They really seem to be treated as their own characters from what I've seen in Gema's stream yesterday. Have their own names (of course), their own coloured Clown Car, their own voices, and hence, probably have their own names announced at the victory screens. I just really hope they pronounce Ludwig's name properly, lol. The only similarity obviously is the move-set and that they will turn into Shadow Mario upon activating a Smash Ball.Wait, so what? The announcer announces the Koopalings' names? Do their names show up in the CSS? Do they have their own voice and sound clips? Long story sort, Are they pretty much treated as their own characters despite being Jr.'s alts? (I've heard that Alph got the treatment I've listed here, so I feel that it'd be a bit unfair for the Koopalings to not get the same treatment.)
I hadn't seen that footage (been watching Gema too) but I think it sums it up pretty good. Whatever qualms anyone has with the roster, I honestly don't think this could have been implemented in a better way. The shared moveset even makes sense for all of them - the Final Smash less so but I won't end up using that as much anyway and there would've been riots had Bowser Jr got in with no reference at all to Sunshine. They really seem to be treated as their own characters from what I've seen in Gema's stream yesterday. Here is some decent footage actually.
I'll admit, I wasn't too sure if I was too on-board with Bowser Jr.'s inclusion in Sm4sh (kept picturing a lame move-set similar to Bowser but faster and smaller), but after seeing what Sakurai has done with him in the Clown Car, and expanded his swaps as ALL of the Koopalings, I'm quite excited to see / play as him and of course, all of the Koopalings.
Yay Team Ludwig! Although I plan to give Larry and Roy a good spin, too.
From what I've seen...Iggy. I need Iggy. Or Dr. Mario. That Final Smash is legit. I love the Mario Kart callout with his Over-B. But I need my Iggy. My question now is:
1. Does the Koopa Clown Car change color when you choose Iggy?
2. Do hitboxes change to match the character being used?
Nice! I've yet to see Iggy's Jr. Clown Car, so #1 is great for me. As for Roy, he's probably red for team color purposes. And as for #2, I wonder how they're gonna deal with height and, to a lesser extent, width, differences. Like, ya know, Iggy's tall and lanky, but Roy is medium and thick, while Lemmy is just down-rightFrom what I've seen...
1. Yes, Iggy's kart is a rather lovely shade of lime green. Likewise, all the Koopalings have carts primarily based on their shell color, such as Larry being Cyan, Wendy being Pink, Lemmy being yellow, ect. The exception seems to be Roy, who is red instead of purple.
2. No, hitboxes are not changed.
According to what I saw, they are kind of scaled/seated so that they don't poke out too much differently. For example, Lemmy is really short, so he kind of holds on the railings of the kart, while Roy sort of crouches.Nice! I've yet to see Iggy's Jr. Clown Car, so #1 is great for me. Fall-speed and weight, I suppose, would be taken care of due to the Jr. Clown Car slowing all of their falls to the same pace and equalizing their weight with the propeller.
IT WAS IN FRONT OF US ALL ALONG!!!!!!!!
By the way, this was published in 2013.
I want to see a flamethrower special from the Clown Kart as a replacement for the neutral-B. I could see firing a green shell from down-B s a good alternative.So... Any word on custom specials for the Koopalings? I think the customs have tons of potential. For example, what if instead of Junior Jump (I can't read Japanese, so I'm just gonna call it what the SmashWiki calls it) for an Up-B, he used the propeller on the bottom to boost himself up. Or for an Over-B, he gained a Glider and leaped forward, dealing little damage, but being able to glide, so as to aid recovery. I'm also pretty sure I saw a Bullet Bill in place of the Cannonball during the video in which he was first leaked, but it was hard to tell. And the Down-B's possibilities for summons are borderline infinite...
Flame Thrower, you say? That's an idea I could definently get on board with. The Down-B firing a Green Shell is another great call-out to Mario Kart that I love the idea of. And, speaking of spawning a Green Shell, what if one Custom special has him spawn a Red/Green shell rather than fire it, so that he can throw it later. That could be over-powered, but it could also be unique and interesting, and balanced, of course, if done right.I want to see a flamethrower special from the Clown Kart as a replacement for the neutral-B. Seeing as Lil B/Koopalings lack decent kill moves from what I've gathered, a green shell would help them out. It wouldn't be any different from Diddy throwing Bananas. Of course, green shells have the benefit of being stomped and thrown back, which is always a nice counter-play mechanic.Flame Thrower, you say? That's an idea I could definently get on board with. Ah, yes. I forgot about the stomping on Green Shells thing. Most of the time I'm too busy trying to get out of the way XP. Also, does anyone else know where the heck the Fork attacks came from? I'm assuming its a reference to Mario & Luigi: Super Star Saga, which I unfortunately never bought, or a loose Hotel Mario one, since the Koopalings ate Mario if they caught him in an elevator.Seeing as Lil B/Koopalings lack decent kill moves from what I've gathered, a green shell would help them out. I can say it's not from Inside Story...or anything I'm accustomed to. I'm just going to go with it's Purple Monkey in a Dishwasher Humor and move on.Ah, yes. We could....but it's not extremely pertinent.Say, should we change the title of this thread to reflect the fact that ALL 7 Koopalings are (technically) playable characters in SSB4 now?
Oh okay. I'm not saying it's such a huge priority, I'd just like others to be more aware that they are playable in some capacity. We could....but it's not extremely pertinent.
I'm pretty sure word of mouth and the fact there are around 5-6 threads stating 'which Koopaling are you playing?' to which I've replied to all of them as 'Larry' that, hey, the Koopalings are playable.Oh okay. Roy was fought second in NSMBU, so I guess there's that for that reason. Personally, I don't think it warrants much complaint aside from having to cycle a couple more. Their move set is impressive, so much more so than the rumored Diddy Clone. The only thing I don't understand is the fork. As for their FS, yes it's nice that they made reference to Sunshine, but it seems so dull. None of the zaniness one would expect from the Koopalings and Bowser Jr.Hot stuff! That video right there can be summed up as sheer awesomeness. It confirmed Iggy as my main and made the game/demo a day one pick-up. The color of Iggy's Jr. Clown Car is cool, and the track played when Wendy is fighting is one of my favorites. And the Koopaling's Clown Cars having lights for eyes is a nice call-out to their role in NSMB2. Curiously, Roy's and Lemmy's Cars are red and yellow, respectively, rather then their signature colors, purple and orange, respectively. I suppose it was done in the name of variety. The only other thing that bugged me was the fact that, on the character select screen, they all rotate in birth order except for Roy and Morton, who should be switched. That irks me to no end, mostly cause the other are where they should be. That's really all I see wrong. I agree they're Final Smash appears sub-par, but it's an original one and gives credit to Bowser Jr.'s debut, plus it looks cool. I like their moveset, it's very original. I have to say my favorites are the one's where they use the Hammer Bros.' hammer, the squeaky hammer (Paper Mario: Sticker Star reference: Look at the hammer, it's the same as the sticker) pummel, and that awesome Grinder dash attack that hits multiple times. Oh, and I especially like how the Mecha Koopas pick you up and explode. Very original.
Diddy Clone? I haven't ever heard of that? Was that about the Koopalings being a clone of Diddy? And, I say this with all due respect, I believe you mean NSMBW, because Roy was fought second in that game. In NSMBU, Roy was fought third-to-last. I see your point though. However, even then, it doesn't add up. Lemmy's second oldest in birth order, but in NSMBW he is fought 3rd. But, whatever, I'll just leave it at some weird, obscure reference or an extremely minor mistake.Roy was fought second in NSMBU, so I guess there's that for that reason. Well, I feel stupid. Yeah, I meant W. Frankly, Nintendo should reconsider how they name Mario games >->. Rumor had it after the ESBR leak that Jr. was a clone of Diddy, due to his up special and some other things.Diddy Clone? I haven't ever heard of that? Frankly, the Koopalings might actually be my favorite newcomer next to Greninja. Robin used to hold that distinction, but damn it all if blue mohawk turtles aren't cooler.
EDIT: Here's a nice video with all the Koopalings(and Bowser Jr.) in action. Their final smash is a tad lame in my opinion, and their eyes look a bit off, but otherwise they look really nice.
The Koopalings do look quire amazing to play as! I have to say though, the Koopalings + Bowser Jr. and DHD are probably a few of the things which saved this roster for me.Hot stuff!
