When spiked in the water at a stage such as Pirate Ship, can you meteor smash cancel or does DI slow you down?

Can you do anything to increase the amount of damage at which DK dies when spiked in the water?

My bad if this has been addressed before...

nope, the only thing you can do is DI away from them and hope not to get continually spiked

Yeah, your character is too busy NOT DYING instead of attacking. DI's the only (limited) thing you can do underwater.
