Illumination's CEO Chris Meledandri is being tight lipped when asked about a Mario movie sequel.

After breaking multiple box office records and the Mario fanbase is very pleased with the film results, the answer is very clear. :smirk:
we are now moving on to make Bubsy movies instead

Twitter arguing if there should be a Smash cinematic universe, I'm glad we discussed it in a civil manner.

Anyways, the answer is no it doesn't need to exist, and if you disagree you're a loser and have zero friends and no money and take a shower you smell.

Edit: arguing over this in particular

I will say though, this whole debate on a Smash Cinematic Universe is really opening my eyes on just how many Nintendo franchises will probably flop on the big screen.

Like taking off my Nintendo fan bias here, a lot of these franchises get hard carried by Smash and once you go past a franchise of Kirby's caliber it's more than likely gonna tank at the box office

Nintendo being pulled between WB and Comcast?
Hey, Studio Distribution Services (a joint-venure between Universal and Warner) exists, so they are on good terms, until the deal expires in 2030.

Speaking of which, Universal and Paramount had United International Pictures, which still operates in my country (Peru). Since the Sonic movies are from the "mountain of entertainment", this is a possible key of the door for third-party franchises.

I wish I had saved the tweet, apparently I didn’t.

But there was a really funny post with that wizard meme summoning 30,000 furries to fill the seats for a star fox movie.

And Low key, maybe they. Hold carry it if Krystal was in the movie lol.

Imma be real, Illumination does NOT feel like the kind of movie studio to build a cinematic universe. Not even a Nintendo one.

I've never seen someone so ride or die for both PBS Kids and Teletoon and I can't tell shows from the two networks apart most of the time.
Bit of an understandable mistake, that one. A BUNCH of PBS Kids shows are Canadian and give a lot of the same vibes as some of Teletoon's shows. There's even an old block called the Bookworm Bunch made up of Nelvana cartoons - and Nelvana was one of Teletoon's biggest contributors.

At least it's easy to find Teletoon's shows though. As a non-American finding good places to watch PBS Kids' shows not named Wild Kratts is painnnnn :secretkpop:

One of my hobbies is finding obscure cartoons no one’s heard about.

You’ve been a big help :101:
Happy to help. I'm always workin' to get the word out on obscure but awesome shows.

Next try Ready Jet Go :smash:

The furry when he shows up to the theater (he didn't get the memo that FNAF 2 was out)

I feel like that's what people said when Marvel started adapting relatively obscure or less popular heroes like Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy.

In all fairness though, they went for the more obscure when the MCU built up a reputation and clearly was building up to something. Got the general public invested first. On that note, the general public is unaware of like 90% of Nintendo's franchises, and Nintendo doesn't even care for like 75% of them so that's one hell of a reputation they gotta make for these franchises if they want them to succeed as movies.

Unless something changes, Mario, Zelda, Kirby, Animal Crossing, and Pokemon are probably the only ones that 100% can stand their ground (though idk if Kirby and AC would work as movies). The rest are gonna be viotiale as either they target sizable yet niche audience, or just flops because they're just unknown franchises with a dwindling fanbase.

Fire Emblem definitely holds it own. Same with Metroid, they just need to make it the right way.

Both Should be live action ( or make FE an anime with like the castlevania art style) Make Fe a show that follows each game plot or a game of thrones sort of plot.

Metroid if marketed like the next Alien and this big space epic could catch the general crowd who might not even know it’s a Nintendo property. The fans would also probably do a fairly good job advertising it and making it get some money. Not billion dollars worthy, but not a flip either. I think it could surprise us with the series rise in fame recently.

my office, probably
From what I understand the Mario movie is pretty much made exclusively for already existing fans

If they go the same route for other Nintendo franchises there's no way in hell they'll make buck at the box office.

I imagine a Kirby movie going like this:
Something something animated character in real world
  • Kirby finds himself in New York City that's where most funny animated characters in movies go to in real world.
  • Also, human and character scream freak out meeting each other cliche.
  • Kid character becoming friends with animated character.
  • Insert scenes of human hiding character in their house when someone comes over.
  • Don’t forget the wacky hijinks with the CGI character finding a human object and using it incorrectly or not knowing what it is.
  • Include scenes where the government wants character captured for scientific reasons.
  • Then they will either leave or something will happen to them, and the climax involves getting them back (usually by a big battle or some sort of daring escape)

This account never misses lmao:
There was a problem fetching the tweet
On Jonathan Majors, it really disappointing to hear the news of what has transpired around him. I know that Marvel Studios are currently taking careful steps and procedures at the moment and it would not be a surprise if they decided to recast him.
