So out of curiosity, what's the general consensus on this game today?

I'm especially curious what Crash fans think. Believe it or not this was actually the first game in the series that I ever played (unless you can a spin-off game that my cousin brought over once or twice), so the differences it has from the majority of the series were never really a negative for me.
This is actually the first Crash game I ever saw.

My cousin had it on his PSP.

I do have to agree that the brisk pacing hurts the emotional beats of the film with the scene with Mario and Donkey Kong inside the giant eel being a note worthy example. That being said, Jack Black unsurprisingly stole the show as Bowser though Chris Pratt did a really good job as Mario to the point that the trailers were a disservice to his preformance. Charlie Day was spot on as Luigi though I wish we saw more of him. Anya-Taylor Joy did well as Peach as it's clear her and Bowser's portrayal were influenced by the Mario RPGs. Seth Roger did fine as Donkey Kong though I question Nintendo's decision to make Cranky Kong his father again. Moving to easter eggs, BOY there were SO MANY Nintendo references. I didn't expect the Punch-Out!! boxers and Kid Icarus to show up. It was clear to me that this movie was made for Nintendo fans and they will enjoy the film the most.

Agreed on Chris Pratt. He did a far better job than anyone possibly thought he did.

Saw the Malleo movie today. I thought it was really great!
  • I will agree that the story was a bit weak but I'll forgive it
  • There was a lot of charm, Easter eggs, and laugh out loud moments
  • Chris Pratt did a really good job. The trailers didn't do a good job showing that
  • The kids in the audience were just eating it up. I was VERY surprised at the number of Nintendo references they were able to identify
  • The soundtrack is amazing and plan to buy the soundtrack
  • Jack Black NAILED it as Bowser
  • I didn't like Fred Armisen's portrayal of Cranky Kong
  • Charles Martinet's roles were so fun
  • Movie surprised me with the amount of licensed songs but they worked for me
  • Cool to finally see Foreman Spike in action after decades of absence
  • Seeing baby Mario & Luigi was great too
  • Man, Lumalee is one twisted mutha ****** and I love it
Plan to watch it again some time later

As a kid I was never really able to connect with it to be honest. But that's likely cuz I was more of a Spyro fan at the time and (outside of Nitro Kart) hadn't made a full connection with Crash. Though at the time the Spyro games were utter trite (basically God of War with a thousandth of the budget and the most melodramatic and cliche storytelling ever witnessed by human eye), so Titans was at least better than those games. (Not hard though...)

I'd like to play it again in the future. Maybe I'll connect better with it now that I'm a full-on Crash fan.

I generally hear the sequel's better tho
I personally couldn't disagree more on the Spyro games at the time being bad, but to each their own. It's also nice to see a more positive opinion on Titans.

Mind Over Mutant is overall better combat-wise, and the boss fights a lot more creative, but you'll hear mixed opinions on whether or not the game being an open-world rather than a linear level progression format is an improvement or a major step down from the first game.

It's better than most people give it credit for (I'm making a game that is, by all accounts a spiritual successor to it and other platformer/beat em up hybrids of it's day). Especially when you realize that the whole "Jacking" mechanic is just a combat focused version of Crash's signature Animal Riding levels. It's a fine afternoon's distraction not worth getting upset over in any real way.
Yo, nice! How's progress on this game going?

I really never got the overall backlash the game received, although I can understand some of the criticisms towards the character redesigns. Apparently, the game was supposed to be more story-driven and would've actually explained what caused the redesigns in-universe, but this was cut for some reason.

This is actually the first Crash game I ever saw.

My cousin had it on his PSP.
Did you ever get it to play it yourself?

Slowly. I have a few people helping me on the creative side but all of us are completely new to the programming and development side and we're too new and too low income to actually hire a professional team. So we have to learn ourselves how to do things and the process of acquiring a new skill in the real life is frustratingly difficult, if very rewarding. But it's starting to look like an actual project so... progress.

Depending I might see the film this Saturday or next.

Either way, am in no rush. When I see it, I'll see it.

Gonna have to be careful going on YouTube if I want to avoid spoilers...

Got a little spoiled on the post credit but not mad or surprised, but…

Just came to a realization. If….

Is Yoshi. Then perhaps the Yoshis hold a stronger narrative tie to the sequel.
Which means, this could low key actually happen in the sequel:
I would be very hyped.

And I saw the Mario Movie.

Yeah it has it's issues, pacing is off, characters don't go through some deep development, story is weak, but I'm ngl I had a blast watching it. Smiled the entire movie, and it's pretty damn funny too. And despite the lack of character development, I actually enjoyed every one of them, even Pratt Mario. Heck, Toad was surprising standout, he was awesome! And can we please get a game where Peach is as cool as she is in the movie? Plz?

Also
Congrats to a certain user getting their wish come true

In a sense it's just like the games. The narrative isn't particularly strong, the characters don't really develop, or anything like that. But it's just a really fun time.

Now whether that was intentional or they just wrote it weird, idk :drshrug:

It probably just wanted to play it super safe. Gonna compare it to the Sonic movie for the 1 millionth time, but the first movie didn't have much development, and the plot points were felt forced and cliched. Then the 2nd movie, they actually had heart to heart scenes and more natural development, and the plot was more robust.

That said, I... actually like the characterization here more than I do in the games, but characters in the games are basically stale bread

Assuming King K. Rool is the villain of the DK spin-off (It being perhaps revealed Bowser and his army never invaded his land because they both had a truce as well as mutual respect for each other), I hope for a future film where he and Bowser join forces. The combined might of them and their armies would be a force to be reckoned with.

Stephen Fry is also my nominated choice for King K. Rool. I totally imagine him having a British accent.

I saw a post on Twitter earlier that made mock-ups of thumbnails (or screenshots) for if Schaffrilas, AniMat and DazzReviews gave awful reviews to the Mario movie.

Decidedly out-of-character for Schaffrilas and ESPECIALLY AniMat. Very in character for Dazz though, literally so many of the movies he's called "TERRIBLE" are:
  • Easy targets (i.e. Cars 2)
  • Literally just mid (i.e. Chicken Little)
  • ACTUALLY GOOD (i.e. The Good Dinosaur and both Trolls movies I will die on this hill)
Idk though, that's just my thoughts ¯\(ツ)

Schaffrilas may like the movie since he only dissed the live action one so far

To be fair chicken little totally warranted.

there’s no solid plot throughout and it switches genres half way.

Has one of the worst parents of all time. Hell even the town might be one of the worst in existence. Capitalizing off a child because they had nothing better do. When they hated him they went all in, then they “liked him” because it was the new trend and profited more.

Aliens have no purpose to the plot other than they needed a threat. Ending is rushed.

It’s just a mess all around.

Also kinda agree with him on good dinosaur. I’d say it’s more mid than bad. It’s a barebones ice age basically.
