both cars bailed man. i was super disappointed but i got over it and played from 2PM until midnight on saturday, then again for 3 hours today so not bad i guess.

You obviously don't need to play with top tier characters...
People usually play with characters who they find fun. People will find that characters they are good with will be fun. Top tiers are good. Top tiers are generally more fun than bad characters lol.
With the exception of pika kirby and mario, they are way more fun than playing with peach jiggs or sheik imo
