This is a public poll for Smash 64 players.
Some people want the Backroom and some don't because they argue that the community is small enough as it is and a Backroom would divide it even further.

The video sub-forum is something thought of today. I think it's a good idea because it doesn't divide the community and it lets people post their combo/cool glitch etc videos. They can receive input on their playing and so on.

Any admin reading this please consider this.

If people stop being lazy and actually click on the subforums, a video forum would be good.

As for the backroom, I am kind-of in the middle. I do agree to it, but the only threads that are in here should be stuff that require high level players only... like matchup charts, tier list discussion, and ruleset discussion (if it were ever needed). Things like new advanced techniques, videos, and other random stuff like that should be placed in the regular forum (or video forum). Having more forums (and having 64 as a separate forum instead of under 'gaming') will make it more easily seen, and make it seem more inportant than just another forum.

So yes to both, but Backroom should be used wisely.

Option number 5 has "and more" in the answer. So what you want Blue Yoshi is viable. A backroom, video-forum AND getting our own category in the smashboards home page which actually sounds pretty nice :lick:

I think the way SWF does backrooms is pretty dumb. Have a place where only established members can post about high-level strategy is fine, but there's no reason it shouldn't be VIEWABLE to the public. If there were a backroom that would be viewable by anyone but post-able by few, then I would have no problem with it.

Except this community is small enough as is.

Video sub-forum is dumb, but there should be a stickied thread for all videos.

For now I'm going to side with 'no' on the BRoom.
My original idea was just a simple plain old social group. I doubt anyone would care for that though.

Definite yes on the Vid sub.

lol sorry i was pacing because it actually makes you POST the thread before you get to make the actual poll. People usally start posting without even the poll being there.

Also can we all agree on actually getting out of this Gaming forum category?
It'd be cool if we had our own category on the main page like Melee or Brawl

Character guides quickly sink away into the crap of smash 64 forum

if we have 12 forums NOOBS can at least look at the guides to help them get better

The guides should be linked in the sticky.

Anyway a video forum would be cool, but only if people actually start to post more videos. It seems like people rarely record and post videos any more.

Video Sub-Forum would be the best idea for sure, the same with a backroom for 64.

Other than that, I don't know how big this community is nowadays but a character specific forum might be pushing it a little too much. I'm not too sure though.

I am neutral about a character specific forum. Having an individual forum will let new people post character specific questions in those forums. It will definitely attract more people, as they can find the info for their specific character easier. Some may never be used, but look at the low tiers of melee. Some character forums at times don't have posts in over 10 days, but at other times have over 20 posts in a day. Look at the competitive forums for 64. For the most part, there's never any posts. In the past few weeks with the tournaments, there have been many posts there.

I think if we have separate forums, it will attract more people, as it's more than just 'that game that no one plays anymore'. Plus, I'll respond to posts in every forum 64 related.

I agree with a video forum so that videos are easily available for anyone to view.

I agree with the backroom so that important discussion can be made without unnecessary interruption, and only good players will be involved in the discussion (I don't know if I would make the cut, but even if I'm out, I say it should exist anyways).

I guess I agree to a character forum so that new and 'weaker' people can discuss their favourite character and discuss strategies with that character, as well as ask character specific questions. Character specific threads, even with a sticky in the main forum, won't be visible since first off people never look at the stickies, and second the threads die with new or bumped threads pushing them away.

And we should definitely have our own section instead of being in the 'gaming' section.

Edit:

I'm just looking at ways to try to attract more people to smash 64, as our 'hidden' single smash 64 forum isn't too effective.

This should be first priority.

This is a Smash Bros. site, so why are we lumped in with Pokemon and F-Zero? Even if we remain just one forum with one sub-forum, I think we deserve a spot below Melee where we have a proper title. It's just plain stupid the way it is now. I mean, we're even below the "General Discussion" section, which is ****ing ********.

Yes we should have our own section like melee and brawl.

But no one with the power to do that will ever see this thread and if they did I seriously doubt that they would care about our opinions.

We ssb64 players are an oppressed gamer.

This. It always upsetted me. We need to take action, now! I only don't know who's responsible for this...

I don't agree with either btw, even a video subforum is unnecessary, threads or sticky threads should be enough.

What exactly would be the big deal if they added this as it's own category and gave it subforums? More specifically on sub-forums? Is this going to hinder the site any way or is it just "unprofessional" or some garbage like that which has no actual determinant to real life...

In my honest opinion, a Smash 64 Backroom would be one of the best things to ever happen to the 64 community of Smashboards. Fill it with people who have been playing the longest and those who know the game like the back of their hand and maybe we can get somewhere on the tier list. To me, I was sick and tired of going into the tier list thread and seeing half the posts being "I don't see how Luigi is bottom, his fire punch is good" and "Ness rulez! He's the best!"

Seriously, make a 64 backroom >_>

Well, the reason backrooms are done like this is so we don't have idiots making threads about topics they can't post in. You can bet some random scrub would come in, read the hypothetical 64 BRoom's tier discussion, and make a thread titled "teh broom is dum link pwnz". It may sound like we're taking unnecessary precautions... but trust me, stuff like that would happen.

In any case, I don't post here enough (even though I read nearly everything), so I won't vote on the poll :p

For the record, though, I agree that 64 getting blindsighted and even being put below the Light House is a questionable move at best.

Aren't they supposed to do that? Aren't they doing that anyway? I mean, isn't that what this forum is about?

If it's that bad then lock the thread. Otherwise what's wrong with people discussing the back room's decisions? They do that anyway whenever a new tier list comes out.

With the backroom, people can actually make the tier list with no disruptions over "my bottom tier character should be higher" and other stuff like that. If anyone can post on the discussion, we'd be spending too much time explaining why they are where they are, and half the people would get annoyed and stop discussing it. A backroom is a nice private place to discuss it.

We're already posting in the SSB64 "backroom." 90+% of our regular posters would have access to a closed off forum. And what would it accomplish aside from giving the lonely competitive forum an equally lonely friend? Topics like the matchup topic are doing just fine with little to no noob interruption as things currently are.

This forum is slow. Cutting it up more would be bad. Character specific forums would be completely barren of life. If we want to preserve topics like character guides (which I have come to believe are of dubious worth, even though I wrote one myself), then we can just make a sticky that maintains a list of links to them.

That's called debate... and it's gonna happen in a backroom too. If someone is being completely stupid, they just get ignored anyway.

And if there has to be a backroom then at least it should be viewable by anyone.

Mods have lives too, you know.

Absolutely nothing. If the community dislikes the BRooms decision, not only do they not have to play by it, but the BRoom also will overturn whatever the disliked decision is IF enough people don't like it. Discussing it is perfectly okay, but only when the BRoom puts it out there for, you know, discussion.

Here's my proposal for the future of SMASH 64 on smashboards:

- Backroom (viewable by the public but they cannot post)
- Video forum (forum because if we get our own category in the main page it's no longer a "sub-forum")
- Our own category on the smashboards homepage
- A new mod to mod the new changes

Here's an image so that you can get an idea.

The "Smash Bros. 64 Tournaments" forum can be debatable. It's basically a forum devoted to just tournaments wether it be online tournaments or console tournaments. Same thing with "Character Specific" I think the Backroom can have a sub-forum that says "Character specific" and then the top players can have sticky's of all the players discuss their matchups, tier spot etc Most likely CHaracter Specific can be replaced with something else. Also a Mod can post Polls in the backroom where normal users can vote on something like "should ness be higher on the tier list?" and then the top players work with that but ultimately the backroom members have first word.
