The Video Forum is too cluttered.

It's fairly difficult to find what I want in the video forums ever since the switch. I'd advocate switching back to Tournament videos, Streams, Combo Videos/Misc. The more cluttered the video forums get, the less incentive there is for people to post tourney videos in here, which are all I am interested in most of the time.

Yes, ever since it was all mashed up into one forum I've been way less inclined to come here.

I also completely agree. I felt this way ever since the update, but figured they were working on it and maybe it would be fixed soon, but it doesn't seem that way.

We don't need a section for Tournament Videos. They should just be included with Tournament Results. When a TO makes a Tournament Results thread, it can show a little check box saying "Videos", and they can check it if their thread has videos. This will allow people to search the Tournament Results section and filter threads based on whether or not they have videos.

Anyone have a suggestion of exactly how to layout the video section(s) of Smashboards? If it is solid we will implement. The issue was, previously, there was so much subdivision that the video subforums had close to zero traffic and most of the subforums only had 2-3 threads posted per month - which is NOT enough for something to warrant an entire subforum.

Also, I hope everyone is aware that this exists: http://smashboards.com/media/

loool the media section is even more unorganized
though its pretty easy to navigate since there's only a few vids
i mean i liked the split of a combo video section and tournament vids and then live streams
id suspect tournament and livestream threads get updated frequently
for the combo video section... that all depends on how frequently they're made i suppose

AZ, I think the subforums worked fine, only a few of the subforums had very little traffic.

At the least I think we should implement the subdivision of:

Melee tournament vids - self explanatory
Melee Media (Or whatever name really) - Combo videos, other videos
Livestream (already in place)

This way Tournament vids which gets lots of traffic can be its own separate forum and the rest can be lumped into one forum since the traffic there is low.

We can get rid of the livestream part since its always displayed in the front page. Though I'm really up in the air on that last one.

What about taking the best of both worlds?

Keep it all in once place, but add ability to label threads as 'Tournament', 'Livestream', or 'Other'. Then, if somebody wants to only see Tournament videos, they click a little tab that hides the other two, etc..

^This.

The media section looks like it could have a lot of potential. All of the media that is submitted should be tagged appropriately with keywords such as character and player names. That way someone can search "Mango Jigglypuff" and get all of the videos with Mango's Jigglypuff, whether that is his combo video, a full tournament set vs. Armada, or just a 15 second clip. Organizing videos like this will make it a lot less critical to organize them into subsections like how it currently is. You have a section for barlw videos and it gets broken down in the same way as Melee videos. It'd be much simpler to just have a Combo/Music video section, and let the user check a box for which games to include. This also allows more complex searches for people who may be searching for a certain player's content in multiple games, or you may just vaguely remember a video by the song name and the character and can only use that data to search for a long lost video. If people only want to search from Combo/Music Videos, Tournament Videos, or Miscellaneous, they can navigate to those sub-sections before searching.

Organizing videos by tags also gets rid of the current issue where when you click a section, the videos that fall under the sub-section don't appear. For instance, when I click "Smash Bros. Melee", it takes me to this link: http://smashboards.com/media/category/smash-bros-melee.3/ . Unfortunately, this section has no videos. This suggests that there aren't any Melee videos, when clearly there are plenty. All videos should appear not only in their sub-sections, but in their super-sections as well. So when I click "Smash Bros. Melee", every single video should be listed in there. From there, I should be able to check boxes and search to find what I want. Maybe I want to check a box labeled "MLG 2006" so I can immediately see all of the Melee videos from MLG '06. I can organize them even further by check a box to list them by upload date, views, rating, number of comments, or whatever your heart desires. If you need some ideas, just start with the same filters YouTube offers (just search on YouTube for any keyword, then click "Filters" at the top left).

I agree with this thread. Changing the way it used to be to the way it is now might as well have just deleted the entire thing. Its too hard to see all the latest tournament threads and now I don't even bother looking anymore. Just simply make a tournament video forum the way it used to be, a combo vid forum maybe, and an other video section for the rest. At least make a sub forum for the tournament videos.

There's no need for a buncn of compicated design layouts with special filtering options that will end up making the mods too lazy to ever implement it. Just a simple two or three sub forums with one dedicated to tournament vids.
