final Fantasy games have been extremely successful RPGs, and many people believe that they are overrated. A lot of people (myself included) think that there are even better RPGs that are overshadowed by Square-Enix's success in America, and are quite sick of the non-sensical turn that most Final Fantasy games take near the end of the game (
7: memories are altered, main character is an emo clone; 8: don't you go travel through time to stop the heroine from being executed as a witch?; 9: world... ends? bad guy is some how related to Zidane?
).

There are a bunch of reasons to not like the things you mentioned. I think you're overreacting... and why should you care if people like or dislike things? Most people aren't being "ignorant of things"; in fact, I would say that you are being ignorant "of things" by making the blanket statement that people don't like things just to be different.

People stop being different just for the sake of being different once you get out of high school. Or at least they should (lol).

I detest iPod because it's a piece of **** by Apple. A. I like being able to change the battery with my Creative Labs MP3 player. B. I like having over 7 times the space of an iPod Nano which, when I bought mine cost the same.

That is true. When I was in 6th and 7th grade, I was all like "I am gonna be different and try to change how people always wear abercrombie and popular kids and todays music and (you get the picture)". So now that I'm in 8th grade, I've come to the conclusion that it doesn't matter. There's no way you can change people or their habbits.

Well, I only have experience with one thing on that list: the iPod.

If you ask me, iPods are overpriced and not even that feature-full. The only thing that sets them apart from other players, to me, is the "cool factor". But I don't want to pay twice as much for the "cool factor", so I go with Creative or Samsung. The Zen and Sanso, if you ask me, are every bit as good as the iPod, and much less expensive.

So, you could say that I hate the iPod, even though most people like it, and that I'm being different. But I don't hate it because other people like it; I hate it because I just don't think it's a good product.

And, I guess it does annoy me that people just blindly buy the iPod because it's Apple and it's cool.

I never watched any of those things, I don't own any of those, and I've never played any of those games..

But!

That's just coincidence.

If I like something, I like it, if I don't like something, I don't. It doesn't really bother me what it is, why hate something just to be different..?

I like Invader Zim, Naruto, Final Fantasy and Foamy the Squirrel. I don't care about MySpace, iPods or Kingdom Hearts (haven't played it yet).

Everyone wants to be special. It reminds me of the "you got served" episode of South Park. The goths were all goths because they didn't want to conform.

South Park seems to have the answer for everything.

Actually I think you got backwards. People stop conforming once they leave high school. Or at least, that's what I saw.

I never wear jeans because I find them uncomfortable, and because every single mother ****er on the planet feels the need to wear the almighty denim blue pants for some reason..seriously, sometimes it looks to me as if people are being forced to wear them. :p

As for being different.. the "cool thing to hate" always unites people in at least one way, which is why it occurs.. I hated Naruto like everyone else before I even read it..but that quickly changed.

Same. I was one of those people that was like " Ohh why the hell does everyone like this show called Naruto". Lucky me, I just decided to watch a random episode, which happened to be Gaara Vs Lee fight. I was instantly in love with the show.

But back on the subject, People want to be different I guess just for attention, love, friends. They want to feel like they are special and original.

Wow. Just wow. "I hate this because everyone likes this!" That is being not a conformist, but if you hate it because everyone else hates it then well you are rEEtardedc and being a conformist in a way you don't think you are being one.

Goth kids are the best example of this topic. Dressing in black, listening to depressing music, and **** doesn't make you goth - it makes you a moron. Plus, I never was a goth; I just thought Satan was cool.

On the blue planet next to the sun, can't miss it!
1,-Invader Zim
2.-Foamy the Squirrel (I hate him too, but for a good reason)
3.-MySpace
4.-iPods (WTF?!)
5.-Naruto (I hate it too, but for a better reason)
6.-Kingdom Hearts
7-Final Fantasy
:

1. I couldn't understand why people would Hate Zim.
2. Foamy makes a lot of racist and lude comments.
3. It's time consuming,a nd consumes people's daily life
4. It isn't so much as the machine itself people hate, I think it's just avid users of it they hate, you know the people that use all the memory on it with music they never listen to.
5. Two words BELIEVE IT! I know they canned that as his catchphrase very early, but regardless of that, it gave people reason to hate it.
6. I couldn't see why...
7 It's just it's just an too awkward of a cross between sci fi and old timey fantasy..

What a lot of the "non-conformists" don't realize is that by just hating something because it's popular (My Chemical Romance, Avenged Sevenfold, etc.) without ever knowing about ti beforehand is that they are all conforming to non-conformity. Yeah, it exists. (Personally, I hate My Chemical Romance and Avenged sevenfold, but that's because they hold no musical value whatsoever except for A7X referencing "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" in one of their albums, even then the song sucked ***.)

Even though I hate people who hate something because it's popular, I hate people who jump the bandwagon even more, especially when they stupidly bash on non-popular stuff. I swear to God, there was this kid saying that ****ing The Killers where better electronic than Kraftwerk (whom I'm 99.9% sure hew doesn't know, because when I mentioned them, he looked confused and said "who?") because their songs where played on the radio.

How do you meet people? How do you make friends? You don't inherently know all of your friends via instinct when you're born. You socialize with people you don't know, and that is how you increase your social circle. That statement was silly as hell.

Hmmmmmmmm, where do I start? Oh yeah.

Invader Zim is mediocre at best, and simply became popular due to the rise of "dark" culture here. These include goths, emos, and punks. Really, I originally thought the show was okay, but the fans were what made me hate it. I swear nearly every emo or goth has GIR or Zim on their backpack or pants. Not to mention the fanboys/girls are even worse. I knew a girl who actually thought the Tallest Ones were telepathically communicating with her, and told her to inflict pain and suffering on as many people as possible because they told her she was of Irken blood which thus made her superior to everyone else. Guess who was one of the people she tried to inflict pain on?

Foamy the Squirrel seems to cater to the same crowd as Invade Zim, and seems to have the same style as well. Also, the cartoon reflects much of the angst and whining that the younger kids seem to be into (mostly emos are into whining about stuff they should not be whining about).

Myspace is the attention-***** capital of the internet. Nuff said. Seriously, if you ever need evidence not to let the computer raise your children, this is it. Also, another emo hang-out. I know people who simply go to myspce because that is where all the "easy" girls are.

People dislike/hate IPods because they are generally over-priced and come out with a new model every six months. Also, some models have questionable quality (like the recently released i-phone).

People dislike Kingdom Hearts for a variety of reasons. One is that some people don't like the Disney themes. Another is that people don't like the emo characters and story, and feel that the gameplay is very repetitive. Also, many people see it as the beginning of the new Square, you know the Square that inserts emo characters into everything, puts graphics before gameplay, and tries to shove Final Fantasy into everything.

People dislike Final Fantasy because of all the milking that is going on with the series. Seriously, there will probably be thirteen more games with Final Fantasy in the title before Final Fantasy XIII is released.

Also, I don't like it how emos and goths say the are non-conformists, when they are becoming a pretty much mainstream culture. These "non-conformists" started to become the new conformists when they become popular. Go to your local high school to see what I mean.

Well, I have a lot of work to be do, so I cannot divulge further into my criticism of popular culture today. I hope this answer helps.

I don't know about you, but that's totally how I made friends.

Lol, I don't use Myspace anymore, and don't care much for it(getting random requests from guys gets old), but one of my current friends found me through there. It was funny, because one day we were talking about DigiPen, and I was saying how my brother was going there, but ultimately decided that it wasn't what he wanted to do. My friend replied saying his brother's friend was going there, but dropped out because he "didn't want to stare at a computer screen all day." I was like, wtf, that's what my brother always says, and it turns out that this kid was brothers with one of my brother's good friends.

Um, hope that story wasn't too confusing.

Invade Zim is an awesome show that I didn't realize anyone disliked...

Foamy the Squirrel is funny but I haven't seen that in hell a long time anyway

MySpace just sucks...

iPods suck because they break easily and are too expensive for what you get

Naruto was cool until they turned it into a Kiddy-Piece of crap series, I still like the Manga though

Kingdom Hearts has good art

Final Fantasy has some good games, but a lot of overrated games as well that fans cling to death to

People say Invader Zim is popular when I'm pretty sure the airing of it on Nick ended many many years ago and was also short lived.

Naruto is still good it just went on too long. I know alot of people can watch all the Shippuden episodes to date and say the show turned sucky but that's cause they just got irritated of the show overall cause if you give Shippuden a chance it's just as good as Naruto with a more serious side to it.

I used to enjoy Naruto, but it's just getting stretched out now. In my opinion, the best animes have a definite end. I still can't help but check up on what I've missed after a month or two, though(I read the translated manga).

And I can totally understand hating the American dubbed version of Naruto.
