anyone who is a regular here, this thread is for suggestions to make the pokecenter more fun or better or whatever else you guys want. since this room is pretty much ignored by most of the moderation, I can perform whatever needs done.

I'm going to suggest to myself that we get pokeballs for the pokemon researchers, before anyone brings that up.

keep topics as much on-topic as possible.
that's one problem sometimes, but if i think of anything else I will be sure to let you know;)

That's a pretty awesome idea (even though I'm not a researcher and have no chances at it :p).

I think the pokemon center is already really awesome and has improved a lot from what it was a year ago. We just lack activity from other people and there's really no way we can BRING people here :p

well, yes and no. obvious yes, but no in that sometimes a tangent will produce something useful, and frankly I'm just not totalitarian enough to enforce smashboards rules all the time. if that's a problem, you can tell me to watch that particular thread, as well as putting in the OP that you do not want the topic to deviate.

I have no problem assigning pokemon researcher to the names I see in here daily.

I'd like to see something in the vain of "Theme Tournaments," like mono-type tourneys where players are given a specific type and must make an entire team out of it or assigned teams where players are simply given a pre-created team and must play with it.

For such a small thread, Umbreon, you do a good job moderating it. I can't say that everything runs perfectly, but nothing does these days.
We lack some sort of...appeal. Something that says "Come to the Poke Center!". However, there isn't much we can do, so I have no idea...what could be done.
I might suggest MORE moderation in terms of some of the regulars here, I could definetly name a few regulars who could do wonders for this bored in terms of clean-up.

This would be a really cool idea, like having a tournament section?

I could name about 10-15 threads that could use cleaning and or closing.

I could vouch for a tournament section, but I fear possible inactivity really fast.

link me to the threads that need work and I will look at them.

Great thread, Umbreon.

I can't really think of much that could be added to the PC other than some kind of ladder system. That way we can all see Articanus at the top of some list every time we click on it.

Joking aside, I would like a ladder thread. I'd make one, but I'm a bit busy keeping up DWYP.

As Bowser said, this is a pretty awesome idea despite the fact that I lack a lot of the competitive Pokemon knowledge to become a Researcher.

I think the pokemon center is already really awesome and has improved a lot from what it was a year ago. We just lack activity from other people and there's really no way we can BRING people here :p
I also second this. It's sort of nice on one hand, but on the other there's not always as much to talk about because there just aren't as many people.

This is actually a pretty interesting idea. I may not enter any tournaments (I think I'll probably get owned the first time I try, although I suppose I have to start somewhere), but I love a challenge and this would be a pretty interesting one.

Yeah, I agree with this as well.

I think part of the problem with inactivity is that there just aren't enough people interested in...Pokemon. I get the idea that the majority of the people on SmashBoards regard Pokemon as mostly nostalgia or whatever, and don't really care to visit the PC that much. Of course, that's highly preferable to real life where most people regard Pokemon as stupid and kiddie, but it still means inactivity. (At least in my year here, though, we've only got a handful of stupid threads from trolls who feel like insulting people who like Pokemon.)

As far as other suggestions, I don't really have any big ones. First, we need to be more consistent about The Custom Pokemon Shop. Not like, ridiculously on-topic, but not so off-topic that we go 10 pages before a mention of sprites.
Second, it'd be nice if we could keep up discussion of upcoming games. The Platinum thread is completely inactive, despite its coming in 21 days (although I know a lot of people got a hold of a Japanese copy in some way). The fifth gen thread has all but died. I suppose there's only so long you can discuss the same concepts and ideas, but it seems like we could do some more with it. Maybe something like people do with SSB4, like thinking up concepts for Pokemon, areas, plots, etc. I suppose a lot of us don't want any more Pokemon, which could cause a problem.

Generally this forum just has a few "favorite?" threads active at a time, they die, they're re-created, and the cycle continues. I just think it'd be cool if we could have some more active threads.

Agreed.

Like I said in the group thread, we lack topics. Most of them don't last in the long run which, if you look at any other board, is a huge set back for the PC.

Most threads last a couple days and then die. We need threads like the CPS, zelda thread, SSB4 discussion thread etc. where we can go and continually discuss something.

The problem is, what will we make? The platinum and 5th gen have lived most there life and while they were around we were pretty active. When they died out, we only had the CPS. So what SHOULD we do. Revive them? Make new topics?

The pokeballs thing might actually attract people, if we're thinking the same thing.

At least they'll know that this subforum exists.

I think Shoddy and things like Scizor/Salamence have stagnated the game abnormally fast, despite that they also generated almost all of the competitive hype behind the games. A double-edged sword for sure.

I was thinking of a thread completely dedicated to the CPS sprites. That way, if someone wants to see your creations, they wouldn't have to browse through several pages.
Hm, that's an interesting idea. Then we'd be able to actually stack the sprites up in some sort of order, rather than being pages and pages apart.

What do you think of this idea, Umbreon?

Hm, you have a point there.
If people are in other forums and they have a Poke Ball by their name, people will be all "Hey, they have Poke Balls in the Poke Center?! I want a Poke Ball!"

Never underestimate the power of little icons.

No, seriously.
But, maybe... if someone had programming skills, we could make an interactive browser for the custom sprites? Just an idea. I think that'd be pretty cool.

This is somewhat true. Hype for Platinum died abnormally fast competitively wise simply due to the fact that it's been readily available for such a long period of time on Shoddy. Many players probably wont take the time to work their way through platinum for something they've had for almost 5 months now.

I would say weekly tournaments, for both D/P WiFi and Shoddy. Encourages everybody to well... play Pokemon. Maybe have a hall-of-fame with rankings of the people with the most tournament points/wins?

Somebody needs to make a general game discussion thread. We seem to have a lot of really specific things, but... we never really have a thread to just talk about the Pokemon games. Of course, spam would be a problem, but since we now have active mods, we should be fine.

I think those two things would be pretty cool.

Yeah, maybe we should have a general discussion for each generation. At the moment, there's really no way for us to discuss any games except for the upcoming ones. It'd be nice if we could make a way for that.

Oh, well I was talking about an individual thread for each. Like,

First Generation Thread
Second Generation Thread
Third Generation Thread
Fourth Generation Thread

that.

That could work to but I think it's a bit scattered. A couple will eventually die after a while so then people would have to resort to bumping really old threads.

If we keep it in one thread, we can have discussions easier (no need to search all 4 threads) and keep it active.

First-Third Gen won't have any activity. Especially first and second. I get onto Netbattle for GSC on random times of the day and there is literally nobody to play with me. ADV is better, but RBY is kinda worse from my experience.

Weekly tournaments, imo, for now should only be done on one or the other; most likely WiFi since its likely that a good portion of the brawlers aren't into competitive Pokemon and are likely casually just playing it on their DSes. With Platinum coming, we can take advantage of the new "hype" from those without Shoddy and pretty much advertise this section of the board. Pink Reaper has the point that those who have played Plat Shoddy are kinda mehish, but I'm sure there's plenty of new blood around.

Good idea? Yay, nay?

That's really funny.

You do realize that most of the active people on this board like 1st/2nd gen much more than 3rd/4th? I understand why you would think those threads would be inactive... but, they wouldn't.

But yeah, I think it would be better to have an in-general Pokemon Main Game discussion thread (RBY, GSC, RSE, DPP) and a Spin-Off Thread (I think BK already made one...)

Pretty much. That would be a good idea. Start building up hype for 4th gen by having tournaments and then maybe have a major tourney for the celebration of Platinum version?

...D;

GET ON NETBATTLE GUYS! LETS PLAY PLAY PLAY. But really, I never knew that most of the folk here were into RBY/GSC. Its always DP talk here and whatnot. And netbattle being gsc-free was not helping.

And, yeah. That's the general idea. Hype Platnium, take advantage of the "hype period" to convert a few people into regulars.

>_>

I was talking about...casual type...playing...not competitive type playing. Not to say that that aspect would be excluded, but it's mostly covered in other threads, whereas the story mode of Pokemon isn't really covered here.

I don't think it's a secret that the past games in Pokemon don't really have much of a competitive scene anymore. But I replay the games from time to time, I randomly feel like discussing how awesome a game's music is, etc. There's also the fact that I may eventually actually finish my Jiggs-only run through Pearl, and may move on to do another run like that through an older game.

But yeah, I think it would be better to have an in-general Pokemon Main Game discussion thread (RBY, GSC, RSE, DPP) and a Spin-Off Thread (I think BK already made one...)
The only problem I really see with that is that discussion could get a little cluttered or it would be one generation at a time. Bowser has a good point in that the threads may have varying activity and such, but...I don't know. I'm willing to give the one thread a try if that's what everyone wants.

That's only because the general age of SWF was much younger back then. If there was a 1st gen thread, it would only be people remembering Pokemon. "I thought Charizard was the bomb back then. lol"

I've done it for so long that I can't stop. Plus it's awesome, and a lot of cool people post in red.

I still play the games. All of them. So it wouldn't just be reminiscing.

Good thing that Charmeleon isn't still a cow.
Yay.

Look at the organization of the sprites.

Since we didn't add reserve posts, and we had members join later on, it's completely scattered.

Make a new shop?
The idea has come up more than once...if you try searching the thread, you can probably find the discussions somewhere. We've discussed a new thread here in the PC, as well as moving things over to the Artwork Emporium. The former I've been borderline about at times, the latter I've been pretty much totally against every time.

While starting the shop fresh with extra posts and all would be nice, I'm a very nostalgic-ish person. So I want to keep that shop alive for as long as we're still working in a Custom Pokemon Shop here. I want to be able to look back at all of the original posts and everything, and while I can do that if it just dwindles and dies, it'll be sort of depressing to look back at a dead thread.

Plus, even if we create a new shop, who knows how long our membership will stay the way it is. We've had our current set of members for quite some time now, but if someone leaves or a new person comes in or something to that effect, then restarting the thread was kind of moot. It'll be more organized, but not entirely organized, still.

It's not very good logic, I know, but I don't really want to start the shop over. If people think it's stupid to have another thread just because I'm weird, then I'm willing to drop the idea.
