At this point I can't even tell what is an unpopular opinion anymore. Do people generally want more FE characters, or do they not? It's impossible to tell.

Anyway, I've recently realized something about myself that definitely qualifies as an "unpopular opinion", though I wasn't quite aware of it until recently. I don't like traditionally cool or traditionally cute characters. I like weird characters--those who are somewhere in between "badass" and "adorable", usually more on the goofy side, but sometimes with no real humorous elements to them at all. I like King K Rool, the Koopalings, Alph, Mega Man, Diddy Kong, Wario, King Dedede, Donkey Kong, Wolf, Ridley...those characters with generally strange, and therefore unique, designs. My most wanted characters are Rayman and Dixie Kong, predictably.

Characters designed primarily to be "badass" like FE, Cloud, Shulk, Ryu, Zero Suit Samus, Sheik, Ken, Snake...just don't do it for me! It's easy to make a character who acts cool, y'know? I guess there are some exceptions like Simon Belmont, but I like him mainly because of the AVGN and his Western-inspired design. The overly cute characters don't really tickle my fancy either--Kirby, Isabelle, Pikachu, Jigglypuff, I mean I like these characters but not for the reason I'm supposed to like them. If that makes sense. I like them for their peculiarities and not because "OMG ISABELLE IS ADORABLE!". That happy middle ground where Ivysaur, Olimar, and Larry Koopa lie...that's my sweetspot.

Anyway I'm not sure if I was able to communicate that well. I've always questioned why these characters that ALL OF MY FRIENDS love such as Ike and Snake just don't appeal to me, and now I think I get it. I just wish I knew why I'm like this, seeing as most character designs tend to hug one extreme, it's quite a burdensome preference to take sometimes!

This is a thread for people to vent whatever opinion they want without any repercussion.

So... basically everyone posts here.

Well their cool designs help, but...

I like those characters because I like their games, their appearances, and I like the story they tell.
Like for me, not many characters are just based primarily on what they do in Smash, unless they're like GnW and ICs. Don't think I've ever touched their games.

I'm in a sort of similar vein, although it definitely leans more against cute characters than cool. I couldn't care any less about a character that's got a cute design and often times actively annoyed by them because of it. I completely dislike Pikachu and Pichu because of it (well that and because of how much those characters get shoved into my face because of how big they are) and the only real exceptions are characters who have something cool about them that overshadows the cuteness. Like Kirby's a pretty awesome character in my eyes because of the insanity that is the stuff he does in his games, dude's a monster.
I much prefer the odd, nonsensical designs primarily due to my enjoyment of generally silly and absurd things since even if they have a bit of cuteness attached to it the utter stupidity (in the good way) of the character takes precedent and allows me to ignore the attempt at heart string pulling.
On the other hand with the "badass" types it's usually a pretty big positive to me honestly, I'm a bit of an edgelord admittedly so the sort of dark and brooding types don't really bother me. This isn't to say that being as edgy as possible attracts me because of cases like pre-Norse God of War in which the amount of seriousness turned him into a laughing stock for me (probably doesn't help that at that point all Kratos really was was just an angry god killer and nothing else).
I guess I prefer my characters with a decent blend of absurdity and seriousness hold the cuteness. And while the first part seems pretty common I never did get why it seems cute characters are so popular, since to me it just feels manipulative and annoying

close. do you want DLC of RWBY or no? I imagine it could be an unpopular opinion either way, at least on smashboards, since nobody else seems to have brought it up.
High key would love RWBY DLC. I’ll let my bias run free and say I’d want Neo or Pyrrha first and foremost. Peach is my spirit animal but Neo wields her parasol like a sword (must be made of mithril). Roman would be troll and I love it already. Sun and Yang would be really fun too. They would have funny taunts. P.E.N.N.Y. would have a tether grab. Any of the cast would be fun in a Smash style setting (ring out v stamina KO). Emerald, that’s a tricky one. Ruby would be fun too. That scythe. Could even expand on one off characters. Velvet would break the meta. Coco, I’d just want to hit people with a briefcase.

Screw it, just have a RWBY Smash Bros.

I’m surprised no one’s even joked about it.

I’ve also secretly wanted Viewtiful Joe and Sexy Sylvia. But that series is dead. Still a fun game though.

tbh I've never watched RWBY (I have no interest in television), but if it did get a newcomer, I'd want it to be the Ice Cream-lookin' Lady.

That’s Neo (Neopolitan)

My favorite.

They all have some sort of amalgamated martial arts fighting style coupled with elements of dance (ballet, breaking, etc.).

What does that remind me of... oh yeah!
Aang and Katara for Smash.

Would’ve loved Dixie if even a semi clone echo.
Wouldn’t it be a punch in the t*ts to have Dixie stay spirit and have Tiny randomly join the fight?
I’d still play her.

I mean, I wouldn't be furious about that. It'd be weird but I like Tiny Kong just fine. In fact I was actually thinking about the possibility of her as an echo--err, but that's a bit off topic.

I have this bias, to. I want Smash to remain mostly odd creatures, unique creative entities/magical humans like Mario and Kirby. I don't like to hate on FE but they are prime examples of what I can't stand, at least not to where their now represented since they are basically everyday people. Even Captain Falcon has a more mythical feel while from a preferably realistic series.

I wish Smash's realism didn't go beyond Star Fox.

Personally, I have a bit of a stigma against third party fighters. I only want third party characters that I have some sort of a connection to, like Master Chief and de Blob. Other than that, characters like Crash and Rayman don't appeal to me whatsoever.

If you think Fire Emblem characters are too realistic, you must hate :ultryu::ultken::ultsnake::ultlittlemac:.

I hate it when people blame Sakurai for their most wanted character not being in. Grow up. Of course he has the final say, that doesn't mean he's biased against your character or whatever. And it's even worse when people see other popular choices for DLC as competition and proceed to bash them in their support threads.

I seen this responses so many times. All of the examples you listed aren't even the characters I'm referring to. Little Mac is what I consider a magical human because he has a form of autistic, he isn't able to typically communicate like a regular human. Ryu is the fighting genre its self and Snake is a far more mythical, cartoony character than realistic.

Autism is magical now? Does that mean I can fire lightning bolts?
...No. No, I can't.

A Fortnite character would be an interesting in Smash, and would make sense from a marketing stand-point.

I think Warner Bros. deserves a character from one of the various video-game franchises they own since they have a strong relationship with Nintendo (multiple exclusive games, and they're making the Pokemon movie). I'm not sure if this is really unpopular.

I think Bandana Dee & Dixie Kong would be boring additions. In-terms of move-set potential, both of them just seem kind of bland (especially for Dee if SSF2 is anything to go by... Like, I know SSF2 isn't official or anything, but the devs for the game really competent when it comes to characters unique to their game, and the Simon they made was almost exactly the same as the one Nitendo one despite the fact that they had no idea that Simon was being added to Ultimate).

Well then explain what you meant because no matter how you slice it that’s what it looked like you meant through all the broken English, no reason to call us names for interpreting you in just about the only way that could’ve been interpreted bud

:4cloud:-Should be cut.

While he's very popular, Cloud is 0% Nintendo only having shown up in spin-off games on Nintendo consoles.

A character from Final Fantasy 6 or even Bravely Default would have been better.
This aged well.

Lol, now that Final Fantasy VII is on Nintendo hardware, does your stance change at all?
Partially, the original opinion was contrarian for the sake of the thread.

I actively welcome Cloud into Smash, with or without a port. I'm happy to be wrong.

And, uh, I was salty at that godly Up-Air.

Yes, instead. He's a PlayStation character, so he should be in the PlayStation crossover. A lot of people make the argument that he represents Final Fantasy as a whole, but he really doesn't as every bit of FF content (what little there is) is from VII. I would feel the same way about Snake but he's had some significant appearances on Nintendo consoles.
