What's your MK strategy?

Yeah, I know, a ton of people put up a thread like this, and a ton of people have said "What stragety, you nub?" But I need an opinion here about using MK.

I've watched a lot of Dojo's fights and noticed something: he doesn't use any fancy tricks or tactics. He's just REALLY fast. Which I guess is all you need for MK. So for awhile now, I've been fighting without much of a strategy (except for a few combos and ledge tricks I know), and I wanted to know if there was more to MK. So...how do you generally play with Meta-Knight?

That's the great thing about MK.

There are no ATs, special tricks, or anything of the sort when it comes to Meta Knight.

All you need is good spacing, and smart playing. With a touch of your own personal playstyle.

Anyway, for me, I try to stay grounded, as MK has horrible aerial DI and Shuttle Loop can only do so much. I run around a LOT, and I'm very liberal with tornado and Shuttle Loop (SLing all over the map is fun).

Dojo's not just moving fast, he thinks fast. His real tricks are making you get hit :D

I usually play a bit defensive: I grab, wait for them to play offensive and just counter with Tornado. When they're scared of the nado, I start playing offensive (overwhelming) so I can destroy them. The only thing that stops me from winning is the lack of experience.

I find that my MK is most effective when I have a good momentum going...and a fast one, at that. MK doesn't fare very well when he's playing defensive, so keeping the matchup's momentum in your hands as often as possible is especially important with Meta Knight. Since MK is very lacking in the lag department, his effectiveness lies in your ability to maneuver such a quick character at his top speed (top speed achieved by being more tilt-happy and aerial-happy than smash-happy, but you probably already knew that).

To me, having absolute control over your gliding game is one of the key elements to keeping good momentum with MK; you can cancel your current momentum by landing with the B button, or you can swoop in with a glide attack to cover some serious ground. Fluidity of attacks is key in keeping momentum, too, as well as general comfort with the character.

Also, since MK lacks any AT's and such, spacing and smart playing is beyond imperative. MK is all about poking at the opponent to punish his/her lag and following up with lots of quick attacks.

In general, knowing what you can't do and what you can't do with MK is what separates you from your peers. While one can get reasonably good with MK in a relatively short period of time, a longer period of time is needed to know exactly which frame you can come off of attack A and into attack B as quickly and fluidly as possible.

This is the way that I see it, at least. Sorry if I covered info that you already knew.

Against all but a few opponents (G&W in particular), I think you're best off just going on an all out blitz. Get right in their face, put up a wall of aerials and tornadoes. The key here is to be aggressive but still space yourself right on the end of the sword so you can't be punished.

with MetaKnight i usually do his right and left arials because they have a great spamming ability because it has long range and short knockback also i use his down smash a lot because its extremely fast and great for KO's.

Depends on who I'm fighting. Usually, I pummel my opponents with attacks. But If I'm against DK, diddy, or yoshi, I go gay and play like a coward, because I'll get ***** if I play offensive against them.

You play defensively against Diddy? He needs his momentum even more than you do.

Thanks guys, I just wanted to see what other people's opinions were. I think the only thing I need to work on with MK is my speed.

I like to shuttle loop from the ledge a lot. I also like to use the tornado but keep it grounded. And F-tilt is my favorite attack, but going into the "D-Tilt D-Tilt D-Tilt D-Tilt D-Tilt Dash attack/grab" setup is fun too.

EDIT: And the Drill is a fun recovery tool. I like drilling an opponent straight into the ground, even if that isn't the best use for the attack.

Fair when I need to Fair, DSmash When I need to DmSmash, Tornado when I need to Tornado.
MK doesnt really need a strat. If you need to se a Move in a situation, use it. Easy as that.
