To add to this, while I may have Resident Evil on my mind because I played the 2 remake, and am now playing the original remake, I recalled that the Resident Evil games have been released on the Switch eShop, but the announcement wasn’t made into a big deal.

While there’s nothing to back this, consider the potential reveal of Resident Evil 7 and/or 2 Remake on Switch. It’s a perfect opportunity to say, “Oh, by the way...”

This isn’t necessarily just to shoe horn Resident Evil with Leon in Smash or something, but I do think the idea is worth considering.

Thoughts? Could we have something here with “Character as Smash DLC = Promotion with Switch release”?

Resident Evil 7 is actually already on the Switch. But it's a streamed version of the game and exclusive to Japan.

Capcom developers/reps have said on multiple occasions that they don't believe the Switch can handle running the RE Engine (the proprietary game engine developed in house by Capcom and used for RE7, RE2make and DMC5). This makes an official international release of any of these games on the Switch unlikely without committing major resources to remake and tone down the games for inferior hardware.

That said, Resident Evil is getting three overpriced digital releases on Switch shortly before E3, as you mentioned. It's getting a rebooted film series produced my Netflix. There are credible rumors that not only are RE8 and RE3make in active development, but RE3make is due as early as January 2020 and Capcom's current plan is to annualize RE by using remakes and spinoffs in between major numbered releases for the foreseeable future. Even if Capcom isn't trying to market directly to Switch owners to by RE games on the Switch, they stand to gain plenty from introducing the 12+million Smash owners and enthusiasts to their most lucrative franchise, both for the guaranteed sales of that DLC and for the prospect of new fans for their coming releases in various media.

A Resident Evil rep in Smash is hardly guaranteed and I know I'm biased, but if Nintendo approached Capcom for a DLC character and Capcom had a say in what character would be used, I don't think it's a stretch to say they would push a RE rep. It only stands to benefit them and push their highest selling franchise (by a long mile).

Togami was pretty good. My favorite DR1 character was Kirigiri, though, with Fukawa as a close second.

And for NDRV3, can't go wrong with Kirumi.
