Wow. Sorry. I knew I ruffled some feathers back in college when I went on that rampage about it but I didn’t think people would still be upset.
I'm not really upset, I'm just busting your balls.
Nothing really. I just prefer my wizard foxes and my traffic cones to be separate entities.
Oh what so traffic cones can't be wizard foxes, that right? I thought you were better than this.

I don't really think in terms of 'masc' or 'femme' for my starters anyway. I just wanna see a grass type starter with a floral motif again.

Pink. Yoshi. Likey. Flowers.

Delphox would’ve been cooler if it’s model didn’t make it look like a traffic cone

I would've loved if they gave Delphox a more dynamic pose in its battle model like they did with Greninja's permanent superhero landing.

I need to know the Snake lore. What happened there?

Rillaboom is my favorite Gen 8 starter and I don't even like it that much.

Goes to show how **** the Galar starters are
To be honest, I kinda get where you're coming from. Yes, Inteleon is my favorite starter period, but I very very rarely think about Rillaboom or Cinderace. Like it's not even close for me lol.

Rillaboom is cool. Not the craziest design, if you told someone to imagine a grass gorilla Pokemon Rillaboom is exactly what they’d come up with, but it works.

My only complaint is the drum. I dearly wish they would’ve given it wooden chest plates so when it beat its chest (like apes are known to do) it’d make bongo noises. But no, it has to hunch over this little drum set and it just looks awkward to me.

Aw well, none of the Galar trio are my favorites anyway. Mid generation for starters.

In college I was really depressed and I got overly emotionally attached to the idea that Grookey would evolve into a punk rock drummer girl. To the point I staked my emotional well being on it and my eventual adventures with it and the bond I was going to have with it. Then when Rillaboom was revealed I had a full on meltdown. Said a lot of stuff I regret, yelled at a lot of people, and got banned for a while. Not fun.

Honestly I would've taken a punk rock drummer girl Grookey over what we got. Not that Rillaboom is a bad design but like... what you described sounds like it would really be up my alley

Darn...must've been rough. Going through hard times can really do stuff to your mental health and wellbeing. Hope things are better now.

I fear we are fated to have opposite opinions because I cannot stand Inteleon
I mean to be fair, we do share an intense love of Tyrantrum. Plus, for as much as I love Delphox dearly, I also think Greninja is insanely cool.

Kalos in general is peak starters, to be honest.

But I can also see why some people might not get on with Inteleon, the thing is basically a pool noodle with spaghetti for a tail. :dkmelee: I think I just really like its arc. It starts out as a poor precious crying child, evolves into a bitter and really cool emo teen (and not obnoxiously bitter and tsundere like Goh's Raboot...I HATED that thing) and then becomes a whole secret agent sniper with one of the coolest Gigantamaxes in the game? Sign me the heck up. Also I have a soft spot for reptilians in general. Idk, it just hits all the right buttons for me.

Also I tend to root for the underdog a lot when it comes to starters, as you can tell by my love of Meganium :nifty:

I’m better now. Still not great, but I’m better at channeling my emotions in appropriate ways

Thinking about it now, a femme coded Pokémon that focused on being "cool" rather than "attractive" in terms of aesthetic would probably be one of my favorite Pokémon ever. Do it Gamefreak, make a tomboy Pokémon

Honestly your opinions are completely valid, I just find it very funny how much our tastes differ when they do differ

I'm playing the Dinosaur Planet prototype but I don't know if it's the emulator I'm using or if the fan patch still hasn't fixed the textureless areas on the world map (I'm using the latest patch version) .

Some theories as to how my Love type would effect the game...
1735946376216.png

  • Fairy would return to being the best type in the game. With Steel now kept thoroughly in check by Love, Fairy would essentially have cart-blanche to run rampant on the competitive scene now that people are keeping their eyes out for Love types that could cripple their Steel types.
  • Since the Steel-loving Tera mechanic would be gone as of this new gen and they're strong against the new Love type AND the newly successful Fairy type, Poison would soar in its viability, and would maybe even reach top 10 status, perhaps even top FIVE.
  • Psychic would also see a return to form, with a new type that it completely dominates. Bug follows closely behind, with a new type it handles very well, and with Psychic returning to the meta, Bug would see a large increase in use to handle both Love and Psychic.
  • On the other hand...Steel would obviously take a hit with a new type built entirely to counter it. But it'd still remain viable for the most part as a counter to Fairy and the three types that counter Love.
  • The biggest loser would probably be Dark. Love, as I've mentioned, dominates it, and Fairy returning to full strength gives it two very powerful types that counter it completely. It might well join Rock at the bottom of many tier lists due to just how much Love's addition screws it over. Sorry, Greninja.
  • As for Love itself...I'm thinking it'd be a pretty healthy top 5 type. Not sure where it'd be in said top 5 - like I said Fairy would probably become #1 again, and potentially Poison would join it in the top 5 due to how it counters Love and Fairy both, while Steel would probably remain somewhere in the top 5 alongside probably Fire.
I know I've talked about this like five bazillion times, but man I just really love theorycrafting. I love thinking about how ideas like this would change how the meta stands. Wolfey will never see this to give his two cents, so I'll just talk about it myself.

Clafairy, clefable, Blissy, Happine, Audino

There is plenty of female coded pokemon that arent focused on Being attractive. Hell, Nidoqueen and Kangaskhan is right there, they are cool as hell

I do kinda think Cinderace is a step up from Delphox design-wise, but that's probably just because it's evolutions are most consistent with it's base form.

The jump from quadruped fire fox (no Mozilla pun intended) to a bipedal fire mage with tons of fur instead of robes just always seemed weirder and more drastic to me than Scorbunny being bipedal from the start and only gaining stuff like a jacket and shorts (also presumably made out of fur) in it's evolutions.

Probably doesn't help that X/Y was the generation where most Starters to their evolutions went from being quadruped to anthromorphic and bipedal really began.

Wait, now I'm curious. Have there been any sneaky hints at what the next region of Pokemon might be like?
Yes, there absolutely are. Trouble is we won’t know until way later.

Like in Ultra Sun/Moon there was a tourist trainer who asks about a Power Spot, which relates to the Power Spots in Galar. Something we wouldn’t know about in 2017.

And in Sword/Shield there’s a hotel where the wall decorations feature oranges and grapes, references to the two academies in S/V. Once again something we wouldn’t know about yet.

So yes, S/V has a reference to Gen 10’s region somewhere. We just don’t know what it is :nifty:

I made silhouettes of my ideas for the box legends of my Italy-based region.
Purore Box Legends Concept.png

Given the focus on types in the Italy-based region of Purore, these legendaries are the masters of many, many elements.

On the left is the master of classic chemical elements - fire, water, ice, air (Flying), electricity, poison, magic (Psychic + Fairy), darkness and undead powers (Ghost). It is the master of energy - it'd be known as the Energy Pokemon and specializes in special attack and defense.

On the right is the master of the very ground we walk on - earth (Ground and Rock) and metal (Steel) and the life that thrives on, in and around it (Grass, Bug, Normal and Dragon), and the things that can break and move both physical earth and those who dwell around it (Fighting). It is the master of physicality - it'd be known as the Physicality Pokemon and specializes in physical attack and defense.

Both Pokemon would have abilities that grant them STAB bonuses on all the types they represent outside of their main two types.

You'll notice their silhouettes resemble a bird and a snake. This is because I took basis from the legendary mythological World Tree - which is often associated with an eagle and a serpent. Get the idea?

You'll also notice that I didn't mention Love - well, that is because The Power of Love is something that defies all classification, yet, in many ways, may be stronger than all the previously-mentioned elements. This is also shown in how it can hit both the Energy and the Physicality Pokemon for super-effective damage due to their Ice and Rock typings retrospectively.

God I can be cheesy sometimes.

Also a new PFP, I might switch around the characters, but I think this will be the style I go with for this year. The colors are even Pantone, 361c & 2597c
