Actually, it is red, blue and green as primary colors. They just teach you yellow in elementary school for some reason.

In terms of ART, it should be Red, Blue Yellow as the primary trio. Green, Purple, Orange are secondary. And then there's the printing type of Cyan, Megenta, Yellow.

In terms of Science, or how our eyes physically work, it's Red, Blue and Green. Certain animals like Dogs, I think see in Blue and Green, but not Red. Or something like that.

I think not doing it doesn't make them confused because an early elementary school student doesn't have the cognitive function yet to understand both the primary colors of crayon wax and the primary colors of everything else at the same time.

Red and Green light together make Yellow light

I've had to learn both and constantly mix up the 2, and yeah it's pretty stupid.
