I wish I was there to hear him say that. but I'm sure he said it out of anger. he didn't expect to lose hax, so he took it hard.

in his defense though, he DID have and hangover and a broken hand. at least he didn't john about it.

I know I'm late to the party, but I have a few comments on tio's capabilities, just so everyone is educated and clear on what the program can and cannot do.
  1. You can create more than one unique bracket from the same set of pool results. As a few have correctly guessed, tio arbitrarily assigns the top players in each pool the #1, 2, 3, etc seeds, and then goes from there.

  2. You can swap people around a bracket that's been generated from pool results, however you run the risk of putting two players from the same pool against each other in the bracket. tio's "promote winners" feature has two primary goals:
    • Place players in the bracket according to their performance in their pool (i.e. 1 seed vs 4 seed, 2 seed vs 3 seed first round).
    • Separate players from the same pool so that they are unlikely to meet in the bracket. The 2 seed from pool X is placed on the exact opposite position as the 1 seed from pool X; seeds 3 and 4 are placed in the other two quarters, with 4 nearer to seed 1 and 3 nearer to seed 2.
Moving players around is going to mess with that balance. It's a risk you need to be aware of if you're going to mess with the bracket.

  3. Applying any sort of "separate by location" scheme to a bracket generated from pool results creates an unsolvable system. There's simply too many constraints when you add location as a consideration in addition to the above rules. The system becomes unsolvable from a mathematical (and, thus, programming) standpoint, though obviously a human can still do a decent job of it.

  4. It is a bad idea to give higher ranks to #1 pool seeds who have a better record in their pool compared to another #1 seed from a different pool. Although we assume that All Pools are Created Equal, this of course is not the case and giving players extra weight because they had an easier pool is silly. Players should be ranked solely on how well they do within their own pool, as each pool is a self-contained unit with no outside influences. This is just my opinion, of course, and not something I can prove mathematically or whatnot, so I welcome other opinions if they vary.

Just wanted to add that. Because knowledge is half the battle...

Thanks for that helpful information, neal.

With that said, we should decide whether or not we should just take out the rule about the crew seedings, or have a go at messing with the bracket after pools? I think the latter eliminates the point a bit, and I agree with neal's point 4.

Mess with the bracket a little and just swap 3rd seeds for 3rd seeds, so on and so forth. It's not too bad.

Since tio works like that.. and we separate crews in Pools then isn't it going to make crew mates play in brackets most likely with no maniupation of the bracket?

yes it would. just throwing ideas out there, putting crew members in the same pool would have the opposite effect. the crews would end up seeding themselves in pools. They would match up with the other crews based on whatever seed they got.

Yeah and if everyone makes it out of the pool.. or nearly everyone, then having 2 members or something in the same pool isn't that horrible, which is good if you have close to no chance of playing them in brackets.

according to the circuit rankings for teams, it says I didn't make the cut..

how is that when I've placed, 4th, 5th, and 9th.. lolz??

I'm probably just misunderstanding something, but I'm pretty sure my record is better than someone's in the top 15.

The whole game looks to completely suck lol, hopefully they change it between demo > real game. Otherwise I'll just end up playing it as a "for fun" game. Unless ink dropping can really be utilized.

I think you are jumping to conclusions Tim. The game actually sounds to me like its going to have a lot of metagame, just like its predecesors. (I made sure I spelled that one right for Scar, lol.) I personally think that Melee was a fluke, and Brawl will be considered lesser by most people, but I think that its very possible for it to make it into the tournament world and be more than just "for fun"

nothing wrong with a 'for fun' game
Not at all, I'll have fun with it.

Doubt it unless they change stuff from demo to real game, however it'd be cool if i was proven wrong.

Hey guys, the last smashacre was crazy, I was there for like a little bit, I was going to enter but the second I saw M2K come in, I got the **** out. I haven't had that much practice since KDJ so M2K probably would of embarrased me. Anyway, what is with that Starzonedge guy? He trying to steal my name? Omg I even saw his alien *** pick his nose and try to shake people hands.

I might want to challange you to a money match after EGGM and so on. Not sure if it will be good for my health though.
(No offense Sarsonedge :p)
