IDK if it is just based on frames, but TL isn't tall enough to force an air release on MK anyway. Not to mention that because TL has lol frame data, ground releasing MK actually puts us in a pretty bad position. If you get the grab your best option is most likely gonna be to just throw him anyway.

as archer said. but theres no reason to even attempt that. grab releases do depend on if the player grabbed feet are touching the ground. TL can not air release any chars at all without them mashing jump. just throw em.

Hi all. I've been going through a list of characters recently, looking for my new main, and I came across TL. I read the whole guide, and can really see myself playing TL. Camping doesn't bother me at all. I play to win, and MK is banned down here, so I see him being a good choice.

I must admit though... all the ATs scare me a bit. I mean, I'm not sure if I have to learn them all, or most, but it seems more time consuming than most other characters. However, I'm not saying that's stopping me from maining him. I like that he has a lot of options.

I'll start dropping by here when I can to say hey, and get to know you TL mains a little better.

If you can give me any advice as to how to get started with TL, then that would be most appreciated. :)

Don't focus on the ATs so much. I mean, they are obviously important but just learn the timing for each AT, apply it in game (against humans or CPUs) and then just play smart and do your thing.

Welcome to the TL boards :)

Quest, I accept your MM. Forgot to respond in the other thread

Alright, will do. Thanks for the welcome :)

I think what I'll do is learn all the 10/10 rated ATs first, and then work my way towards the lower rated ATs. I won't learn the 2-3/10 rating ATs until after I've learned all the more useful ones, and get to the point where I have more room to improve.

I look forward to learning him though.

Sadly, I won't be ready to use him for WABA. So I'll just pull my MK out for that one.

Yes, WABA will be streamed. So hopefully I don't embarrass myself to much by doing bad :p

Kingtoon and MJG will be there, so I'll try watching some of their matches when and if I can. :)

Hey Blindspot, welcome to the board. Enjoy your time with TL. AT's really aren't much to TL because he's the kind of guy who sets up combos. They are nice to know but don't always have much of a purpose. Just know how to your your projectiles accurately and effectively, go with the flow, and look like a pro.

I think the ats tl has are pretty substantial in his game. Perhaps not the super tecnical ones like BCAT but the simple ones like Zair with a
bomb, SHDA, and invinci-bombing are a must. Also learing how to move efficiently with items (bomb) is a large part or tinks camp game and evasiveness. All this will become second nature in time, and learning things like when to pull a bomb against mk, will come later.

If you have wifi, I can play you on a weekend. I can definitely guide you in the right direction with TL. You should watch some of my videos or those of MJG or Shadow1pj. Jerm's old videos are mostly still legit. Jash's and Hyro's videos are good for trying to learn basic projectile mixups but are too outdated to study intensely. Kingtoon's playstyle is radically different from most but you could benefit from watching his recent videos vs Bloodcross, Salem, False, etc. Try and study some videos while observing how we camp safely and how we avoid punishment by reacting to our opponents.

the techs that G-Dub listed are important. SHDA is a basic tech that you should be able to perform consistently, as a starting point for learning to quickdraw, but is generally unsafe. SHDA is, however, good for certain MUs like D3 or Snake. Practice the quickdraw, iBomb, and airdodge zair with bomb in hand. Most techs beyond that can just add to your options but are not going to win/lose you a match.

...except maybe bomb dropping/catching bombs with aerials for ledge stalling shenanigans...learn that too.

Thank you very much for the advice :)
I'll learn all of his useful techs first, and worry about the others later.

I'll also watch the videos you suggested. I'm sure they'll help a lot :)

Oh, and I don't really enjoy playing on wi-fi. Sorry. But I'll take in any advice you can throw my way :)

Play as much offline smash as you can and ask us a bunch of questions when you have them. You'll learn the techs in like a week, but you'll spend years maximizing your camp game.

I actually go to a smashfest every week, so I play often.

I would like to thank you all for being so kind towards me. I really feel welcome here :)

If I have any questions, I'll be sure to ask.

Yeah like the others said, some AT's are a must, and the rest are nice but, thats about it. And even if you don't like wifi much, I would still recommend it if you have a good connection as a way to get a lot of practice quickly.

btw, we still need to do 4 player toon link doubles. must happen

Yeah not all of us live in places like Alabama or California or New York where there are tourneys and smashfests every week lmao. I forget how spoiled you all are :glare:

You probably don't need wifi then, as long as you're playing good people like Reflex/Player 1/MCPE/whoever else is down there...

Yeah, we're soooo spoiled down here! :p

Btw, before I decide on a main (because I'm still just a little iffy) Don't want to rush into anything, then regret my decision later.

Could you think of 5-10 questions you could ask me, and then tell me which character you feel would fit me? I think that'd be the fastest way for me to choose my main.

I'm not new to smash, I'm just deciding to switch mains, and it's difficult to choose for me.

So yeah, before I get wrapped up into learning TL, I think making sure he's right for me would be best. So if you would, think of some questions to ask me. (Sorry I'm so difficult)

Well, question one: who was your main before?
Also you should think about your personal playstyle: are you offensively minded, defensive, do you like aerial-based characters or ground fighters etc.

My main was Pikachu, and I can play either offense or defense. Really depends on my mood. Either I'm salty, and want to play really aggro, or I'm really calm, and don't mind playing campy.

Also, I like either, but I prefer aerial.

To play tl well, you need infinite endurance to last deep into the bracket. Auto-pilot for tink is almost non-existent and matches lasting 6-8 minutes are common for many MUs. That being said, are you prepared to deal with long matches of keep away and defensive play for most of your tournament life?
if you are, and you find bomb tricks and projectile frame traps fun, i dont think you'll regret maining toon link.

I mean, I saw Jerm play, and he's really aggro with his TL. So I figured I could play both roles, depending on my mood.

Does YL typically always have to play campy? I don't mind it so much.. but I'm also an aggressive gamer. (Not like in person, but I mean as far as the game goes)
