-I know, but it just shows I am pretty bland.
-It is supposed to be a gag.
-I tend to type formally.
Uhh, people do dislike me.
I am being blunt as well. Thank you for the advice.
I don't think anyone dislikes you. And I don't think there's anything wrong with the way you type. But the first point is something I'd like to address.
I made it into the creative writing program at my college a couple years ago. Only 15 people get accepted per semester. About a hundred people apply. But one of the teachers I had for an earlier creative writing class was the one who sort of administrated the review and selection for the program.
Apparently, she said that a lot of applicants would say things like "I'm a good writer," or "Here's why you should pick me," or "I'm so smart," etc. Basically, there were many applicants who would boast about themselves and act like they were incredibly talented. Those people never get picked. All that communicates is that you're narcissistic and full of yourself.
Now, you're not narcissistic like that (I don't think). But labeling yourself as an "intellectual" communicates a sense of superiority and "I'm so smart" that's offputting to people, because that kind of thing is usually done by narcissists. It's fine to share your interest in intellectual things, but promoting that you're an "intellectual" conveys a different sentiment. I don't think most true intellectuals go around telling other people that they're intellectuals.
Instead, just be you, and let your personality and thoughts speak for themselves. If you really are smart, people will acknowledge that naturally.
But telling other people how smart you are just comes off as boastful and self-absorbed. Which I know isn't your intent, but that's how it might come across to people. Because there are a lot of people out there who like to tell others how intelligent they are, and no one likes that.
