I always read the manuals, just because the layout or text might be amusing, like with Katamari Damacy.

As for little posts: I think that when he puts up posts like “Tip: It’s a good idea not to die!” he kinda knows he’s teasing us, just to make the big announcements even bigger. Plus the whole nintendo mantra is trying to keep the longtime fans happy while at the same time attracting new gamers.
