I plan on being an Heir to the Monado. Hopefully the Wii U version comes with a "Smash TV" feature similar to Mario Kart TV, because I doubt I could afford any video capture equipment.

Here's some footage of a Shulk player up against a level 9 Fox. My only complaint is that he didn't take time out to test just how fast Shulk goes with both the bunny hood and Monado Speed activated at the same time.

Played a couple of matches against a Pikachu today online (there was a little bit of lag and audio is a touch off. Also had a random match of Dark Pit in there). Any critiques would be great.

1st match
- Wow man. You really grabbed the hell out of that Pikachu
- Smart move on vision countering the thunder
- Holy smokes. That Pikachu fast falled to his death. You guys must have had a laugh there
- Nice edge guarding and nice vanilla combos
- Got nothing to say though. Use shield more? I guess? You did good in that match
- I suck at this whole critiquing thing

2nd match
- Dang it. That Pikachu missed its recovery--- Whoops, I forgot I'm suppose to talk about you
- You're really getting used to the timing of that vision. Nice
- I think it was a good idea to air dodge when suffering huge knockback. It helps and I think it still helps in this game. That way, you can reserve a second jump, switch to monado jump then recover
- Not sure if it was accidental but you dashed to the edge and threw out u-smash for some reason. Actually, you did this more than once. I don't think it's a great idea (Unless I'm missing something about u-smash)
- Just my opinion but using Smash when both of you are at a high % is fine but using shield is the safer option. Then again, it depends if... *cough* your feeling it :troll:

- When you knock Pikachu upwards, it's probably the best time to switch. Actually, if you have space between you and Pikachu, then use an art. At some points, you kinda missed the opportunity
- HOLY ****. DAT F-TILT TIMING AT THE END

An advertisement of the Equalizer showed up. I don't know the movie is probably gonna be crap anyway but I'll try not to go off topic

The video is taking long to buffer so I'll just leave it here. The remarks in red are important. The rest are useless stuff

Edit: I don't know if it's only me but the video kinda freezes at the 28:30 mark but never mind, I got around it

3rd match
- N-air against ledge rolling or any ledge options... Nice one
- SH Bair isn't really a great idea. Your better off with using n-air for ledged opponents. B-air has landing lag unlike n-air
- I think D-tilting Pikachu is a solid way of getting a hit confirm. I mean, yeah, at some points and past matches you were able to get a full combo on Pikachu but I honestly feel that d-tilt is probably the best way to go about it
- Same as in the second match, air dodge instead of using your second match or use f-air when being sent off stage. I think this still works. Use monado jump when off-stage then use your second jump. OH RIGHT, instead of air dodging, you should just counter. I think. If I recall correctly, counter has this odd effect that slows down your air momentum
- Pikachu's dash attack is punishable when it's shielded
- Shield is still sad face
- Oh crap. That thunder meteor smash (Nice one from Pikachu)..... Not sure what to say... Be careful next time? O_o
- Shulk's juggling is a bit eh. There isn't really much reasons to use u-throw unless you're thinking about following up to u-tilt or air slash. For KOing, always use either f-throw or especially b-throw, or maybe d-throw. Honestly, I think b-throw is the most reliable
- You were doing a good job at making a come back. It would be more possible with the help of shield. Shield doesn't reduce your knockback but it does reduce your damage output BUT TO BE HONEST, it would be better to just grind it out in my opinion

Right of the bat I can say that:

- I know I use smashes way too much
- I know I use tilts way too little
- I know I grab too little
- I know I don't space very good

Well, first of--- Nice matches.

Second, I can't really understand what's going on in the video but I'll try to think of what I can tell ya

- Thanks to this video, we know that Wario can bite Shulk out of back slash
- You know when to use back slash properly and you seem to use it at the right time
- Don't dash attack a lot. It's punishable
- Actually... Well, you use your smashes a lot but it seems like most of them connect. Oh and, huge plus because your the first player who actually KO'd with u-smash from all the videos I watched
- You scored two vision kills. One that actually won the game. Nice
- Actually, you kinda said it yourself. You use your tilts way too little and you don't grab that much
- Tip: I think using forward vision counter might not whiff. From the trailer video of Shulk, it seems like it just goes through the enemy. It's shorter ranged but I'm guessing it might not whiff as much. Needs testing

Overall, good job.

I don't feel like I'm the most credible one to listen to because I haven't even got the game. I'm just thinking with whatever we found about Shulk. Just gonna throw that in here

Thanks for the help! I feel like sometimes I destroy with Shulk, sometimes I make stupid decisions and sometimes I am just not... feeling it.... with him so thanks for giving me some things to work on. I know I should never be fishing for U-smashes... but they feel so good when you get them off..... :/

Yeah. I know where you're coming from.

When I mained Snake in Brawl, I went against natural instinct and threw nairs and fairs for no reason other than, it feels good if you connect. I get wrecked for it.

Just some random stuff, the Shulk against ROB wasn't using monado arts for the most part in the first match so... er... bleck. Also, he didn't use monado speed or jump against ROB (He made the same mistake and went straight to buster IIRC). Still, take some tricks from each of the players

That Diddy was insanely good. Wow... I actually went to the Diddy Kong thread and saw the same video posted. Oh and apparently, the Diddy player has an account in Smashboards

Oh and about the Shulk, I kinda posted my thoughts on his performance in another thread but basically, he did well but he could have done better if he started out with jump or speed. I don't think buster is all that useful against Diddy

Yeah, Diddy is way too fast and can combo easily.
Shulk could not breathe. Some matchups seem really hard for Shulk though.

I wasn't aware of that. I don't think I have actually seen a match of these two.

Can't Shulk deflect a "Luma throw" with his Nair or something?
I first thought Dunk Hunt would be a pain for Shulk until I saw his projectiles could be deflected.

Yeah Suinoko is cool. I met him at Apex awhile back. Really humble player.

Also I still don't have the game but I played in an online tournament using my friend's 3DS for fun mostly. Custom moves and equipment were on, and I wasn't really sure how to deal with all of that. But any input is appreciated.

Don't really have anything to say about Mega Man. You were really good with using your smash attacks but back slash needs more love :U. I meant that you could punish Mega Man's missed f-smashes with back slash but, you did great anyway

Little Mac... Whelp. Shield does not work against KO punch. Pretty much means don't use shield, I guess (Other than for stock tanking). Thanks for trying it out though. Mac is simply insane in punishing so using back slash for recovering back on stage might be a bad idea. I think monado speed might be best against Mac. Grabbing will probably be more effective than just slashing him because he has super armor which makes buster less advisable against Mac.

I never really gave Little mac that much thought but now I've seen this, I'm guessing Monado speed truly is the best art against Little Mac. I guess you should use speed more often then. Oh, and as tempting as it is, don't short hop b-air. It has landing lag. I think it's only useful for finishing combos or for edgeguarding but that's pretty much it

I don't know about this but maybe vision counter might be extremely effective against Mac. His moves are somewhat easy to telegraph. I'm not sure but this might be a case of "easier said than done". Mostly, that charge punch, his f-smash and his leaping punch

Edit: I'm only talking about his charge punch, f-smash and leaping punch. Yeah. I think it's easier said than done. Lol. tl;dr: Monado speed, don't shield or buster often, grab, don't back slash. I guess that's all

Edit(2): All this stuff is coming from a guy who doesn't have a game so take this as a grain of salt since I'm purely taking guesses regarding the suggestions against Mac.

Yeah, there was a lot of lag and it just felt like Mac was swinging everywhere and using his over B a ton, which I tried to grab him for. But I did learn that shielding KO punch doesn't do anything which is still very scary to me. lol I never know when to use back slash but I'll try to implement it into gameplay more. I didn't use counter too much because I'm not used to the timing yet, so I was afraid to use it.

Hopefully when I get the full game I can get better and be more confident in knowing when to use which move/art for which situation. Thank you for the input.

I think it was a nice gameplay video.
The only thing I would say is that you should probably try to get to your opponents when they are off stage. Ledge guard. You could have finished Megaman way earlier if you hadn't let him recover.
This is my humble opinion.

I really like Shulk in his purple outfit. I think I may have chosen my outfit color.

Me critiquing now would be like me mentally playing the Piano (but never physically touching the keys) & then going out on stage to actually play you all a song, It just looks weird. I am really Dair happy sometimes.
Against Ike I should have used Shield more.
In general I still find I could use arts more. Sometimes I run in when I could have used an art to help myself a bit more.
Still use Bair to the ground sometimes when there are so many better options.
Also, I just get lucky sometimes. :/

PS: I don't know why the Robin vid glitches out a bit a couple of times.

Thanks for the great vids. That ZSS was no joke. I'm eying Shulk as a possible new main, and you're definitely one of the better players I've seen. I love your use of Monado Arts and focus on aerial attacks and jabs. And I totally approve of the Dair use (though I definitely can't speak to its competitive viability); spikes just feel so good. Like you said, you could use the Arts more, but I think it will take a lot of time to be able to know and reflexively activate the proper Art in any given situation. You're leagues ahead of most people I've seen, especially in knowing when to use Shield and Speed.

I also noticed that you had some really strong off-stage game in those videos. Air Slash may be pretty mediocre move in terms of pure recovery distance, but darn if it isn't good for poking opponents standing above the ledge. Your frequent use of Shulk's counter to return to the stage was pretty cool too. In the Ike video, especially, it was nice to see some of the strengths and drawbacks of Shulk's counter. It appears to be surprisingly easy to whiff the counterattack, which is a bummer, but at least Shulk doesn't take damage. On the other hand, the massive reach of the counterattack looks to help Shulk deal with some slow projectiles while not leaving himself open.

Very good videos Jelly. Your spacing and use of grab to jabs in Buster Mode I found was really cool. I think at the start of one of the vids, it did like 23% alone! I love your use of Vision to get out of some tough spots, and I think you even used to to recover back towards the stage!

I think the Vs. Ike video was the hypest of the three. Both you and that Ike were on point the whole match which made it very entertaining to watch and observe how you used Nair/Fair on stage and Dair/Bair off stage.

You managed on a few occasions to link Shulk's Nair with his 3 jabs for a 4 hit combo. I'm sure there is somewhere to go from this.

I don't remember ZSS having recovering issues... Is this a thing (I don't think it should be but whatever)? Anyway, jesus man. You got really used to the timing of vision counter. Yeah, you tend to get dair happy too much you did well against Zamus. And Ike. And Robin. Lmao at the first part of the Robin match. You both lost a stock. Not much to criticize to be honest.

To be fair you manage your arts better then a lot of the random Shulk videos I've seen.
