Has anyone considered the possibility of there being no Direct at all?

Like, the Joker DLC reveal will actually be in the Atlus announcement?
I suppose? In the February direct, they claimed we'd learn about 3.0 later. That tease, when combined with a full Joker reveal and explanation, seems like a strong indicator of a direct.

Shulk was revealed in a Japan only direct lol
shulk wasn't bundled with the expectations of new game modes and features like 3.0.0 is

i fully expect them to show off jane at the concert and just have NoA's twitter dump that trailer in a random tweet without much fanfare, but i think they need to detail 3.0.0 before then

No. Two weeks isn’t that long. But 4 months absolutely is and I’m already frustrated from all that.
I mean, the wait for Mewtwo was this long. It would have been this long regardless of which character they revealed first.

Think of it this way: If Nintendo stayed quiet about DLC, then people would be mad about not knowing who the first character is. Darned if you do, darned if you don't.

But that’s it. I CAN’T get hyped because there’s no concrete end in sight. There’s no countdown. There’s no fanfare.
I mean no offense, but that sounds like a personal problem.

I feel like most fighting game DLC characters get announced without a release date. Hell, until recently, most Nintendo games got announced without a release date.

The point I'm trying to make is that when Nintendo doesn't announce anything, it's a drought. When they announce something early and don't release it immediately afterward, it's also a drought. I just feel that these periods of our thread going insane aren't so much Nintendo's fault as ours.

My advice is to just play the damn game and wait.

It's like...the same amount of time we had between Mewtwo's announcement and release. Having secondary non-hanging-around-on-a-Smash-forum hobbies can really help the time fly.

Trust me, I'm as excited as anyone. He's my most-wanted and I'm chomping at the bit to learn him and I can't wait to see who else makes it, but this level of pouring salt directly into your veins has gotta.be unhealthy.

The "stipulations" can't be proven one way or the other, and would have likely been the same case even if it was a different character.

Also the release date isn't exactly needed, we were told "before the end of April" for a reason.

That and all the other P5 news this month adds up perfectly, we just refuse to believe it until the explicitly say it.
we know that it's coming by the end of april

that's concrete enough for me imo
Not for me I guess. Another thing where I’m the abnormal freak of the boards.

“Coming in April” doesn’t mean anything. You can’t start building hype until you know when to start the clock. If he just drops tomorrow than there was no buildup. If he drops at the end of the month same day as the direct showing him off, there’s no hype. Because there was no buildup. Only frustrated screaming through a drought.

Release dates and audience hype are a careful dance and Nintendo doesn’t even know the steps. ESPECIALLY when it comes to DLC. Look at NeatherRealm or Iron Galaxy for an example of people who are goddamn masters at it and you can understand why.

Gonna be laughing when Nintendo hits y'all with the 'never reveal anything and hope people just forget about the dlc' manoeuvre.

Mewtwo was 2 months longer though.

To be fair, this was all handled poorly. Nintendo kind of made it seem like we'd be getting characters consistently within the year, and the fact that we had to wait 5 months for a new one (not counting Piranha Plant) does kinda suck. But it kinda seems like it's out of their hands at this point. I think the complaints are a little unwarranted, but we are most likely getting a brand new mode for free, so give credit where it's due.

The problem with the whole “this is the same wait time as Mewtwo” thing is that was during Sm4sh’s lifecycle, four years ago.

If I'm not mistaken, its almost midnight over at Japan, I probably wouldn't really count on a Direct announcement at this point...
I wasn't expecting a direct so much as hoping for one, haha. But people say 7 A.M. Pacific time is when Nintendo of America tends to drop direct announcements. That's the reason it came up.

Serious question:

I got one of those “scam” ads after clicking a link here. Is there a place to report it?

Every time Netherrealm announces a DLC character, though, it's given without a date.

You're comparing their buildup to their actual game, MK11, to Nintendo's handling of DLC. But the way they announced their season passes and individual fighters is a more direct comparison. And they're similar.

Hell, people complained about an MK11 "drought" when Netherrealm didn't announce anything at E3, only to be pleasantly surprised when it was announced in December with an April release instead. That's a very similar time frame to Ultimate, from its E3 trailer to launch.
