How can you see Scorpion's newcomer font if he's revealed? I envision they'd be friendly while maintaining spicy.

I can see "Scorpion Takes Flame" or "Scorpion Brings The Skull!"

Other mentions I see, spear, rivalry, heat and fist.
I think I prefer the tagline used in the Google Doc linked a few pages back of
Scorpion Prepares for Kombat!

I don't know how many of you have found this thread on Twitter, but after finding it about a week ago it had given me more hope that Scorpion could appear in Ultimate. Still can't say that I'm 100% certain that it will happen, but still gave me hope nonetheless.
I'm getting more confident in Scorpion by the day, I know Sakurai is aware of the character in some sense. Want to see that Newcomer font.

At the very least, the other creators of characters featured in Smash are aware of Mortal Kombat.

Such as Hideo Kojima taking a picture with Ed Boon
https://twitter.com/hideo_kojima_en/status/918122235017142273

Hideki Kamiya teasing a Bayonetta x Mortal Kombat crossover
https://twitter.com/pg_kamiya/status/1097832174856720389?lang=en

And Yoshinori Ono (the current producer of Street Fighter) has talked about Mortal Kombat on a number of occasions, even mentioning that the Street Fighter V story mode took inspiration from MKs.

While I dislike some of the things that are brought up in the tweet (mainly the current unproved and pervasive Smash theories, which honestly weren't necessary to support this case), it is at least good to know that fans in Japan still stick it to the rating board by importing recent MK entries, and even big JP creators know it, so Scorpion's support isn't as non-existent as detractors think it is.

I haven't really seen much fan art of Kirby dressed as Scorpion, so I wanted to try and draw my own version of it (as well as my second most wanted DLC character). Keep in mind however that it has been a while since I've used my tablet to draw and I was never the best at drawing.
We just want to support Scorpion, dude. It gives him more Smash exposure so its good. I'm really happy to see more discussions of Scorpion in Smash increasing.

Right, sorry. I make decisions without really thinking about it sometimes.

Neat. I still really would love to hear Kirby exclaim "Get over here!" in his best attempt to sound menacing. It's the small things like that which makes these crossovers fun.

I'm starting to wonder if Scorpion will feel like a weaker Captain Falcon. Scorpion is a stealthy based fighter, I think he will rely on his teleport. When you compare the two, Sub Zero is the powerhouse echo in terms of Smash attacks with his ice breaker punches in Shaolin Monks. Hopefully one of Scorpion's Smash attacks is a fire punch.

Scorpion would be a rushdown who can do well until mid-range because Spear can drag foes for combos.

Sub-Zero would be all about zoning with clones and ice balls, with sliding as a burst option to create space for further zoning

I'm going to assume Scorpion and Sub Zero will be barely like their Mortal Kombat counterparts. They will be heavily Smashified and nerfed.

I feel they'd be Smashified and nerfed too, but their overall archetype in Smash would still be similar to how it is in MK for an accurate portrayal, like how Ryu and Ken are similar to how they are in Street Fighter, with Ryu focusing on neutral and footsies and Ken being a more rushdown take on the Ryu moveset.

Hence why Sub-Zero would be a zoner while Scorpion would be a more versatile character with both rushdown elements (mostly tilts and aerials) and stuff that's more for reads and punishes (Spear, Flameport and probably Takedown too)

I think the general feel will be preserved. Obviously, the extreme violence would be toned down, but I feel his attacks will still have some weight to them. If Ridley's brutality can carry over to Smash without any issues, I don't see why Scorpion couldn't follow suit within Smash's acceptable level of violence.

I'm still having difficulties imagining Scorpion's Smash attacks, even after watching fan made movesets. :ohwell: Everything else is clear aside from his uppercut and hellfire for his down and up smash attacks.

Scorpion
Finishes it!
This only works if he's the very last fighter, imo

Make them sword moves. Surely, the Smash fans would love this. :^)

Also, I feel the uppercut would work best as an up tilt, but that's just me.
That or an Up Smash, since it's supposed to be immensely powerful.

I also wouldn't mind him using both swords at once in some moves or combinations, like throws.

Another thing that'd be neat is using both of his Spears(which is one of the few good things that the second movie gave us).

Swords are waaaay too overused. I know its contradiction speaking, but fists are naturally apart of us so you can't really use an argument against it.

It became "Lets use swords because its cool" with how Scorpion originally didn't use swords.

I rather see Scorpion used them in a more casual sense, down tilt, air tilt.

I'm do too. I'd be happy just to have Scorpion alone, but the two are best as a package deal. It wouldn't be hard at all to tweak Scorpion's kit to make a Ken-like echo with a couple of unique moves (a precedent Chrom already set).

It's not that complicated. :ultryu:'s toolkit includes moves from more than one SF installment, so it stands to reason that the same could be done for Scorpion.
That's actually a good point. A lot of his moves are from SF2, but there's still like his fsmash and Focus Attack that were introduced later on.

Considering how there's 11 mainline games in MK, I don't think it'd be that hard to fill some gaps with Scorpion.

Scorpion has plenty to work with for his attacks, both with or without a weapon. I image some of the more iconic moves, such as his specials or the uppercut, are must-haves, but they could take different animations from the later games for some of the others and I doubt anybody would mind.

On an unrelated note, I just finished a survey on Nintendo.com and when asking the kinds of games I played, it listed Mortal Kombat (along with Street Fighter) as examples of fighting games. It's not really anything big, but it's good to see that the company, at least in the US, still views MK as one of the main faces of the genre, despite that they could have used their own Arms or Smash for this category's example.

Scorpion's Final Smash is what I'm starting to be incapable of visualizing.

If its just Scorpion taking off his mask and breathing fire across the stage, it could be generic. I want the mask to burn off his face.

Quan Chi shows a vision of whoever Scorpion’s Smash opponent is killing his family and clan, and naive angry specter man believes the vision and does the most dramatic toasty we never saw, because MK9’s story didn’t completely show it.

Yeah, I don’t know, but they could definitely give toasty a bit more flare as a final smash somehow beyond what we usually see it as.

Here's how I visualize Toasty working.

When activated, Scorpion will exclaim, "Come here!" (with the echo filter like other Final Smash voice clips) and send out two spears, as opposed to the single spear from his special attack so it's visually and audibly different. During this animation, Scorpion is invincible and cannot be hit. The spears travel a little farther than Simon's Forward Smash and grabs on contact should it connect with its target anywhere between its starting or ending point. Should the spears not connect with their target before reaching their maximum distance, they will fall limp and retract to Scorpion, after they fully retract, Scorpion will become vulnerable again.

Should the spears meet their target however, they will immediately grab that character and bring it to Scorpion. The spears act as a command grab and cannot be blocked, unlike the special attack version in which they can like in the arcade games. Also on contact, the screen will have a red fiery filter over it to make the background appear on fire. Once the target pulled to Scorpion, the screen will zoom in on them while the Fatality jingle (either MK9 or MKX would work) plays with the phrase "Finish Him!" (or "Her" or "It" depending on the character) is both displayed on the screen in the classic MK text and spoken by the MK announcer. The collected character will stand in front of Scorpion caught in the dazed/dizzy animation as Scorpion forcefully yanks his mask off, revealing the flaming skull. Scorpion then starts breathing fire downward at his target's feet which quickly begins rising until the target is completely obscured by the fire. The fire deals about 50% of damage before the Final Smash ends in one of two ways.

If the target's damage at the end of the Final Smash is at or above 100%, the character will immediately be despawned (with the despawn sparkles visible like other Final Smashes that instantly remove a character) and that player loses the stock. Scorpion then puts on his mask and holds his fist in the air triumphantly as the phase "Fatality!" is both displayed on the screen and spoken by the MK announcer. If that phrase is too "mature" for Smash Bros's rating, the phrase "Flawless Victory!" could be used instead. After that, the fire effects cease, the camera zooms back out and Scorpion returns to his idle animation, becomes vulnerable and the player regains control of hi.

However, if the target's damage is less than 100% by the end of the Final Smash, the target character will be launched forward at a 45 degree angle with about as much knockback as a semi-charged Smash Attack. As this happens, an image of Dan Forden will pop in the lower right corner of the screen in front of everything (the same depth layer screen KOs would impact) as the phrase "Toasty!" is both displayed on screen and spoken in his falsetto voice. He'd then immediately slide back of the right side of the screen, the fire effects would cease, the camera zoom out and Scoprion return to his standard playable operations.

Do we need a new op? I figured we should have a more quality op by this point.

I dobut that it will happen, but it'd be cool if Scorpion was announced at EVO. Bit for this response due to EVO being over, and then making announcements as I'm making this post.

EVO is too soon for Scorpion. It will either happen as the last Fighters Pass or nay.

It isn't impossible for him to still have a chance to be Number 4 either, we wouldn't have a way of knowing when negotiations could have started, if they were to go for the character at all, so it could have happened back when 11 was still in the works for all we know.

Just for curiosity's sake, if Scorpion were to be added in Smash, where do you think he would be on the mural? If I were to make a guess, I would like to think he would be placed around here:

Possibly with his rope dart extended while his back is facing the screen.
