Played kinda bad this set, and apparently he made notes about me. Wasnt ready for that, but next time I will. Also little did I know ZSS is apparently his personal best MU. Just wanted to give it a try though.

LR9: Cat:4link: vs. Yikarur:4miibrawl:: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdXYfuKBFQE
First time ever playing against a Brawler. Got beat fairly game 1, but that 2nd game..

WR3: Cat:4link:/:4metaknight: + Dumbfire:4wiifit: vs. Gregs:4sheik: + Marc:4cloud:: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-qQ5hN_S7E
Dont watch game 2

I think I played pretty badly at both these tournies. Not quite like myself and how I used to. Trying to fix it though.

But that Didi match was crazy! I also notice how well you where fighting his nana combo string with the jab, like you say in the MU treat and the grabs yo! The grabs...

Dang, that is some of the most intense projectile game I've ever seen on a Link, especially in the match against that Rob. His use of boomerang and arrow pressure is top-notch, and his bomb and gyro control is excellent. His double-jab into up-b first set against Rob is something I've never seen before, and against the Diddy, the way he short-hopped and baited out the airdodge to land the f-smash was so smart. I'm definitely taking notes on this guy.

Double Jab to Up-B is something Hyrule Hero and others do quite frequently to be honest, and Izaw even covered the gist of it (it's a mixup) in one of his art of link videos. Jab 2 -> something is never guaranteed, as they can shield, attack or jump out in time. However, it can catch people off guard. Cat's done the short-hop FSmash thing too, but it's always fun to see it work :). Nevertheless, it's cool if folks are learning technically known things from these videos.

Oh. I thought the most commonly used thing was double jab grab or double jab dsmash. I guess up-b is used to screw with their DI? I've watched a lot of HH, Izaw, Scizor, and SOVA Unknown, so I probably have seen it before, but his projectile game is what impresses me most. I don't think I've seen anything like it. He just creates so much pressure and uses them so intelligently. I'm surprised I haven't heard of him until now. I've watched a few of his other sets and they're almost as crazy as these, but it's clear this guy's getting much better. I really hope to see more of him.

Yeh I hadn't heard of him before too, and like @Fox Is Openly Deceptive said in his other thread, he uses bomb drops/pickups REALLY well, which the others don't really do. Interesting, hadn't seen his previous sets, but awesome to see he's getting better.

Nice job on the first finals game. Being a projectile waller myself I really liked your use of soft dropped bombs to keep Diddy from running around the stage. On the offstage game I personally prefer to use a gale to hit te rocket barrels or if I'm lucky a quick snipe with bow, either way that's just me. I think you make realy good use of Link's powerful air game and won that first game by keeping it simple and to the point.

Hey, you were at Smash at Mac, weren't you? A friend and I went there because it was nearby. It was my second tournament ever and his first. Unsurprisingly, we both got bodied, and I had the pleasure of going up against Cookietic first set. I just couldn't seem to escape his footstools out of throws no matter how what direction I chose to DI. My friend then proceeded to get knocked out of the tournament by you. I never saw your Link, and we had to leave early, but we had a lot of fun. I'm hoping to get to more tournaments, but I'm having trouble with scheduling. I hope to see you once I improve!

Hey, another question, I am having trouble finding tournaments that I can attend. I'm with the Minnesota Smash Facebook group, but is there anything else I can do to find more tournaments?

I was trenching through the experience that is Japanese Vods and found this oddity. I think his tag is Dogas(?) but my Japanese is Garbage and the font is trash. Anyway he got top 3 at this 120 man tournament using link. Though it's a 3DS and he lacks a lot of basic tech he's really phenomenal. AC Dair is pretty neat.

That Link rolls too much and under utilizes the projectile game by relying only on bombs when there were many situations where Gale would have done the same job, in regards to bombs he was too direct most of the time, just throwing a bomb at a target when a more indirect placement such as Z dropping a bomb which also gives him a hitbox out front that extends for a long freaking time. His grab timing was also poor and honestly Link shouldn't be going for grabs off of anything other than a read or a punish as the startup is just awful.

I'd also suggest getting better at the transition from range to melee as it is where a lot of people have trouble with Link.

Here's a vid. from a local tourney I was at a couple weeks ago.

Match 1: 23:05 to 36:20

Match 2: 49:24 to 1:00:00

Game 2 was against WA's best DDD, Girthquake. Before game one, I told him and our commentators that it was a tourney match. Guess he didn't hear me, because he thought it was friendlies.

lmao you really need to stop pummeling too much, waste of grabs when they break up while you could do a guaranteed follow-up

Against Shiek you were pretty solid, right up until you went offstage without a bomb or plan to get back on, Your use of projectiles was somewhat inconsistent and on occasion poorly timed as I saw several instances where you went for Gale up close and got punished for it.

Your melee game is however very solid, against faster characters it's very hard for Link to take stocks without the use of his projectiles in either a setup or a trapping capacity, you managed to pull it off which was impressive, though I'd suggest working on your spacing in the sense that you seem to want to be able to zone as well as use Link's melee potential, and that requires a very fine spacing, just outside the range of your blade but not close enough to get punished if you wiff a Gale or bomb.

https://www.twitch.tv/fraservalleysmash/v/66498749?t=34m08s - Battle of BC 34:08
Ty (:4link:) vs. Len (:4sheik:) - Ty is one of the 2 links that got 9th at Battle of BC (133 man tourney)

Iris Z (:4link:) vs. Shoghi (:4marth:) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gOnrpsNQUw - Seems like it's from battle of BC (Losers top 24).

Iris Z / Espeon CH (:4link:) vs. Silver (:4villager:) - https://www.twitch.tv/fraservalleysmash/v/66478852?t=19m59s.

Iris Z / Espeon CH (:4link:) vs. Jovo 55 (:4mario: / :4falcon:) - https://www.twitch.tv/fraservalleysmash/v/66478852?t=38m32s.

Ty had a good game 1 (probably because Len underestimated him), and then Len remembered he was Sheik in games 2 & 3... Len got 3rd at the tourney anyhow, just below Anti & Big D.

I really enjoyed our matches. Though, in the future, try to remember to ask me if you want to upload vids by name. Friendlies don't feel very friendly when the one match you lost gets put up on display. :p

Don't even worry about it. Just for future reference. The only reason I ask that is because if I'm going to be on display, I want to play in a way that will reflect that so I don't look like an idiot.

In any case, you did great that match and earned the win. Keep it up. Just let me know in the future if you intend to put replays up with names. :p I'm always fine with it, just so long as I know. :)

Now that it is summer an update to this thread will come, but I am afraid it will be necessary to ditch literally every video currently listed. The sad fact is most footage is not only massively outdated because of patches, but also because the gameplay has lost its edge over time. I will place new footage starting at early 2016 (?) of everything notable and we can continue on like that... With as principle that it would be the kind of thing I'd want to look at myself to get help for the MU, or that I'd find worth watching for general skill on display. Quality over quantity for sure.

That sound good?
