You do bring up a good point about Rage. I'd like to see how Roy compares with the Rage Behemoths that are Charizard and Bowser.

Not exactly autocancel status but still good.
Looks pretty similar to Captain Falcon's bair landing in terms of frames. Probably 2 or so longer. It's safety is going to depend on how much shieldstun and hitlag it has. Also it definitely will autocancel out of shorthop, just not at the top of the jump.

I recall someone saying you couldn't but I dont have any video evidence atm
From looking at his fall speed and the animation it's pretty readily obvious that he can't. I would be downright shocked if he could as it would mean his fair has an insane IASA frame. IF he meant a SH fair into a double jump fair then I don't know. Probably.

I've been maining Marth and Lucina since day 1, using each one to cover different MUs. Now I have even more options >:D

I really wouldn't recommend you play Roy anything like Marth. Doing that is what gives a lot of people their horrid, horrid impressions of Roy in Melee. Playing Roy is almost the opposite of playing Marth. It's significantly more grounded.

Hey great question. Since Marth's doesn't I really doubt it, but it would be really cool! I always liked Roy's spike hit for his DED, the overhead swing meteor-ing always looked pretty brutal to me lol. With nerfed meteor cancels it could actually be really good too.

I said options, after all. I'm fully aware of Roy's different playstyle. I play Lucina significantly different than Marth, and Roy will be no different.

I'll have complete-ish frame data (hit on frames, endlag/FAF, damage, etc) by tomorrow assuming he releases then.
Just wanted to say: thanks for your efforts! They're very appreciated.

Guys, Zero is dropping a lot of Roy knowledge right now:
ZeRo said:
Roy's Throws send people really close to him, especially down throw. His forward air also auto cancelled...
ZeRo said:
So Roy's Dtilt pops people up at 0 for a combo and has very little cooldown.
ZeRo said:
So Roy:
Throw follow ups (Down Throw)
Up throw kills
Fair auto cancels
Forward Smash is really strong
Upb doesn't go far
-From his Twitter

He seems REALLY optimisitic about Roy and actually said he'll play him.

Of course he'll play him. He plays every character in the game to see how they work. But he's also optimistic about Shulk and lots of others who are what he considers mid tier. Take what he says with a grain of salt. Top guys always throw their pitch about new characters like everyone else and often times they're wrong just like everyone else. M2K was saying Bowser was top tier early on too just like lots of top competitors. Now they don't. I wouldn't take his word on a character he hasn't played with much more than anyone else lol.

Nairo already deconfirmed his auto canceling fair after examining it. I honestly don't think roy is gonna be all that great in the long run. He'll be better than Marth and his clone but I don't think he'll be able to compete with the top tiers unless Zero himself is playing him.

The guy that performed the fair in question did a truly terrible job of testing it. First he did it from a double jump, from below and onto a platform, and also at the apex of the jump, not at the start. I wouldn't say that it won't autocancel from hop just yet. It probably doesn't, and honestly it's not really that big a deal considering how you play Roy (not as much as it would be to Marth), but I'll wait on that one.

I just want to let you guys know that the Roy Skype Group is hard at work creating a comprehensive list of Damage, Frame Data, and Practical Applications for all of Roy's moves. Count on seeing a link to it tomorrow or the day after.

So, they kept Roy's standard special, Flare Blade, as it was in Melee, correct? No poking like Lucina/Marth? :3
That alone makes him a semi clone ^-^
lolwut

Takes more then a few changes to escape his clone status.

Back on track, Roy interestingly plays more like Pit then Marth. That GIF had a guy combo Luigi in training at 70%, right? Pit in training true combos Dthrow Uair to 80% in the same conditions. Aerials are incredibly fast too. At a glance, Pit has a better recovery (Blazer looks pretty bleh and his other specials don't appear to have an effect), one of the best projectiles in the game and appears to have the superior combo game, but Roy has power. Might end up picking him up for Vs. DDD and Lucario even though I hate the bugger. :estatic:

Preliminary Data
NOTE: For all moves add +7 frames of advantage if your opponent must drop their shield to punish you (IE they can't grab you or hit you with an Up B etc)

GROUND NORMALS
  • Jab = -15 on shield
  • F-Tilt = -19 on shield
  • D-Tilt = -19 on shield
  • U-Tilt(front hitbox) = -28 on shield
  • F-Smash = -33 on shield
  • Dsmash (hit 1) = -50 on shield
  • Dsmash(hit 2) = -34 on shield
AERIAL MOVES
NOTE: This depends heavily on where you hit with your blade and how close to the ground you were when you hit. For my tests I tried to do them as close to the ground as I could average out, and I always hit on the first frame available
  • F-Air = ~ -14 on shield, varies based on landing
  • U-Air = ~ -17 on shield, varies based on landing
  • B-Air = ~ -19 on shield, varies based on landing
  • D-Air = ~ -24 IE REALLY bad. Don't land with this move.
  • N-Air(hit 1) = ~-17 (only 3 frames of shield stun but easier to land quickly)
  • N-Air(hit 2) = ~-18 (4 frames shield stun but harder to land quickly)

SPECIALS
Note on Flare Blade : You gain frames of advantage the longer you charge the move. Hilariously, if you charge it to full you still don't lose any.
  • Flare Blade(uncharged) = -20 on shield
  • Flare Blade (semi charge 15 damage) = -17 on shield
  • Flare Blade(full charge) = -3 on shield (if somehow it manages to survive the hit)

BONUS Landing Lag Data

  • F-Air = 16 frames
  • U-Air = 17 frames
  • B-Air = 20 frames
  • D-Air = 29 frames
  • N-Air = 14 frames

Can Villager pocket the Up Smash? It wouldn't be the first Smash Villager could pocket.

Zero just plays characters that are good, simply to win. He'll play Roy for a day and say; "Oh, this isn't Diddy. He sucks, kbai."
Not only those. Zero plays the game to have fun too lol. He plays a lot of mid tier characters in friendlies all the time. He likes Shulk a lot despite not having a huge amount of faith in him, at least default Shulk.

I finally managed to get through the servers, so data will start being added to the OP now! Get hype!!!

Edit: Regrettably, none of Roy's aerials autocancel from a short hop.

I got it too. Working on mine as well. I don't think the autocancel is that big a deal though. His aerials, including fair, can confirm into throws at lots of percents. They seem really good on hit but bad on shield.

DED is a hell of a lot beefier than DB, in case anyone was wondering. A lot of Roy's moves feel really satisfying. Unfortunately I've yet to find a dthrow true combo, and we've lost our beloved dtilt. It looks like Blazer could serve an offensive purpose (I just did a mad sexy ledge trump/stage spike with it).

Utilt killed Dr. Mario at 131%, damn (Battlefield, off the top, Doc was on right plat, Roy was under him).

Jumped to meet a falling Megaman w/ Blazer and killed at 120% (Miiverse, top of stage).

Roy with Rage is gross. Gross, I say. I almost KOed someone with the sourspot of down air.

OH MY GOD

I just wall-of-pain'd a Bowser Jr CPU with three fairs on Miiverse, two of which were off-stage. It was suicide, but it killed at like 60%.

I then proceeded to dash attack kill (around 130%, right side of Miiverse), then Blazer kill (around 160%, top of Miiverse).

The Dance doesn't seem as good as it was In Melee, but the last forward hit might kill at high percentage.
