Are there any uses because I'm wondering where to put them into my game other than getting back on stage and using them for mindgames in the air.

i've heard that with some crazy specific DI they can be used for some kind of super aerial wavedash, but i've never come close to figuring it out. the guy who did it didn't get it on vid and doesn't know how he did it.

The only thing I've been able to use them for has been edge guarding. Against any character other than ROB, Pit, Snake, or MK, I can usually drop a bomb and have it detonate as they almost reach the ledge. I'm working on following that up with Dair, but the low stun time is hard to get used to.

Outside of that though, I've got nada. For the life of me I can't figure out why the creators made the bombs to only explode based on time.

I use the Bombs for recovery and mindgames from above...

Other than that...I use them on the floor to screw up speedsters...

hmmm..... I use them occasionally to slow someone down or get distance.... (besides recovery or mindgames)... but really they are one of her less useful moves... (not to say they aren't useful at all...)

Use bombs on the ground A LOT. They severly congest your opponents ground approaches and they also allow you to set for your own combos.

Hello Samus players,

Haven't played Brawl yet (yay PAL!), and I was wondering if Samus can still bomb jump like in melee (in terms of effect). Just wondering as a bunch of people here said bombs for recovery.

Bombs for recovery are used SSB64 style: drop a bomb, DI left/right, ignore the explosion.

I use bombs to "recover", as a fake airdodge (because you get good aerial control in morph ball mode), as a really slow and pathetic backwards wavedash (it's decent for spacing and discourages approaches).

Double bomb jumping is pretty useless unless you feel like going under the stage and around (you can do this on final destination actually). But now you can just lay a bomb and it gives you a boost sideways.

Bomb crouch cancels into anything buffered. If anyone wants to help me record some of my bomb techs, please PM me! I have no recording equipment but I have a few ideas for uses of bombs. I usually use bombs to set up for dtilts, fsmashes, or eating shields. They're also good to open up options to be less predictable when being edgeguarded.

Ah, ok. Brilliant. It seems like bombs are still being worked in to peoples games, that's good to know.

Thanks everyone!

Alright, after some more play against MK I have started to use bombs liberally to keep him off me. I wish they exploded on impact as well, but those suckers do about 10 damage a pop and force him to tread carefully. Very useful after all.

bombs are awesome i mostly only use them to move away set a bomb>continue moving away>charge gun

buys me some time to either build up a charge or escape.

honestly though i do think they have plenty of potential and should be mixed up with the homing/super missiles to ensure max damage (stale moves)

thats one of the reasons im reluctant to play as samus, i can tell im not utilizing her to her full potential (every second im not within range i should be spamming SOMETHING at them/dropping bombs to create issues when they come after me)

Many may find this obvious or remember Melee's equivalent, but for the rest of you: I've been toying with an idea to actually take advantage of the fact bombs don't go off on impact.

The bomb doesn't send your opponent anywhere, and in fact can be used to hold them in place. Drop bomb -> attack -> bomb 'spodes and holds them there -> another attack. Adds some that you normally wouldn't be able to get.

For example: If your opponent is still ~20% shy of dtilt-KO-range you could try to drop a bomb, fsmash, bomb goes off and holds them in place, dtilt.

If you time it right the bomb nicely fills the cooldown time of the first attack, making these three attacks in rapid succession difficult to sidestep. If they chose to stay in their shield it'll pretty much tear the shield apart.

There's lotsa possibilities and options. Just make sure your first attack doesn't have too much of a cooldown period or your second attack have too much warmup time.

This of course is assuming that your opponent (A) doesn't straight up punish you in the rather large window where you're vulnerable after hitting down-b and (B) they don't just back away. There's just too much time where you can't do anything and the bomb won't cover for you (yet) - I get smashed or tilted, or if I'm lucky my opponent just backs off throwing stuff. I can't get bombs to work on the stage in a(n offline, lag-free) match. ):

I use em for shield pressure(i know i know, but hear me out)

If you plant one, and somebody dodges/jumps/rolls through it, shields and you hit them with a F-smash, you can push them in their shield into the bomb, at which point 2 things can happen.
they let go of their shield, getting hit by the bomb giving you a free F-smash or U-tilt. or they shield the bomb and you get another F-smash on their shield. very good shield pressure, but very situational.

Remember, almost any move can be used in some way or another at some time. it all depends on how good your mindgames are so that you can push your opponent into the situations you want.

One good thing to note about the bombs is that the hitbox on the explosion stays around, so If they power shield it, they will still get hit by the end of it.

Yuuuuuup! I have some replays of me doing this kinda stuff to a Rob who would wait to spotdodge->dsmash punish, but bombs really make things messy. :]

Sometimes I get strange people that spam dodge-rolling just to get to me. If you encounter someone like that, just start laying bombs around you--usually I hit them twice. I'll also use it in mid-air to prevent from being juggled. And, like someone mentioned above, you can keep using while moving backwards to put some space between you and your foe.

Sometimes I'll put on a show and start juggling myself, slightly moving left and right. I've had a number of people just sit there and watch me like: "0_o" lol
