How's everyone doing this fine day?

I apparently missed a notification for this thread, since stuff hasn't been popping up in my notifications.

Pretty good so far my friend! Yourself?

Also I admit that I was tempted by the 3DS version as well for Treasure Tracker (having a pocket version of Captain Toad seems almost too perfect!) though so many titles to look forward to this year (including CT:TT for Switch and Smash!).

I'm sure I'll pick up the 3DS version someday if my wallet permits. :p

God, I have so many titles to pick up soon and not enough money to get all of them.

Tropical Freeze, Star Allies, Treasure Tracker, Smash (ofc), Prime 4, Fire Emblem 2018, Yoshi, Pokemon...

Yes sir, we've got quite the year (and upcoming year!) to look forward to for sure. You've just reminded me of how much we potentially have to look forward to. :p As well as with e3 being just around the corner!

I'm quite curious to see how the other Odyssey stages will play out in Treasure Tracker as well. Who knows, perhaps this wonderful piece from Kinopio-Kun from Nintendo's official Line app might make a reappearance? ;)

Just saying that there may be at least 2 stages for every Kingdom in Treasure Tracker or at least 2 stages for some of them.

The Power Plant from New Donk City is also confirmed unless that ties in with the other stage we already know about.

So are we thinking Toad's axe will be his smash attacks or some kind of special move? I could see it go either way, so I'm conflicted.

i was hoping captain toad would sign the next theme song

what im hoping for in the new version of treasure tracker is for the ruined kingdom to appear as a stage similar to a draggadon stage but with the ruin dragon

Personally I was looking at it for smash attacks (and a few others) but I feel it could just as easily be a special.

Hell some have suggested it be a final smash but it seems a little underpowered to me to be the Final Smash...

I was thinking Toad Brigade or Draggodon as a final smash. Or something gem related.

Captain Toad summoning Draggodon for a FS would be hilarious - prob wouldn't want to mess with the little Captain Toad at this point with such a big ally. XD

Perhaps a turnip cannon can also be considered to fire turnips vertically up eventually causing a barrage of turnips to rain downwards onto the stage. Or even a Wingo summon could be neat as well imo.

In regards to the new leak, I'm just going to take it with a grain of salt - e3 is around the corner so we'll know of what's to come real soon. Best to stay optimistic!

Yeah, Toad's chances are actually pretty good all things considered. He's like Bandana Dee, in that he's continually become more popular over time and has gained a pretty big role in his respective series, so as much as I want some different Mario characters to appear, if you broke my fingers and made me say which Mario character would be the most likely to get into the new Smash, I'd say Toad. (Not that I don't want Toad to not appear. It's just...... well, I don't care one way or the other, no skin off my bones either way).

Toad certiantly does have moveset potential, though. Based off his appearances and stats in games like Super Mario Bros 2, Super Mario 3D World, and the other times he's had starring roles (purposely not counting Captain Toad, who I consider to be a separate character entirely), I'd see Toad as a hardcore glass cannon, being both fast and hitting like a tank (like Captain Falcon), but at the same time, he's a lightweight who has poor jumping height and an abysmal recovery; basically, he can end you fast, but you can end him just as fast.

I saw but was a bit confused why this one was deemed credible in any shape or form?

Samurai Goroh/Porky whilst my favourites from their particular series raise my eyebrows quite a lot as well as some questionability.
That's what I was curious about as well. What makes this leak more credible than any of the other leaks we've had so far?

Also seems rather unusual to have this many characters leaked all at once (especially considering how quiet the game's development has been, seems odd to have this much info to be even be revealed to those in the field). Not gonna question the character choices as Sakurai is quite the trickster, but it still seems super strange.

Outside of that, there is this other leak from Reddit on the main thread earlier as well that does have Captain Toad in it...:

https://www.reddit.com/r/smashbros/comments/8md4b4/super_smash_bros_for_switch_leaks_characters/

Taking it with a grain of salt; however, I do like the ideas this user posted with Captain Toad being a "trapper/set-up character who excels at controlling the stage". Additional info includes: fights with minecarts and treasure stars along with a final smash featuring Draggadon.

Asked around, apparently there's nothing credible about it. People have just jumped on it because it has fan favourites like K. Rool and Ridley in it. That's pretty much it.

This gameplay style sounds eerily similar to what my thoughts were for the Captain...but again, not putting any stock in it yet unless there's some sort of proof.

Here are all Mario Tennis Aces special shots.

Toad's is kinda crappy, where he bounces on his head and seems to perform a roll.
[Timestamp: 3:15]

Toadette's however is very interesting, being the return of the Mario Sports Mix "bouncy mushrooms". Toadette summons a few mini-mushroom trampolines and jumps off of them before sending the ball flying.
[Timestamp: 2:43]

Since Mushroom Trampolines also appeared in 3D World, I think this power would be fun to use in Smash Bros by Toad

Hmm...so you're telling me that we can have Captain Toad jump in Smash...by simply bouncing off his head? I mean, Toad's head does kinda work like a trampoline in Aces, so perhaps a head bounce might negate the weight of the Captain's pack? :p

But aside from that, Toad's special shot does look underwhelming compared to Toadette's. The rotating mushrooms from Mario Sports Mix from Toad's special does look quite similar to the mushroom platforms that Toadette spawns indeed. Would be nice to have some shroom related abilities aside from the spore counter attack that Toad already has as Peach's meat shield.

Maybe even some bouncy mushroom platforms like in the NSMB/SM3DL/W games to work as a recovery/jump animation for the Captain?

It does serve as a nice reference to the Power Squat jump from Super Mario Bros 2

I hadn't thought of that till right now, but you're quite right as the jump does have a windup till Toad jumps higher into the air.

Kinda wish Toad got something a little more flashier as a special shot (other toads throwing him into the air or maybe using the propeller block/hat or even spawning shroom platforms too), but hey least he looks adorable while doing so. ;) Toad certainly looks happy as usual too (though still surprised they just gave him just a head bounce for a special shot D: ).

To be honest I think we can take a couple liberties with Captain Toad. I mean, the reason he can't jump in Treasure Tracker is because of his heavy backpack, so maybe if he can use items in his backpack for attacks it can get lighter and allow him to jump, or if he drops it for an up-B or something he'd be able to jump without it?

It's a tough case being a Toad fan, personally have been awaiting for Toad's chance of being playable since the Melee days. He had it rough during the pre-Brawl days, but I'm glad to see the Toads getting more active roles in the series since the Wii era.

As someone who grew up with seeing Toad in active roles like SMB2, Wario's Woods and being heavily featured alongside the other 7 major Mario characters in various media and spinoffs - it was a delight to finally see Toad being playable in the platformers again as well as Captain Toad's own game announcement. But as Pacack mentioned, Toad has a very good resume now even compared to the past - especially via Captain Toad being a relatively charming character that many are quite fond of as opposed to the whole generic issue Toad had over recent years.

Every character has their flaws, and while I too feel Toad is overdue for Smash - hopefully Sakurai changes his view on Toad. It's true, some view him as nothing more than a generic NPC or even boring as a character - but I still do believe our lovable fungi has a chance this time around (most of his big competition is now in the game already, it's just a matter of Sakurai noticing him). Toads have been on a rise in importance in recent titles and it seems...wrong to not have a representative for everything Toad-esque in the series as of yet (literally a walking embodiment of the Mario logo - the mushroom!). I do still want my classic SMB2/SM3DW battle featuring the four heroes of Mario, Luigi, Peach and Toad tbh (or the 8 player match featuring the Mario Big 8 if this mode returns :p).

Also Toadette alts (ala Robin/Corrin/Villager/WFT) are something I fully expect at this rate too. More Toads, the better!

Best-case scenario to me would be getting Toad as the default, with the 5 different-colored toads a the alts (red/blueyellow/green/purple), and then Toadette and Toadsworth, and then Captain Toad as an alt costume set (with the 5 different-color toads representing the rest of the Toad Brigade), with "Captain Toadette" (in reality Archivist Toadette, but whatever for sake of simplicity), and "Captain Toadsworth" (which isn't a thing but I actually really kinda want it to be).

Just having Toad or just having Captain Toad does a disservice to the character considering he represents both one of the most relevant Nintendo All-Stars not currently in the game as well as one of the most well-known races in video gaming. Yeah, most people think that Captain Toad will obviously be the one in just because he has his own game under that moniker, but he was Toad first and he's more well-known as Toad, and using Toad with Captain Toad as an alt costume set allows you to pull from so much of his history in all the Mario games rather than just limiting him to his CT persona and making that central to his character in Smash (which isn't unwarranted or undeserved, but it pushes the "CT can't jump!" thought forward and that really needs to preferably be sidestepped entirely).

I'm really rooting for him, I know we're starting to get "leaks" which all seems to be going for crazy top-tier wants and flashy-unexpected newcomers and ignoring actual all-stars like Toad and Isabelle who legitimately don't have a reason to not be in the game at this point, but there's so much going for Toad this time that I high hopes. There's starting to be doubt, but I'm still pressing forward for my most-wanted newcomer!

BRIGADE! ASSEMBLE!

I've finished my Captain Toad moveset! It's animated!

I know we've all talked about giving the Captain small jumps but I thought I'd try and see if a NO JUMP moveset was even vaguely feasible.

Check it out and give me feedback. Feel free to share this on social media too and to anyone you think it'd benefit!

those moveset idea and that animation are great, nice touch with the princess shroob toadette

the potted piranha plat as a grab rings a bell, has one of us suggested that idea before?

I think at least three of the brigade had mentioned it before/come up with it seperately. Seemed like a natural fit since Captain Toad is known for using his enemies to help him advance(and he also actually used it in the bonus levels).

Draggadon ended up beating Starshroom in the poll I did hence it's Final Smash inclusion here. Decided to give it a twist with the Double Cherry!

I have only seen part of this. I wasn't able to finish it, but what I saw was neat! Your animation is so good! I am looking forward to finish watching it tonight!! Keep up the great work. (Also I subscribed to your channel to help show my support. :D)

Edit:
I finally got to watch the whole thing and I love the work and thought you put into it!
