This part:
"On the topic of different release dates for Super Smash Bros. on Wii U and 3DS, Sakurai mentions that this was for debugging, which was necessary to avoid there being considerable differences between the two versions. If both games had a shared release date, a launch in 2015 may have occurred."
Still hoping IC for wiiU

"Additionally, the team didn’t give the climbers a high priority since they’re unlikely to have another game installment anytime soon. Sakurai also discussed launching both 3DS/Wii U versions at the same time"
Thanks sakurai for put salt in the injury
He is saying this while he add Duck Hunter, keep R.O.B. and Mr game and watch
Thank goodness they are gone! Ice Climber's were never iconic or memorable like Duck Hunt Dog, R.O.B. or Mr. Game and Watch. They had one game that was fairly crappy and didn't play very well. The only reason people cared about them was because of Smash Bros. and even that wasn't enough for many people to give a crap, myself included. Obviously they have a following but most people I know don't give them a second thought. I'll give Ice Climber's this though, they had a unique move set..........until Rosalina and Luma came along :chuckle:

You went too far with that. Just because YOU didn't want them in doesn't mean no one else did. I don't even understand how this is even funny.

Rosalina and Luma is much different from Ice Climbers. For one thing, you can't just resummon a Nana when she's killed. Nor do they have the same moveset.

And this actually gives me a bit of hope, because it wasn't just problems with the 3ds, but also time issues, meaning potential DLC still

Also, R.O.B isn't really that iconic.

This "ROB" thing wasn't even released in the EU.

I get what you did there, though earthbound was already known before smash (though obviously not as much until smash).
I'd appreciate it if you'd realize the EU exists and we didn't get Earthbound officially until this year

EDIT: Scratch that, July LAST year

Wouldn't it make sense he didn't hear about it as wasn't the roster finalized in 2012?

God Ice climbers were the first Retro. Whats the point of adding Duck Hunt if they are gone. I may not main or play ic's alot but god dammit were they a cool character design.

Well, most people don't actually like DHD or R.O.B, in fact they aren't remembered all that fondly. I can also attest that Mr G&W isn't that iconic. As for people only caring about IC because of Smash, well same goes for Captain Falcon.

They can never get rid of Captain Falcon, his "FALCON PUNCH!" is way too iconic to get rid of. As for the Ice Climbers, they were a very unique design, but their series is most likely done and never really was good anyway. And with characters like Rosalina and Duck Hunt their "unique design" has become a lot less unique.

Not saying that they should axe Captain Falcon, in fact I advise they don't, if they don't want an angry mod on them. lol
I'm just saying the guy's reasoning against IC cut isn't sound. The reasoning you brought up, however is much more understandable.

I hope the Ice Climbers are in the Wii U version.
Cutting them from both games because they couldn't work on the 3DS only is stupid. Character customizations can still work with one game having extra characters, you can't just switch things over with that certain extra character. Sorry if I'm wrong, but it's just annoying how the Ice Climbers were cut only because of the 3DS. I hope they're back in Smash 5 or actually are in the Wii U version.

Anyways, this theory seems reasonable. The lack of characters filling up the last spaces could mean we'll be getting more characters as patches or by linking the 3DS with the Wii U, but the spaces could also just be there.....
There's also an empty space on the Stage selection.....

And by less unique they are still super unique since Rosalina is a puppet character, DHD is a projectile setup character and Ic's are a double grappler character.

Alright, so think about how the data for extra characters would be stored on the Wii U/3DS and how they would be unlocked on transfer.

Wouldn't they be on disc/cartridge locked? PROBABLY.
Are you cool that these characters weren't in the initial final roster, making the roster incomplete? DEPENDS.
Would you need to get past a paywall to unlock them? NO.

Hmmm, wouldn't these make them secret characters with unlock conditions that require external input? (Hey man, mind if you link up my 3DS to your Wii U for me?) Eh, this could be some pretty unfair **** to the general non-double dip consumer. Yet at the same time, both versions retain the same roster even with the transfer equalizing them. Hell, I bet you could hack the characters into the game if you wanted!

I will hope till the bitter end! But it's hard to keep your head high after what Sakurai said.

Unique on paper, but they were clearly broken by design ever since Melee. Unfortunate that IC have to go, but in all honesty, they were pretty much hampering the design of this game for a long while. Also, Wii U only would be great if there wasn't a rule to ensure that both rosters from each game didn't differ from each other. So unless Nintendo/Sakurai is glutton for punishment, they're not going to do that.

They were only broken when improperly balanced, kill chain grabs and everything is fine (which they have done)

I'll be happy if they release a free patch with the pure clone characters that were cut (Pichu, Roy, and Young Link) since those characters wouldn't take any more time or resources to create than Doc/Dark/Lucina and should have been last minute additions anyway once they decided to go the clone route...

I did not say that they werent unique. I said they are not as unique now as they were back when melee came out.

I really feel restricting the Wii U roster because of the 3DS version is silly. Wouldn't it make more sense to put in as many characters in the 3DS version as possible, let people get a good taste of Smash, and then have more in the Wii U version? Do people expect MK7 to get a huge update adding all the MK8 tracks for some reason? No. Anyone who is against there being more characters regardless of version is just being silly to me.

So that's why I hope this linking rumor is true. I want some extra characters to help hype up the Wii U version. Are these extra character rumors from trusted sources that have been right before? Just curious.
