Yeah, Lunatic isn't really that hard, just guard a lot, do BnB and shoot projectiles.
Clarification, if I upgrade a skill, will it stay upgraded through all the rounds, or just the one? Does the deck replenish if the effect doesn't linger?

The effects stay with you for the entire match (all the rounds). Following on, the deck doesn't replenish itself between rounds; you have that deck for the entire match. Therefore it's usually good to get the skill set you need as quick as possible before you start using too many Spell Cards.

this game is amazing
it runs on my laptop which refuses to play recettear at full fps
also i can clear lunatic arcade with patchouli without dropping a stock (my hardest opponent is mirror match lol), maybe ill pick up someone else

I'm pretty sure it came out Dec 2010, but English patch will take years.

Is Alice the puppet girl? If so I don't really want to, from what I've seen EVERY SINGLE ONE of my attacks goes straight through hers, even my goddamn book slap beats out half her stuff. Is there a tier list for this game? I'm not going to tier-*****, but I do want to know where Patchouli is.

Yeah, she's the puppet girl, and she'll **** up your spacing of all other characters She's all about baiting and trapping, and she's got an awesome wakeup game, but she's not as good as Suika/Sakuya respectively in those fields.

what use do high jump cancels really have
so far all ive used them for is cancelling grounded bullet spam into aerial bullet spam, which beats up cpus handily
im sure there's something else to them

The majority of the people in the irc channel #mb-au only play soku these days. They sounds like they know their stuff if you want to hit them up for netplay.

HJCs are necessary in some combos, but they're also incredibly useful if you whiff an attack as not only does it cut the recovery frames down significantly, the high jump itself grazes bullets in the start frames, so you can use it to escape bad situations well. Offensively, it's used for some combos (the easiest one I know of is Reisen's corner BnB which IIRC is 5AAA --> B Bullet --> C Bullet --> HJC aerial B --> aerial C)
I imagine it's more useful for lower tier characters who have frame disadvantages in a lot of match ups. At least I seem to use it more often when I play Alice and Suwako... I'm not sure if Patchouli would find it useful offensively.

IDK, the artwork is good, but they look nothing like the original characters (except Alice ) which is a little offputting. Then again, if I look at it objectively it looks good
