I personally recommend Pirate's Curse or Half-Genie Hero if you wanna start

Pirate's Curse is a small and fairly entertaining Metroidvania that hits all of the beats for me. As someone who never played a Metroidvania in his life, I found it to be a great time. It's my preferred out of the two

Half-Genie is a relatively small platformer. Not bad by any means, and the animated sprites are beautiful. It's just nothing you haven't already seen beyond witty dialogue.

Regardless of the two games, you're in for a bopping soundtrack.

You can skip the first game but for story reasons, play through or at the very least watch Risky’s Revenge cause Pirate’s Curse immediately picks up where RR left off and you might get confused at what’s going on.
