Im curious to see if there is going to be any kind of wire set up to link up 3DS's while playing. I know they can do it wirelessly but I would really dig a lag free wired connection between two consoles! Also if the 3DS gets a tournament scene, imagine how easy bringing set ups would be. Everyone could just bring their 3DS. The only problem would be with streaming tournaments, if someone is use to the way their 3DS feels I don't think for grand finals they would want to change to a 3DS their not use to with a capture card on it....

3ds will have inferior controls/graphics/gameplay (i guarantee there will be frame rate issues) and online+multiplayer. There is ZERO reason why one would get the 3ds version unless they do not have money to buy a wiiu/ssb4 for wiiu.

Or maybe some players just don't have the time to play on a main console due to a busy life and find the concept of playing Smash on the go very exciting. Believe it or not, some of us are excited for the 3DS version. You shouldn't generalize for everyone.

You're severely underestimating the 3DS. Smash 3DS isn't a port, it's its own game with its own character models and stages, and I really doubt the gameplay mechanics will be any different on the 3DS.

The reason why someone would want to get the 3DS version is because it's portable and supposedly the stages and features will be different, and to get the WIi U version you'd have to get a Wii U.

This would be amazing yes for setups, but yes I also see the issues of the streamed matches on an unfamiliar console. Worse comes to worse, hope for a good spectator mode if there is no way to connect via cable (which I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't happen even if it'd be cool) and it'd still be an easy fix.

Well, other then everyone else already responding, I think this thread itself shows many advantages for the game. BOTH have pros and cons, why come here specifically to say "3DS will suck" to the people who are going to be buying and trying it? We're already convinced we want to do something with it, and things like this just hurt a community on both sides. Why do that?

this shouldn't be a problem for singles, as you can just have the recording 3ds join the battle and die immediately like people do on wifi

Local wired play but the 3DS has been completely lagless for everyting I've tried and I guess they could do a spectator mode, but yeah wires sound like they could prevent a tournament set-up nightmare.

These two seem like the best choices, someone with the capture card could spectate, or die instantly depending on what we can use.

Now that I think about it, I think it would be easier to hold tournaments for a 3DS than for a Wii U. Mainly because everyone has their own controls and settings for how they want it. We wouldn't have to wait for people to input their settings on how the control works. But what I hope the most is that one day, Smash Bros will only be on one platform (I don't care whether it is on a handheld or home console), so there wouldn't be arguements on which is better.

It kinda already happened with ever installment before it.

Haha I completely forgot about that, but I just don't like how two separate Smashes are causing a lot of arguments.

Yes, let's have less games so people can stop having different opinions!

THANK YOU for agreeing with me. We need to have less opinions in this world. But in all seriousness, have you seen how many arguments have been brought up between the two?

Oh come on, he raises a point. Melee Brawl was nasty enough, and there is the possibility this could be similar.

And would anyone be better off if either of them never existed? If you don't like listening to people argue, you should get off the internet and I don't know, play the games you keep arguing about?

Let's get rid of Pepsi so people can stop arguing about soda, and while we're at it get rid of every game console except one of them so we can stop having console wars! That's so much better right?

Dude, you're getting a little hostile here. I think we'd just enjoy people to get along a little better so we can be a united community. I don't want neither game to exist, but it'd be great if every other thread still wasn't arguing about it in some way this many years down the road.

Sounds great to me, but what about people like you? I was just stating my opinion when you turned it into an argument about how my opinion would cause less opinions which is a bad thing. so far, look what my OPINION has caused.

EDIT: okay, sorry guys. I think we sorta got off topic here.

i agree with jackpot's point, 3ds doesnt have remote play like the vita, so i think its great that it gets version of games primarily built for a console, so its more accessible. with each installment we always want to grow the community and bring in more people

what the 3ds lacks in power, it makes up for in convenience. it could have a really booming tournament scene because of that.

At least give an argument that looks legitimate enough to be plausible. Your first two reasons don't even apply to the game itself, but apply to system differences. It's trivial to try and deride a handheld game for not having as good of controls or graphics as a console of the same generation because the console is by default going to have the better graphics every time. I mean, under your logic why is anyone even playing a handheld version of any game? They're two different markets completely. Just like Men's and Women's tennis, the latter shouldn't be compared to the Men's game because of predefined limitations of the two sexes.

As for gameplay, how do you know there will be framerate issues? It's a game specifically made for 3DS. It's not a port like Donkey Kong Country Returns was. It's going to be built specifically for the 3DS.

I really agree with you about the tournament scene. It's not necessarily going to have the most competitive tournaments or be a front runner at any big tournament, but it will make tournaments more accessible and viable for the average player, the guy that can't travel much, or the person who doesn't have a scene or friends who play smash near him.

OK now all I can say is this will give the 3DS a nice competitive scene too it :D I can see more people buying the 3DS version than the Wii U but meh it's what I think. Also still kind of don't get the Swiss thing still atm Dx but I will soon get it xD and for the streaming part would it be on stuff like Youtube or Twitch just saying.

So the hype in the 3DS scene will exist because of me. And I don't even have a 3DS. That's how awesome I am.

In all seriousness though, I think the 3DS scene will take off. It's a new kind of idea and play style out on the field. I've been wanting to get a 3DS for a while, so I'm hoping I have one before this comes out for realsies. I think it'll survive on it's own because of its uniqueness.

Have you guys forgot? The Wii U has wwaayy better graphics, but the 3DS has actual 3D. I'd rather have a comic book style pop out game than a game with realistic overalls (mario is always my example ). Also (this is a personal thing), during the day time, my family is all loud and I can't hear the T.V., but at night time, everyone is asleep and I can barely turn it up and listen I am right next to the T.V.. So having a 3DS smash where I can listen to my weak enemies begging for mercy instead of not hearing their pain on a T.V. is a lot better. Plus, my T.V. doesn't have a headphone jack like some other ones.

LOL I'd agree with you I'd rather have a Comic book pop-out style :D and I have the same thing in the Day time there's too much noise in my house but with 3DS I just put on headphone jacks and then I can listen to all of my opponents getting Star-KO'ed and begging for mercy c:

Also, I don't think the 3DS will need anything to survive. More people will get it, therefore, it will survive. Also, the 3DS is going to have its own mode, which could mean more people will get it for that reason. Justhope there will be a tournament mode, or spectator mode (like people said in other threads), so tournaments won't have to work as hard (though, there are a lot of options, so we wouldn't have to worry).

Not just because of the system itself, but I think it'll survive on it's own because it's Super Smash Bros. I mean who doesn't like it? Point said. Done and done.

And besides, Swiss Tournaments will be AMAZING! If online play is good, the convenience of an online tournament could be astronomical this time around too. 3DS has a lot going for it!

Didn't Sakurai say the 3DS will have a different mode? I am pretty sure it will be some 3DS tournament thing. The Wii U will most likely have tourney mode and the 3DS will have some different mode like that too. Well, maybe the Wii U won't have a tourney mode and it will be 3DS exlusive.

You gotta find an interview to quote on that, but I'd be interested to speculate on it for sure.

Oh I read that somewhere on smash boards, if I find the interview, I'll post it. Or, I could find it on SmashBoards, I can post that too. I can't find an interview, so maybe it doesn't exist. I'll still search for it though.

You literally threw out a generic "WiiU sux" reply?
Nice argument.
you wanted a reason, you got one ;)

on topic though, 3ds version will have a larger userbase (and I have a feeling online will be easier on that version too...)
