I'd rather just keep 06 there instead. I honestly couldn't get into another Modern game before Lost World after I played 06(though Black Knight was fun, I wasn't a fan of Secret Rings). Though I only could try the 3DS version of Generations, and it wasn't exactly great. I'm at least giving the Wii version of Unleashed a try, but the 360 version had beyond awful gameplay with the Tails stages. Also wasn't a fan of the Day Stages, which were very uncontrollable at times coupled with bad level design. It doesn't exactly help if you had any trouble with the Mach Speed sections in 06(though none of the other gameplay gave me any real issues in the game. I mean, sure, the loading was awful, but I enjoyed everything that wasn't mach speed or forced scrolling).Let's agree on Sonic has good and bad games before and after it and that game doesn't exist.
I get why people didn't like the game, but everything modern after that was hardly super great. Generations is a bit overrated too at times. They need to really do a better job on the Day Stages as is. You're too fast and the level designs have you run into enemies too often. The boost system is too hand-holding at times, and the lock-on for homing is way too slow that it messes with the flow of the speed you have. It's true that previous games the homing attack could sometimes miss, but it still transitioned fast enough to not mess with the current flow of Sonic's speed(which was never way too fast either). It's very unbalanced as of now. Beyond that, I'd like a Modern game without Classic Sonic again. That also means no 2D gameplay by default. They have neat ideas for Modern, but either shoehorn Classic Sonic(or its style) in or never actually improve on a good system. Parkour was an amazing idea for Lost World, but they never made an attempt to make it better. They didn't try to improve on the Wisps either. Generations made the Modern gameplay a lot more smooth than Unleashed or Colors, at least(if you're playing the console versions).
