Yeah, I wish there was more diversity, but to be frank most people have more Mario games and, ergo, connect or enjoy them more

Everywhere.
Toad is literally the only Mario character worthy of a spot left. I love Waluigi to death but until he is in something other than a sports game or a party there is no way that would work.

Dr Mario didn't take dev time away from any other character and is basically Melee Mario.

Yoshi only deserves Kamek as another rep. I think Kamek deserves a spot, if for nothing else to beef up the Yoshi roster. Also Kamek is the only option for a Yoshi rep.

Wario could actually use another character, Mona or something probably.

Okay, I will me honest and say that it is justified that Mario may get a slight advantage over other Nintendo franchises.
It is fact that Mario is probably one of if not THE most iconic video game franchise of all time.
But notice the underlining of the word 'slight'.
Smash Bros, a series meant to represent ALL of Nintendo, not just their most famous mascot. Say what you want to say about Super Mario being the face of Nintendo, this series could be responsible for saving gaming as a whole for all I care but at the end of the day, it would still have to play by the rules. Super Smash Bros is a dream battle between Nintendo franchises(with Guest Stars as an exception). It never was and never will be just another Mario spin-off. This game is an opportunity for all Nintendo franchises to get recognition, respect, honor, and love. Mario is the most famous out of all of them( It's only rival being Pokémon), but that does not mean that the Super Mario series should get all of the fame and glory at the expense of other important Nintendo franchises. MAYBE a slight advantage, but not a major one. THE best character game in history only possible by(arguably) the company with the best characters:Mario is only one franchise out of the hundreds and thousand...It's Super Smash Bros, not Mario and All Stars Fighting Transformed:troll:

(Before you ask, I don't hate the SEGA Superstars franchise, in fact I am not only a big fan of it(especially ASRT), but a big SEGA fan. The problem is, Sega isn't Nintendo. The only franchise that they own with Star Power is Sonic. The others either died out, faded into obscurity, or were never continued. Unfortunately, Sega has to rely on the brand name of Sonic to sell games about Sega as they prefer to make new franchises than continuing older ones. In those games defense, they need Sonic if they want the series to sell. Nintendo has plenty of iconic franchises while Sega let's their own die while milking their cash cow:ohwell:)

Am I the only one that thinks that Rosalina, Wario, and Bowser Jr were the wastes of time and Dr Mario was not? It takes sooooo much time to develop the first three when, in reality, that could have been time to represent the other franchises. Dr. Mario, on the other hand, is a random slap-in that takes very little time to develop, thus not taking time away from characters who need representation like Ice Climbers or Lucas.

Let me put it into perspective

Brawl Roster

Metroid got 1 new rep, Mario got a new rep and lost a clone, Zelda got a new rep and lost one, Pokemon lost 2 but gained 4, Stafox gained 1, Donkey Kong gained 1, 2 new kirby reps, fe got a newcomer and lost one, earthbound got a newcomer, 2 retros, 2 3rd party characters and 1 brand new series. Out of the cuts only 1 was unique and substantial with Mewtwo. Brawls roster was amazing and fair. Only the foolish complained (and ridley/mewtwo fans).

39 - 22 (Pure Clones arent used as counting towards melee's roster)

Net Gain 17 more characters

1 unique character lost

Small dev team, and had time issues.

Smash 4 Roster

Lets compare Mario got 3 new reps, Pokemon got 1 lost 2, Kid icarus got 2 new reps, Fire Emblem got 2 new reps, 2 new 3rd parties -1 reps, Starfox loses -1 rep, Earthbound loses -1 rep, 1 new retro -1 retro, 3 custom characters, 4 new series reps. All 7 cuts were unique characters.

Yea this roster sure is fair and balanced  The data speaks for itself.

48 - 39

Net gain: 9 characters

7 unique character cuts (including mewtwo)

Smash 4 had a big development team and more time than brawl.

No lol, Mario could have had half the roster and it still wouldn't be to much.

Since Doc was a last minute clone, I'm not counting him here. So six is a perfect number for Mario in my eyes.
