To be fair they are both from Unova technically. Must be something in the water. lol

But yeah, the new event/mode sucks. It's a real shame as it's obvious they put a lot of effort into it and I think most don't exactly hate the idea, but in execution they dropped the ball.


DENA has been good about fan feedback, at least generally compared to a lot of companies such as Niantic/Pokemon Go, but it does bug me that they thought releasing this mode in this state, especially after having already delivered on a great Rougelike mode with Battle Rally, was a good idea. The Prestige Event from years back still stands as their most anti-F2P moment, so by comparison this stands as their dumbest moment IMO.

I had so many ideas for this premise though a lot of them consist of big cinematic set pieces set to remixes like these

Like this set to a mine cart riding section with Mario and DK having to fend off Shy Guys in carts and the like

And Mario and DK bursting through a fleet of pirate/air ships and running up a tower of steel grinders and dodging barrels to face the dual bosses of Bowser and K Rool

Honestly some great feedback for the event. I think a good start would be if the unit has no moves and we get a tm orb to start each run. Allowing us to choose a move that does damage out of the gate and unlocking the rest and other paths from there.

Removing stamina would be a plus, or if we are going to be forced to use it, maybe let us add to grids each run instead of resetting.

Or more stages maybe to do a better grind for orbs.

I really hope they lower the cost of then HP and defensive stats or Buff the actual unit stats like you mentioned.

Not much of a point to building the unit if their stats suck first and foremost. Hopefully they get good in game feedback and improve this mode from here.

also it’s not permanent. The event says it ends like April 19th I believe. Which means if you get a bad unit out of it, the event sucks for you lol. I hope we get more gens too. As getting A rank does nothing right now.

I agree as well. Having Dire Hit on her grid felt pointless as both Attack/Spe Attack offered Crit Boosts. That could have easily been reserved for an Energy Ball upgrade path instead.

It feels really weird to have her as the Mascot for this mode as Rosa is basically a glass cannon unit no matter how you build her. You would have thought that a more balanced unit would have been the highlight. I was actually kind of surprised as when I first read about this mode before the Datamine, I thought you'd be able to fight against certain units to build exp towards a Sync Pair role of your choice like Strike or Support, but no she's just a Field unit.

Looking at the Datamine, I assume you can use Rosa in future events, but you may not get the same reward boost so training her will be a lot more frustrating. I haven't so far seen a F2P player make it to S+ Rank on her Grid; although there was one person on Reddit who beat Cresselia solo by cheesing Bullet Seed flinch.

Florian for later this month seems to at least be more focused as a Support unit and as such is easier to build around and is just more useful in general. You give him max HP/Defenses, a Support Trainer Move of your choice, and then just spam 1-Bar Tackle the rest of the match. Too bad he doesn't have an EX Color; units that don't have them are a turn off to me.

Ironically though as I complain, I still like Rosa and I do like her new outfit so I did at least finish the Event enough times to EX her and gave her a Sprint Role Cake. Too bad they didn't give us her 5/5 unlike previous F2P units as there isn't much reason to invest in her any further.

Ah heck yeah Regulation I is Double Restricted, I can finally use that Zacian/Kyogre/Regidrago core I've wanted to use for a long time!

Time to get back into VGC for a few more weeks again before getting bored of it again and forgetting about it until the next regulation.

I figured the last day should be a big Switch release and well, what better game to do that on a website called Smashboards? Everyone on this website at least fundamentally enjoys this series and the biggest game yet, the one I've spent almost 400 hours on just at home is a very special game indeed, I remember hanging out with my friends in 2018 watching this get shown off together, heading to Gamescom and finding out we'd get to play together and me and a ****boy friend instantly deciding on doing a Ganondorf ditto to continue our Dorf Patrol bit, meeting so many cool people through this website, having a few low stakes tournaments with close friends, ******** about the online for barely working when a friend from a city over can't play with me without a noticable amount of lag, a good friend and me growing closer due to him sharing his love of CastleVania while selling me his copies of Portrait of Ruin and Dawn of Sorrow to let me experience those masterpieces, meeting all sorts of cool people on this website, talking about games I'd never heard of before but being so enthusiastic about them that I simply had to try, making me a lifelong fan, beating World of Light while getting my hands on every Spirit and in game achievement. While me and my buddies haven't had the chance to play in a while, I did actually meet up with someone really cool who used to be on this website irl as she happened to be in the country on vacation, giving me an unforgettable experience. There's so many memories with this game, listening to music on the website prerelease, checking out rumours, funny moments when playing with friends, even making a montage video with friends. I daresay that out of any multiplayer game, this one has given me the most joy in my life.


Also, special thank you to everyone here who checked out these dumb, amateurish write ups, it's been very fun and I feel pretty touched that my Celeste write up made the thread gush about it for a page or two. Y'all are cool
