Wow, the analogy you just gave was actually supporting him, Ness probably would have been the best character in Paper Mario, that and the Yoshi one works, sort of because Yoshi could just eat the other characters, either killing them instantly or encasing them in some sort of egg. So by the way YOUR LITERARY DEVICES SUCK AS DOES YOUR WHOLE POST IN GENERAL.

How is this comparable to Ness in Paper Mario or Yoshi in Fire Emblem? Smash isn't abot charcters wwho can fight, it's about Nintendo All-Stars (And recently, some special VIP's from other series) fighting, who gives a crap if they don't "fit in". Anybody easily fits in Smash.

I bet you think Mr. Game and Watch and others of the like are useless too.

Good point HMBG, but again not just ANYBODY can fit into Smash - there needs to atleast be some POTENTIAL for combat, in which case Nook's severely lacking in... or anyone from AC for that matter, since the game is non-combative in nature...

The only previous battle experience peach had was turnips and floating.
Yoshi had only eaten things and thrown eggs.
Zelda did no fighting whatsoever, they gave her link's magic spells and made up sheik moves.
fox and falco only flew ships and fired pistols.
And the ice climbers just kinda climbed stuff.

The only thing most of the characters had was SLIGHT battling history, and nintendo fame.

Tom Nook has plenty of Nintendo fun, and he does threaten to sent the racoon squad after you.

Also we've shown that he can at leas fight a little. He's got potential and you know it. Shovels, axes, nets, balls, villagers, furniture, umbrellas, plenty of stuff

They all still belong to games "combative in nature" which AC is not - and despite their lack of moves, they still had the end result of KILLING things... Also, Zelda and Sheik are the SAME person and if she could fight as Sheik, than it is implied she can also fight as Zelda - not to mention she did help you kill Ganon in OoT... Again I stress Potential, not necessarily proven experience. And lastly items do not necessarily equal potential, especially since it was the AC villager that ACTUALLY made use of them, not Nook.

Sorry but if you really want to discredit my points, you'll have to do better than that... :p

I realize that sheik and zelda are the same person, that's why I put them on the same line. And the only thing Zelda did to help was give you the light arrow. Handing someone in item is not combative in nature (altho i may have just injured my nook argument by saying that.) But she did not fight as sheik either, she just told u stuff, played music, and then ran away.

Right now i'm too lazy to think of anything better than that. I dunno. Maybe I'll just make an entire moveset for Old Mr. Nook later on. Seeing as how he only has B moves right now.

She also held him down with her magic so that you could successfully fire the arrow in the first place - that's what I was refering to. And while Sheik was never shown engaging anythin on screen, still it was heavily implied (check out some of the official artwork) that she did have high combative potential.
Game, watch, discussion over, etc, etc.
In the G&W game Green House (1982) he KILLS giant insects (where the bug spray comes from) and in Lion (1981) he fights off lions with a chair (where that move comes from) and in Judge (1980) he duals another Mr. G&W with a hammer (where his B forward comes from), just to name a few instances that prove otherwise.
In short: YOU PHAIL...

ok so she has the power to use golden light to hold down the king of evil. That was not incorporated at all into melee. She got the fairy spells which actually are used by link not her.

And just cuz sheik looks like she COULD fight doesnt mean she can.

Actually if you wanna get specific, Tom Nook isn't a racoon, he's a Tanuki. A Tanuki is a canine like raccon found in Japan but more importantly has been a part of the countrys folklore for hundreds of years. The Tanuki has the ability to shapeshift, and uses leaves specifically as part of their transformation magic, eg; Nook turning goods from his store into leaves for easier transport. The tanuki has been used in Nintendo before, as the "Tanooki Suit"
used in Super Mario 3, gave you the ability to transform into a stone statue that renders mario both invincible, and grants the ability to kill most any eemy by landing/touching them while in motion. The "Racoon Suit" if you'll notice is gained by picking up a leaf, which, at the risk of repeating myself, is a magical artifact to the Tanuki. Seeing as how we know that Sakurai LOVES "Old School" and also that the Japanese sneak in (subliminally of course) bits and pieces of their culture, I think that it is entirely feasible for him to be in Brawl as he holds great value in Japanses society, and is an integral part of their folklore and history.

Ice Climbers etc etc.
The Ice Climbers have those big freakin' hammers, wherein there's alot of potential as far as asskickery goes - and if you had actually play their game game, you would have seen they had put them to quite good use in that regard. Jeesh... can't you just concede defeat on this issue? :lick:

Granted that Zelda's little trick wasn't incorporated into SSBM, but my point was that she has displayed potential...

As far as Sheik's concerned, take a gander at this piece of official artwork:

I doubt that she's touting that knife just for show... Also keep in mind she DID use her smoke bomb in OoT.

Wow... an actual good reason to include Tom Nook... My hat off to ya Zombie Cola.

But you need to keep in mind people, Super Smash Bros. is a FIGHTING GAME not a party game like some seem to be deluded into believing. If there is no combative potential, proven or implied, it presents a serious problem in a character's inclusion. Granted there are other reasons (such as franchise representation, though AC is one probably better limited to a stage theme), but combative potential is key IMHO... I'll leave it at that.

OK lets get REALLY FRIGGIN TECHNICAL. The climbers essentially were eskimos surviving, they really didnt fight monsters per se, with the exception of the giant bird, and other than that they just hit animals found in the arctic, so no, they had no potential. They fought animals, regular animals.

Dude, Tom Nook has a ****in' axe, sure he mainly uses it for cutting down trees, where as the Ice Climbers hit blocks, and the occasional monster-like thing.

Also nothing they or GaW does is any worse than hitting random people with nets, being ravaged by bees and killing fresh water fish by throwing them into the ocean.

And by the way I brought up the whole Tanooki thing and it's implications such a long time ago:

Seeing as Tom Nook is a Tanuki, which can turn into statues, he could turn into one like Kirby does.

wow.... This thread got Omega Bumped!
That's just a small portion of my previous arguements, no offence Zombie.

That REALLY looks like fan art but w/e. I guess ur sorta right.

It wasnt really a smoke bomb. She like.. threw a deku nut and ran away.

And it didnt show her potential to fight it showed her potential to glow and hold things still while other people fight.

but why am i even arguing about this I like zelda in melee lol.

My whole point was that ANYONE can be turned into a fighting character.

And the tanuki argument has been used before. just not really as in depth.

And now that I think about it, captain falcon never did any fighting in his games (except in the anime. he uses falcon punch. but i'm not counting that right now.)

And tell me Mr. Mach Rider for brawl, how much fighting does a guy on a motorcycle do? is he gonna throw tires at the opponent?

So let's just agree that while nook may not show much potential in AC itself, he COULD be a fighter, and has enough nintendo cred for a brawl slot.

None taken man. However I want to point out that the Ice Climbers never fought monsters, the monsters were actually penguins in the original japanese release, but were later changed to the small furry beaked animals to avoid any "seal clubbing" anger. So they literally only fight animals found in nature.
