0_o so many good ideas...

Pokeball icons sound cool, I want one! :p

Regularly held tournaments themed or not sounds like a good idea but as you mentioned Umbreon inactivity might be a problem which in that case a ladder type system would work well, either way I'm for it.

I think Firus' idea of seperate threads for each generation might work a bit better. If we have them all in one it might be a bit all over the place with some poeple discussing X gen whilst other discuss Y

I don't think off-topic discussion is a HUGE problem, we generally are pretty good with it besides the occasional off-topic discussion when there aren't many sprites in the CPS (which we are cutting down on anyways). A bit of casual conversation here and there never hurt anyone.

Being a small secluded community is a blessing and a curse a the same time. One one hand with the small number of us here we all know each other and are like a big family (well thats how I see it at least :) ) and we also don't get many spammy noobish posts like the GBD for example. On the other hand it makes inactivity a fairly big problem though. The pokeball icons are probabably the best advertising, I'm not good at thinking up ideas :( .

I want a little pokeball!
No, seriously.
But, maybe... if someone had programming skills, we could make an interactive browser for the custom sprites? Just an idea. I think that'd be pretty cool.
Oh thats easy, I could do that in Flash easy peasy. Only problem is, can I run SWF files on smashboards?

I'm thinking we could do a "special" tournament every month or so. ( I really think every week is kind of pushing it)

For example, mono-type, UU, NU, 1st-3rd Gen, etc etc. Something to keep it fresh when platinum starts to die off. I dunno. I'm just thinking tournaments can keep people into the game.

Monthly tournies is probably best imo. Anything more will lead to everything falling apart. I think that a PKMN Ball, or white names is probably the best way to go, to drive some Smashers who play pokemon on the side to come here, get into the pokemon center community and drive up activity.

I would suggest making this thread a sticky- if you plan on checking this thread fairly consistantly. It is nice to have a place to make and look at suggestions without having to flip through a bunch of pokemon threads. Additionally, I would like to see a thread recognizing generic types of teams and their biggest strengths and weaknesses. That same thread concept with generics could also be used for specific pokemon roles in a battle, and counters to those generic roles.

and also fresh milk and hot cookies would be nice.

I think tourneys is def a great way to go, but its gotta be done right. Make a new subforum here for tourneys, and have only pre-approved people be able to make threads. Anyone will be able to reply.

Designate people to run tourneys. We can do them both on DS and on Shoddy. For instance I could run Shoddy tourneys and Umbreon could run DS tourneys? Have tourneys be biweekly, so each type of tourney is every month. Have a sticky post in the forum that shows a schedule for the tourneys coming up like:
3.08.09 - Shoddy Battle Tourney 01
3.22.09 - DS Wifi Tourney 01
4.5.09 - Shoddy Battle Tourney 02
4.19.09 - DS Wifi Tourney 02

When the time comes, the person who is running the tourney makes a thread for it in the tourney zone, and has the 2 weeks to finish the tourney until the next one starts. Have sign ups for like no longer than 2 days (maybe even one day since there will be a schedule ahead of time. Like if the thread goes up on a Sunday, people have until 6:00pm Monday to sign up when brackets are put up. Then people have a day or two per round, and so on.

The threads for each tourney will say the rules for that tourney (they might change a lil, maybe allow only certain tiers, etc).

Advertise for the tourneys by having people making sigs for them or other things.

We could do something cool for the winners like a custom title, maybe a little pokeball trophy icon (that would go great with their pokeball icons for being a researcher lol)
edit: i was bored, so i made an icon

that seems like a good idea. *supports*
Also, I think we should also have a bi weekly discussion thread, discussing one over used pokemon per 2 weeks on its viability in the OU tier.

it started to drop a lil in inactivity. he did good, but needs to yell at ppl more to finish their matches lol. if tourneys take too long ppl lose interest and stop doing matches or they forget.
