Sorry CO but Utah decided not to go (except for Dai-A, who I am unsure about). We'll see you at FC though if you guys go maybe.......possibly......who wants to go to FC?
I'd probably be going in place of Dai. Seriously trying to secure a ride here XD

I'm trying to get there. Just... have to figure a few things out. Luckily it was Wednesday today, not Thursday like I had been thinking it was all day XD That gives me a little more time to try and convince parents and get a possible ride. If that doesn't work... ugh.

Moar liek UT sucks. Brawl's not Melee yet, but it's already generating generous amounts of cash. That's what keeps me from going back to Melee.
Correction, most of Utah sucks. Maybe it is but I doubt you'll be the one takin home that money and tryin to get good at this game for a little extra cash...? Not worth it. Unless you're a pro gamer makin decent money off a game that's not a very good reason to pick a ****ty game over a great one. Start hustlin or get a better job if you need money haha

On another note, Staz is more a f4g then Tsu now for tryin to start ****.

Meh, kids will be kids. Unless you and I are thinking of something completely different.

And I have my views on the two different games... just haven't wrote it down entirely yet.

It's not bad, it's different. And right now, it's not like you have to practice technicals or anything to be good. Just know your fundamentals. Then again, technicals never really helped on your side of the mountains, did it? I think a lot of Melee players are upset because metagame hasn't been handed to them on a silver platter, like it was with most of us when we joined the SSBM community.

I'll start going to OOS tournaments when Brawl's metagame starts developing everywhere or when they have giant national tournaments that also feature Melee (FC)

I was planning on going to C3T, but I can't drive myself (van won't make it), and I don't really have the funds at the moment, especially considering I'm paying for two big trips to L.A. and Vancouver early this summer.

Utah isn't as bad a state in gaming I was led to believe when I first moved up to Orem. There are some pretty big Halo names in these parts, and the Melee community blew me away. We are one of five states with that stupid ****ing online gaming tax though, so lame. Utah is an EXTREMELY cheap state though, so it's bound that tournament payouts aren't expected to be great. I've run convention booths in a lot of different states, and Utah blows. "$15 for a shirt, that's to much." Ok... Even Colorado payed out more, and it was a WAY smaller convention.

While I do understand that people have these things called "lives", waiting for metagame to develop instead of developing one yourself can lead to really falling behind. Look at any of the 4 corner states aside from AZ. Sure, CO had a pretty sick Melee scene, and we were able to keep from getting owned near the end, but due to our complete lack of REAL OOS experience, as well as being there to truly understand why the metagame was what it was, we weren't able to place any higher than like... 48th or something like that at OC3 (I got 64th, but Kenny made it one or two more rounds than I, so I know he placed higher than that). I dunno how well Utah did, but I can't imagine it was much better. AZ, meanwhile, repped pretty well, going so far as to take out each other in tournament.

SoCal's scene was full of crappy players because they just kinda jumped in and expected to be good. Their 5th best couldn't beat our... 7th? Not too good of a sign.

I digress, I love my soap box too much, and CO misses UT. Come play us, before I leave for MN. D:

Oh, I'd thought for some reason the trip had been canceled. Too late anyway, I've made myself busy, sorry.

As far as other games go... I'm trying to pick up/get into Halo 3, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, and Call of Duty 4. I haven't jumped online with RSV2 or CoD4 yet, but I will eventually. I have a couple friends down here I wanna try to get a team together with, but I'd still love trying to play with some of you here, see if we can get a decent team going.

No Street Fighter for me, sorry, especially with 4 coming out soon. I still have Marvel vs Capcom 2 on the Dreamcast if anyone wants me to hand that off to them. Good luck though. PS3 blows, especially since SO many more play on X-Box 360, sorry Goji. These truly are sad times though... but whatever, what's everyone's gamertags? Mine's Laynemon (been trying to get it switched to lengeta, can't DX ).

IoZ: ICs have infinite grabs, but I didn't know G&W was broken, just really good. What's he got?

Flippin' fast movements.

Oh, and greetings from Colorado. Tournament sucks, be glad most of you didn't go. There is next to no organization whatsoever. Hell, I have to go and tell them "HEY MORONS! YOU'VE GOT FOUR FREE TVS!" They jump around in the play order too. And they blame that matches taking so long for the tournaments length, lolzorz.

Never coming to this **** again.

I'll add you sometime soon, Slave. I'm not on much at all, and it looks like I'll be aiming at Halo 3 until I get some actual practice for other games.

As for Brawl, I've decided I'm going to go ahead a main Falco again. He's just too sexy. Pit will remain my first backup though, and he's still a lot better than my Falco, but I don't care.

Okay, so here's basically the quick version of the tourney. Got knocked into the loser's bracket just barely by some guy named IzzyInfamous for the tourney, he was using Sonic. As usual, I keep forgetting about Dave's Stupid Rule and we had done FD twice, but this was about ten minutes after the match, so oh well. Knocked a few people around, then barely loss to G&W because I got too hasty and then lost miserably to Fox (definitely need to play those two more). I believe the player was spiritdragon. His tag was Ferdi. Teams were so-so, but I'm amazed at how much back pull I did with the partner I had (we both knew it'd be that way, friend of mine that went with). But, alas, that didn't go much better.

Full report time! In three words: The organization sucked. Let's start with registration.

We found the building (after driving around for about 20 minutes in arriving in the city) and had to wait around for registration to open. That's cool. While in line when it did open, met a few people who were pretty cool. Talked awhile, we noticed our line wasn't moving, so we decided to go to the other line. Stood there for a small sec, when a guy who was a friend of theirs came by and said, "You guys are going to be disappointed. This is the Halo line. Smash line is over there." Same line we were in, yep. That would probably mean they need to put some **** signs up. Anyway, why the line was moving so slow was because the computer had some issues, so it held up for, like, 20 minutes. If they had got a pen and paper they could've done ATD registrations no problem, but noooooo. Wait for the computer to get back up, of course.

Anyway, so it starts way late, that's fine. Fight the first match, lost, that's fine too. However, it took forever for my match to start. Why? Because they decided to break up the 61 competitors into three different brackets. I have no clue why they couldn't, you know, simply do a 64 person bracket. Maybe it was computer limitations? If so, then draw one up by hand. It's not hard folks.

Tournament proceeds slowly. I get information once in awhile, tell them a TV is free and what not. At one point there are FOUR OF SEVEN TVs FREE. I go inform the guy, and he's all, "Hold on, I'm making the next set of brackets." I'm thinking to myself, "If you actually went down the list in order rather than jump around and kept on top of things you wouldn't have to wait." Of course don't say anything. Rather not piss off the staff (though right now I'm cool with it. The only guy who knew how to run this was DancingFighterG). And they keep wondering why things are going slow. I laughed. Also, side note, around this point, I get asked a question time to time as to how the tourney is running. When a player is being asked those questions and not the staff, there is a MAJOR problem folks.

Another thing is they had also changed the rules from what was on the site (example: Yoshi's Island become Counterpickable and Port Town Aero Dive become banned). It didn't bother me that much, but there should've been note of it at least three days before the tourney started. If it was just then that it happened, it shouldn't have happened.

One last thing was they sucked with the whole "disqualification" thing. I understand they want every player to have a chance, but when it has been ten minutes and the player hasn't shown up, get rid of them, please. There's a bathroom rule we use for the DDR tourneys. If you aren't there for your match, then you get one more chance, that chance being the go through the rest of that area (Winners' matches, losers' matches, etc) and then loop back to that person so they can continue the tournament. That probably sounded more confusing.

And I believe when finals came, they took the top two from each bracket (three of them, remember?) and pitted them in another double elim bracket. Don't quote me on that though, that's my assumption from seeing the computer here and there. Though they shouldn't have done the three different brackets, seeing as they did, and did those final six or whatever, round robin would be the best way to go. But hey, that's all my assumption, so please do NOT take my word on that.

Players were pretty chill. Met some awesome people. I'm pretty sure I have the best Zelda though from the matches I had. I fought like, two or three Zeldas and won all of those. One guy had a pretty sick Zelda/Sheik combo though.

Splitting into 3 brackets is called using pools. However, using double elim for all rounds is equivalent to using one big double elim (if you do it right), except that it's more difficult to manage. The only advantages for splitting it up would be to designate a bracket to each TV (since there were 7, this wouldn't make sense), splitting up the losers bracket better (pretty nice), or being able to re-seed the final 6 (which shouldn't need to happen for a well-established tournament).

Since it seems there were problems with efficiency, splitting up the losers bracket in the small chance that 2 friends get matched up doesn't seem worth it.
