vastly superior mixups, taking advantage of certain mu specific things that other players dont really understand/see, frameperfect timing in situations where it truly matters (like spotdodging on the very first frame after lag)

Experience. Definitely seeing, doing, and remembering every kind of combo against HUMAN players. Once that all becomes muscle memory, mind games. Mid-level to novice players, like myself, have to focus on each technique, while high level pros are focusing reading techs, thinking ahead of the opponent, etc. At least, that's what I feel.

3) How much "experience" do you need then? Why was Mango ****** people after 8 months of play, but it took PC Chris much longer to hit his peak? And if one player only needs a few tournaments of experience to **** all over everybody, then WHY does another player need so much more? That's an infinitely more interesting question.
Natural talent. Same thing with sports. Some people are naturally gifted at a sport, while others have to work their *** off and practice 10x harder. How to "get good," differs with every person.

What Wobbles said is very true.

For example. I play an amazing spacing game. However, I am also not patient, so if I play someone who is willing to wait, I often will be the one to approach, and since I am not as good at that, I do a lot worse.

If someone is more aggressive, I am used to it and can handle that.

Part of the reason I developped this way is I never really played the top tiers much throughout the years. This meant that I was often on the receiving end of their great pressure game. Hence, I developed my game around a defensive game with little risks.

I would say lots of Mid level players could be high level players in certain situations.

Oh and another thing. For me personally, since I was so good at spacing, I never really needed to roll or spot dodge. This is actually a BAD habbit for me that I would have to break if I wanted to be a top smasher. There are certain situations in smash where rolling and spot dodging are very helpful. In fact, many people will eventually, and usually subconsciously, take advantage of the fact that they know I will not roll or dodge.

1. Believe you are just as capable as any other human when it comes to being good at the game

2. Practice and constantly work on fixing your mistakes. Learn from each loss, each missed opening, each hit you take and so on. Don't get frustrated when a mistake happens. It's just an arrow pointing towards potential improvement. Also, improve and refine the things you are already good at.

3. Just play the game and have fun. There's no secret mode of thinking that you must acquire. Pay attention to the game as you play it, and you'll notice what you need to work on, when you need to change approaches, etc.

I have a specific belief that I've acquired in my short time here. I truly believe everyone is born with the potential to be special. However, Most people spend their lives resting on their potential while very few find it in themselves to realize that potential. I believe greatness to be like an egg that is born unto all but hatches only to those who will it to hatch.

You can practice, you can study, you can play a single characters forever, you can play against the best competition, You can play in lightning melee, you take IQ tests daily, you can do crossword puzzles, you can stand on your head for minutes at a time, you can take pills, you can drink energy shots, you can stop having sex months before a tournament.....etc...etc. Some of these are obviously not going to effect your smashing but you'd be shocked at how much of this mid level players actually do in order to get better.

Ultimately it comes down to a few questions. Do you dare to be great? Do you have the will to win? Do you have the skill? Can you be bolder than those who came before you? Can be even greater than they were?

If your answers to all of the above are not yes then you cannot and will not close the gap.
