Hey guys,

If you guys know one thing about me, it's that I loooooooove Melee!

But what do you do when the passion dies?

You know, if you play this game for years, at some times you just get tired of it at random intervals. It doesn't tickle your fancy, it bores you, or whatever the **** and you're just apathetic.

What do you do to get it back? Any SECRET TIPZ?

Even money matches aren't getting my blood flowing anymore. :( Is this when people usually pick up a new main? That sounds fun actually.

Tofuuuuuuuu gimme my gamecube back =(

Take a break from the game?

It's like when you eat the same food you like for a long time. Eventually you'll lose interest in it but after a while you start to like it again.

I was never that good and all my friends have stopped playing but what keeps me here is all the friends I've made through the community. Maybe go to a tournament and don't enter any events and just hang out. When I do this I also get to watch more really good matches which gets "the fire" going again, after watching such good players play the game.

Cuz girls are stupid.

Anyway, take a break from the competitive scene for a bit. Find a different hobby or something. If anything, MM's don't help at all, they just make **** worse. You don't need a new main either.

After awhile, not only will you get your drive back, but you'll be a better player (execution wise and mentally). You'll also lose bad habits. I hadn't played Melee since UCLA and I played for like 10 mins yesterday night. My execution was better than ever and it felt so fresh.

how come when you tell a girl that she gets all offended
LOL

Do whatever you want. Tech skill learning is definitely fun. Maybe play A LOT of non-serious matches? I mean, being the party game that it supposedly was meant to be, it might be fun to be silly or whatever. Taking a break works since it makes you want to go back to it after a while. I wouldn't worry about it much.

Play some teams P, Don't force yourself to get better, just put yourself in situations where you have to play better and let everything be a learning exp.

BUT seriously in Smash or any fighting game you see the same scenerios over and over again and it gets lame and somewhat repetetive. Teams will help ya a lil bit I think.

I think every competetive smasher nowadays lives on the "OoooH shizz***!!!!!" from the crowds at tournaments in high pressure matches. Remember you could be reason the crowd does that.

Cliche time: Win the crowd and you'll win your freedom.

Best part of a tournament is the Denny's(Insert toilet clogging diner) after where people talk about how you *****.

**** it's been awhile :/ I feel so old now. Someone grease my wheels.

It's to do with neurological influence; your neurons are no longer excited since you are no longer in need of to conceptualize. Why? Because the redundancy of late night smashing to sleeping afterwards strengthens betters the affinity of your applying of the subconscious. Constantly doing the same thing over and over again which thus your feeling for/passion for is no longer; STOP KILLING YOUR IMAGINATION THIS WAY!!!

The affect your brain/thinking has is that you no longer can conceptualize reason as to keep playing due to redundancy.

This is a coincedence expected before the matter...ha...a paradox.

i think i found my inspiration

i'm gonna main falco

makes perfect sense: i have the most fun playing him so i'll never get bored, it fits my style perfectly (campy ***), and it gives me incentive to practice my tech skillz

can't wait to start practicing

lolwut. P a falco main? It's just crazy enough to work.

But yeah when you start to get bored it helps to pick up a different char. even if only temporarily to freshen things up. I was playing Captain Falcon today and he's so fun to gimp spacies with.

There were a few periods of my life when Smash wasn't very interesting. Either because no one got better, or I had to wait too long for a rematch, or the game and the players were so predictable, I usually just dropped the game completely.

Drop it from your life, completely. Further down the line when you're weeks/months into your new hobby, and you're all depressed because it's uninteresting and predictable, you'll remember that Smash was fun. You'll play the game just a little bit, and remember every reason why you had fire for the game in the first place. Next thing you know, it'll seem like you've been reincarnated and that you're living your new life with the memories of the old.

This happened to me recently. Last semester when I was taking a full load of crazy classes, I had barely any time to play. Just out of nowhere when I had time to play with Myko (he usually asked me but I was usually busy and couldn't play), all my fire came back.

I decided to drop my Fox and Falco temporarily and pay attention to Sheik, Marth, and Falcon. It was surprisingly fun; and in the matches where I went back to Falco, I was doing less dumb bull****, and I was playing more practically (which is the reason I'm laying off my spacies for a while).

Jeeze, reading this thread makes me afraid that I'll hit this slump eventually.

Your neurons are not excited because you don't need to conceptualize? You don't need to conceptualize because late night smashing is redundant and sleeping afterwards...what?

Stop killing your imagination by doing the same thing over and over?

Dropping the game/ picking up a new character is somewhat effective in the short run; I will not discuss this.

@leon/Lunin/P

Neurons are cells that process information from an action/activity that serve to better do/deal with a situation(what I mean by conceptualize).

How Subconscious/Second Nature develops
-When you sleep after smashing, your neurons are processing/learning how to do deal with the situation better(conceptualizing). Example: Falco's pillar. You have to predict the most appropriate situation when to approach your opponent, then you have to downB, Dair. You have to predict there DI to pillar again. The way neurons allow you to deal better with a situation is by giving you a better estimate of when to execute the steps thus lessening the sensory neurons. If you are lessening your sensory neurons activity when you are Conscious that means you are lessening the fire/passion you feel when your conscious.

This amazing game won't do justice to enjoying the game as the first day you did. You must be creative/use your imagination.
