What does one do when punched in the gut, off the edge of a bridge by a giant fire-breathing turtle when all you have to help you is a gun? Todays update answers that age old question!

Step 1. Use your Up Special to grab onto the stage.

Step 2. Retract it and rise to the top.

This ability is very similar to what Link, Young Link and Normal Samus could do in melee by air-dodging, then pressing attack, except their grapples were only horizontal, so if you were too far down, there’s still no recovering for you. However, they also were able to then recover again afterwards by using their up-special.

It wouldn’t be wrong to assume that Link and Samus can perform these abilkities again with Sakurai saying “And it’s not exclusive to Zero Suit Samus… Other characters can do it, too!” Though wether that means any unnanounced characters can do it too….

Yoshi [with his tongue.. though it wouldnt fit in with Yoshi’s capabilities from his original games]
Snake? [I think he’ll have his infamous normal grab though.. so he can snap ppl’s necks *nods*
Scorpion “Com’ere!”

I didn’t realize Zero-Suit’s plasma whip was a grab. I thought it would be like Sheik’s B+&gt;. Maybe it still is, but she uses it differently then.

Well they said that its her up special so it isn’t necessarily used as her grab too.
What im wondering is what happens when you use it from standing? Does she still whip above her? can we aim it at all? And what happens when you hit a character with it? It would suck if it just did a bit of damage.
What’d be awesome would be her grabbing a character and pulling it to her. Imagine if she could even do that as she’s falling, she could grab bowser and bring him right to the bottom of the screen! Catchhim unawares and hopefully he’ll fall first, and even if he’s ready, with his recovery move and weight he’d have a lot of trouble getting back.

Sakurai never said it was her up b move, he only said her special move (much left unsaid). This could be her grab, and sakurai could have upped link’s and samus’s grapple to do the same. this update has much left unsayed and as end result tells us very little besides these type grapples are back and zamus can do it.

Remember, different control styles means he can’t always say they’re done with B. The other characters that have special moves don’t say “Down B Special Move”.

The updates are not lame. Not even the “You must recover!” one. It was meant to inform people new to Smash, most new players I play against fall off the stage without knowing they can come back.

for my comment about spiking Zaumus….forget the “while she’s relesing the whip” part. because if you look at the pic where Zaumus has her whip fully extended, you’ll see her hair blowing upward therefore, she is still moving while she releses the whip. I dont know about you guys but i would rather not take my chances spiking a moving target unless it was that target’s last stock and i had two stock left.

Well I don’t say you get hooked on by looking at whatever’s on the front page. An inquisitive person who knows nothing of Smash would click “How To Play” first. And look, there’s what they need to know about this strange game. Techniques, Smash 101, Basic Rules, how to do combos, Smash attacks, there’s stuff for beginners. No one’s to say that when Brawl is released, someone who was playing a Smash title for the first time wouldn’t check the official site for hints.

to learn basic moves that are in the manual? Who says I’m going to the smash site to learn about brawl……..oo how to play……..oooooo recovering is important. You go to wikipedia for things like that or something else. Only a gamer goes searching through sites to learn about games, and if your a gamer than you’ve heard of smash by now. Sneaky think about these things, smashbros is a fan site, It’s like me going to the halo 3 site to learn about the game….no I go out an play the prequel.
