How good can you get at Brawl in one week?
Brawl has been postponed until February 2008, and since Mario Kart is also coming out in that time frame, it is not unreasonable to expect that it gets delayed further. As such, the tournament is canceled. I apologize for the disappointment.

Crews?
Interest in crews has been increasing. Personally, I think crews should become a staple of tournaments and I would like to see their inclusion at this tournament. Give me your feedback and start forming your crews if you wish to participate!
Stages allowed:
Stages are going to be evaluated on a stage by stage basis as best as possible, but here's a guideline. During the week of play before the 8th, I would appreciate input in trying to place stages in one of these categories. If you're super bored and can't wait, try looking at the stages that are announced and think of why it should be in one of these categories. It might help us sort later.
Neutral
These stages are basic in layout with minimal interference. Any stage with a basic platform layout and some form of minor "quirk" will be neutral. (Like the new battlefield platforms can crumble, but it should still be neutral)
Counterpick
Stages that give a noticeable advantage (but not a severe advantage) to a matchup is in this category. A stage that is wacky enough to cause disruption, but not actually kill your opponent is a counterpick stage. (Think Poke Floats)
Banned
Any stage that has edges you can walk up to (like in Flat Zone) is banned. Any stage that is excessively large or in some other way encourages excessive camping / running (think Hyrule Temple) is banned. Any stage that winds up killing you more than your opponent does is banned. (Stupid Kraid) Etc...
Race to the Finish!!!
There will be an official race to unlock everything in the game in time for the tournament. It may be possible that there are some things that cannot be done in time, in which case the winner will be he who has the most unlocked characters, stages, and other options that will be relevant to multiplayer. (Other things like trophies don't count for this) We'll use the winner's data for the tournament, so this is important!
Seriously guys, this is going to be one of the best tourneys ever. There won't be any tiers yet, the playing field will be vastly leveled, and it's frickin' Brawl!
Who all's in? Oh wait, you're all in cuz it's frickin' Brawl.
See you there.

* As of right now, I am saying that we will use only GameCube controllers. I don't think this will be an issue as the vast majority of us will be doing so anyway. The reason is because with any wireless controller there are problems. Mostly for two reasons. 1) As a player, you run the very high risk of getting interference, which is bad. 2) The risk of cheating is raised significantly. But if you have any problems with this, let me hear it.
PS: Thx to Wobbles for the tourney name.
