tbh that whole subreddit is a goldmineIt's funny when people get so pissed about dumb things.
It's one thing to not like Yoshi, Whatever, you don't like the character. It's fine.
But this guy was so, so mad I can't help but chuckle.

lol you colored in a downvote and everything
So what you're trying to say is...I'm not sure that being a "Top 10 Genre" thing is all that important when, if you think about it:
1) Resident Evil has been a longtime system seller across generations. When Resident Evil 4 was announced for Gamecube, that was a huuuuge deal.
2) It's a widespread multimedia franchise, releasing not only quality games, but (haven't seen them, so won't speak to quality) movies, as well as comics and books
3) Among Capcom games, the Resident Evil series was the most significant seller. This changed after Monster Hunter World released last year and took the world by storm. This is the same company that brought us Street Fighter, which has a pair of characters in Smash
4) Like all other 3rd party series currently in Smash, it's Japan-made.
5) In terms of "niche" markets, Smash is probably the only "fighting game" that doesn't target a niche market in itself. Tekken, Street Fighter, and Soul Caliber certainly do not reach a mass audience, mainly because of the intimidation factor of it.
6) In terms of other 3rd parties in Smash, each has effectively been a standout character in their respective field. Sonic was a longtime rival for Mario, and reached a broad demographic with the 2D gameplay. Mega Man and Castlevania a similar platformer demographic and are known for their tight, difficult but fair gameplay. Despite Snake getting in with the Kojima thing, Metal Gear is considered the pinnacle of not only "stealth" or "espionage action", but for cinematic gameplay. MGS4 especially was a first among many games that have taken this route.
Bayonetta, like Dante, has some tight controls and gameplay within her home series...plus I think Bayonetta is a separate thing on her own. Pac-Man is Pac-Man, and then when it comes to RPGs, there's no other realistic choice than Final Fantasy, and with Cloud being from the game that frankly set the bar that much higher for the series and the genre going forward for generations.
Resident Evil, similar to some of these games, set the bar for true "survival-horror" gameplay, and there's even puzzles mixed in (like the freaking police station having hidden keys for an office. Who sets up a Police Department like that?) It's not just the zombies that are meant to scare you, but the situation. You don't have bundles of ammo. Zombies don't die to one shot. You have to plan very, very carefully. You have to hope you brought the right items with you, and that you remember where you needed to go. Otherwise, a typical run down a hallway that you're familiar with may turn into a hallway of terrors, once a stronger than expected monster corners you, and you don't have any more First Aid spray, or you hear that dreaded *click* out of your pistol after missing just one too many shots out of panic.
Silent Hill certainly has its own merits, but Resident Evil is one that has the standout characters that have mixed in with crossovers before, and is the one that seems to still be alive (that Silent Hills cancellation still hurts). I'm not a bandwagoner of the idea, having played 4,5,6, RE2make, and having watched a playthrough of 7, I firmly believe the series has a spot in the "greatest of all time" with a handful of classic games from the series. The first half of the series is especially excellent, with the later games (5 and 6) lending more to action, 4 being that happy medium between the 2.
@staindgrey could add onto what I've said already, because I don't want this to be, like, my 3rd wall o'text of the day. But I hope I'm making sense.
Bowser’s Inside Story. What is everyone's favorite Mario and Luigi game?
I think mine is Superstar Saga, but I haven't played Bowser's Inside Story or Paper Jam...What is everyone's favorite Mario and Luigi game?

I don't have one because I've never played any of the Mario & Luigi series. What is everyone's favorite Mario and Luigi game?
I think Partners in Time is okay for what it is, but I'll never forgive that game for how it portrayed YoshisI've played Superstar Saga and Partners in Time, and I prefer SS. I love both of them, though.
And I need to play BiS
OkI don't have one because I've never played any of the Mario & Luigi series.
I haven't played SMRPG either (well, not much of it).
I should have seen this comingI think Partners in Time is okay for what it is, but I'll never forgive that game for how it portrayed Yoshis
I can agree with that.Bowser's Inside Story for me.
Although every game in the series is pretty good, which I rarely say for any video game series.
I like them all but if I absolutely had to choose I would choose Partners in Time since it was my very first Mario RPG so it brings back memories. out of all of them even outside of the M&L Series it would of course be SMRPG cause it has our boy GenoWhat is everyone's favorite Mario and Luigi game?
Maybe some day.Ok
finish SMRPG :D
Something something last surprise.I should have seen this coming
IIRC, PiT was actually the first Mario game I played, and the second video game I ever played, after Smash Brawl.I like them all but if I absolutely had to choose I would choose Partners in Time since it was my very first Mario RPG so it brings back memories. out of all of them even outside of the M&L Series it would of course be SMRPG cause it has our boy Geno
Definitely Partners in Time. What is everyone's favorite Mario and Luigi game?
What's wrong with the Yoshi's in that game?I think Partners in Time is okay for what it is, but I'll never forgive that game for how it portrayed Yoshis
That's my experience with it too. I played it when I was very young and couldn't really understand it after a certain point but after awhile I played it again and really enjoyed it.IIRC, PiT was actually the first Mario game I played, and the second video game I ever played, after Smash Brawl.
I sucked at it when I first played it lmao. I didn't at all understand what to do.
But I played it a few years later and I understood how to play it and I loved it
You can tell that the guy secretly adores Yoshi.guys i think i found him
...the fabled anti-zinith
Enjoy Boo, Chain Chomp and Goomba as a tag team in the next Smash. Also I don’t care if I get flak for this, but in my opinion, Fawful should be the next Mario character to join the Smash series.
Imo it should Waluigi and then a Mario rpg rep. Also I don’t care if I get flak for this, but in my opinion, Fawful should be the next Mario character to join the Smash series.
Honestly...... I'll get pretty worked up if I mention all the problems. Yes, it is that bad...What's wrong with the Yoshi's in that game?
As a Nintendo Lorekeeper, this jingles my jangles.Honestly...... I'll get pretty worked up if I mention all the problems. Yes, it is that bad...
1. It makes no mention of the events of Yoshi's Island even though the setup was perfect.
2. All the Yoshis are cowardly, even outside of the context of it being that they were facing a monster Yoshi
3. It takes EIGHT of them to push a Chomp Rock when literally EVERY other media depicts one pushing them just fine.
4. And the final insult is that they're idiots when they don't even recognize who their rescuer is and assume it's Baby Bowser (cause it's not like they actively opposed Bowser not too long ago in the timeline or anything. YI doesn't exist to the developers)
Agree. Let Leon get the spotlight in a Capcom crossover for once.Really ****ing sad I missed the Resident Evil talk but Scoliosis Jones put it better than I probably ever could. I'm not even joking around when I say that IF we ever get another Capcom character it will be Leon. Like, Leon or Dante are the only two I can confidently say are super possible.
Yeah, people might bring up Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine but after Resident Evil 4 being the powerhouse that it's always been and now Resident Evil 2 destroying my YouTube feed, I don't think they'll pass on Leon. Leon is the next Capcom rep 100%. And I think it's just a matter of time.
