Somewhere out there on this big blue marble
Actually after rewatching the Kirby trailer I think mouthful mode is pretty cool. Could lead to some real creative level designs if done right. I remain cautiously optimistic for the game
Ok but who cares about Mouthful Mode, the ability upgrades are where it's at, cosplaying as minibosses and having the Ultraman reference change to a different Ultraman is amazing

My caffeine. I drank way, way too much last night and I've a headache.

But Direct so it was worth it. Yesterday was one of the best days in a good while (maybe a year) personally.

I still can't believe Xenoblade 3 is happening this year.

God I can't wait to get lost in that world.
My dear friend Xenoblade 3 is now my most anticipated. I can't wait to just lose myself in another world like that. I'm so happy for you just as much as me honestly. The series holds so dear to both of us.
And also being announced almost 1 year since Pyra/Mythra in Smash and 10 years since I actually played the game for the first time (around June 2012) so yeah.

This may have been the first Direct where there are like five day 1 buys for me.

Chrono Cross Remaster
Mario Football
Nintendo Switch Sports
Portal Companion Collection
Fire Emblem Warriors 2.
And Xenoblade 3 of course.

I'm content right now.

Almost forgot about my Direct thoughts:

It was neat…Portal Companion Collection came after I had bought Portal 2 on Xbox, but Portal on the go is cool!
Will it include the levels from Portal Still Alive though?

Nvm it sucks
Y'all see. Some franchises are better off ending on a good note.

Dug up once again just to join the franchise rot with Family Guy, The Simpsons, and Spongebob.

Late to the Star Fox discussion, but I'd like to contribute.
Star Fox just isn't popular with the new age to justify new releases.
There would be if they didnt keep rebooting it.

Seriously why are most of these games remakes of the original?
The Star Fox series has 8 games.

(It only has 4)
These issues go hand-in-hand. Star Fox's biggest achievement, being SF64, is its biggest issue because it just cannot outgrow its own shadow. And because of that, Nintendo just doesn't seem to know what to do. Best efforts have been either playing it too safe by sticking too close to what SF64 was, or by doing something so different it alienates fans.

They need to find a happy middle ground between the two. Star Fox has plenty of potential, so it's definitely possible to happen, it's just a matter of if Nintendo (Or a Dev team they hand Star Fox to) can realize and utilize said potential.

Star Fox is...probably not long for this world if Star Fox Zero didn't kill it.
So I decides to search up SF0 sales because of this.

It flopped. It flopped bad. And tbh, idk if there's any more room for Star Fox in this day and age, it's been outdone by games like No Man's Sky and as for Sci-Fi shooters go, Metroid can fill the exact same niche.
Iirc, people didn't like Adventures nor Assault and especially not Command.

So it was infinite Star Fox and Star Fox 64 reboots until it died
I've said this before, and I'll say it again. Star Fox isn't a dead franchise. Please stop saying it is. Star Fox has gotten a fair bit of attention since Zero "killed" it. If Nintendo didn't care, you think we would've gotten:
  • Star Fox content in Starlink: Battle For Atlas base game AND its own DLC?
  • Star Fox 2 brought back with the SNES Classic?
  • Star Fox merchandise on Nintendo's Amazon store?
  • Star Fox Zero wallpapers featured on Nintendo Japan's website (The only non-Switch game to do so)

I firmly believe we'll see another Star Fox game. Maybe not this year, but certainly in the future. Miyamoto himself has said he wishes Star Fox was more popular, and will put forth more energy into the series moving forward. Maybe after the Super Mario Movie he'll revisit Star Fox. For better or worse.

Plus with Switch is only mid-life. They've revisited plenty of 'left behind' IPs like Metroid Dread, Advance Wars, and now Mario Strikers. Why not add Star Fox to the list of franchises making a comeback on the best selling Nintendo system? Even if it's a Star Fox Zero Deluxe port. It'd need a lot of work, but PlatinumGames is up for the task.

Side note, I never understood how Star Fox Grand Prix Was believable.
Most people believed it simply by how many "insiders" were talking about it. The idea of Star Fox just being a Diddy Kong Racing clone is pretty bad, but I think there's actually a bit of potential behind the idea if you really get creative. Here's what my interpretation would be:
To draw the Mario Kart parallels, each planet would serve as a "Cup", with each planet having three missions (Tracks) and a fourth being a boss battle.

"Racing" wouldn't exactly be the point as much as competitive scoring. Think playing a Halo campaign mission in co-op with competitive scoring on. In the end, all players are working toward the same goal, completing the mission, but your placements at the end depend on your score.

Score is determined by three factors: How quick you complete the missions (Time), number of enemies shot down (Hits), and percentage of damage delt to the final boss (Boss %). So if you zoom through all the levels, you may have first pickings at enemy spawns, but you'll be going too quick to take out large targets that are worth a bunch of hits.

And as the rumor goes, there would be a story mode. Between missions the Great Fox would serve as a hub world. Talk to your squadmates, upgrade your Arwings, view collectibles/rewards from missions, listen to the OST on the jukebox, etc. The Fortress of Doom from DOOM Eternal is my inspiration there.

Of course there would be multiplayer, online and offline. Probably only four players since its the Star Fox team going on missions.
It's not my ideal Star Fox, but there's a lot of potential behind it and I'd be stoked for something similar. Feedback is welcome if anyone has any.

I'm very happy for you, Lamperouge Lamperouge , Hydreigonfan01 Hydreigonfan01 and all the other Xenoblade fans here. I got into the series with Pyra/Mythra's reveal for Smash and even after playing through the two games back to back I was already thirsting for the third game. I couldn't imagine what the wait felt like for those of you who were with the series ever since XC2 first came out, XCX and especially at the beginning with XC1 and imagining what the sequels were gonna look like.

Xenoblade means a lot to me too. XC1 taught me to be more confident with my life choices and XC2 taught me that no matter how ****** your situation might be, there's always a glimmer of hope for a better future. I love both games (Don't have the means to play X unfortunately), especially XC2. I cried for over a hour after the ending and I became so passionate about the game that I bought the artbook, physical soundtrack, and wrote a 30 page essay on the game and Torna.

There's just something really special about this series and I'm so ready to jump back into the series and see how everything wraps up.

In terms of games from the Direct that I want to get, aside from Xenoblade 3 there's also Klonoa, Chrono Cross, the Mario Kart pass, and maybe the Disney kart racer. By the halfway point it was already a good Direct for me, but Xenoblade 3 sealed it for me as a 10/10 Direct. I'm still reeling from the announcement and made me go back to continue my new game+ run of XC2.

Something Persona without heart something

DAILY DEMON SHOWCASE

This showcase's demon is of the Foul race:

1644506580613.png

“I am Foul Shadow. I am thou and thou art I!”

Alignment: True Neutral

Origin: Philosophical mythology. The shadow is either an unconscious aspect of the personality that the conscious ego does not identify in itself or the unknown side of one’s psyche. The concept of shadow is also linked to shades, the spirits or ghosts of a dead person, residing in the underworld. Therefore, confronting your shadow may be a dangerous process, as it can cause it to come to life as a demon, trying to assimilate its owner.

Skills: Taunt, Mamudo, Spirit Drain, Tetrakarn

Next time, you will meet a demon of the Fallen race.

Persona jokes aside, Shadow has a simple but very effective design. The way masks’ normally unseen side is shown clearly symbolizes the relationship between seen and unseen parts of the mind. Not sure why it’s a demon, though, other than some loose justifications but I’m not complaining. Even if some 3D games have Shadow, its floating masks look never made it in, but I think there is a lot you can do with its animations.

Bringing Alan Grant back is just another case of this nostalgia trend which we've been seeing lately. The only reason he was likely brought back to begin with.

Aside from that, there was really no reason to bring him back. Just the sake of audience getting that nnnnoooossstttalllggiiia.

♪MARINA'S CHAT☆ROOM♪
BHM Day 10:

So we all saw that Wii Sports Sequel the yesterday. We all know the Wii was super popular. And with the Wii came a lot of clones, most notable, the X-Box Kinect. Well, here's someone with a large hand in that
Karisma-Williams-300x232.jpg

Meet Karisma Williams, a Bradley grafuate. Karisma was the senior experience designer/developer of the X-Box Kinect. She had a large role in creating the UI amd was also responsible for the making it accessable for all kinds of users. Aside from that, she also worked on many different types of games. She currently works at EA.

There wasn't much about her sadly, so I'll leave an interview that I lifed off black enterprise
What are your day-to-day duties at Microsoft?

I design and develop the various onscreen interfaces, which include menus, interaction models and onscreen elements. I work with various disciplines including artists and developers during the development process. Part of my job is looking at the overall interaction models and user experience. With the launch of Kinect we focused on removing the barrier of entry for people who don’t play games–something kids could use as well as grandparents. There’s an article where a guy who had an autistic son was able to go through the menus. My job is to interpret the creative vision and ensure the user experience is geared toward our target audience and highlights the benefits of new tech.

How long have you been in the gaming industry?

I’ve been in the game industry for six years and working on Kinect for over a year. My expertise has given me great opportunities to lead implementation wise. I enjoy the problem solving involved in implementing a high level design while remaining within given technical constraints such as memory restrictions.

How do you come up with your designs?

A lot of my design ideas come from my experience playing lots of games, observing user research sections, and observing how others interact with various technologies. My talents for design are largely intuitive but I do like to supplement that gift with various research and experimentations.

How did you gain that knowledge?

[Coming in to the industry] I don’t know if I knew what UI [user interface] design was, but all I wanted to do was make video games–the end product. You don’t know what goes into getting the product on the shelf you just know you want to be a part of it. I go back to a lot of my design sense being very intuitive, the first interface team I got hired on in the games industry was an easy fit for me. The rest of my knowledge came from experience; this is a fast paced industry where you learn a bit everyday.

Have you come across many minorities in your field?

There aren’t many minorities [within the industry]. We are a big part of the consumer group. There are games targeted to us. I don’t know if we don’t know about opportunities in the game industry, but there is a huge need for different point of views in the industry. The only way the industry can continue to grow and reach new audiences is to grow its source of ideas.

How would you suggest other minorities break into the gaming industry?

There are lower barriers to get into the game industry and then you move yourself around. A lot of people get in through engineering positions, but you don’t have to be technical to get in. There are entry-level tests, and management positions. If you want to get in through art, I’d say try learning proprietary art programs and you can always work your way around to other creative positions.

The best advice I can give is to network. There are various websites and groups where you can connect with those already in the industry. There are even organizations such as Blacks In Gaming. Â Most in the industry are nice and willing to help someone who is looking to break in. Use LinkedIn and if you see someone with your dream job send them a note and ask them how they got in. I did this when I was first looking to get in myself and it was very helpful.

Have you found that there are less women in the gaming industry?

I think there are not a lot of women in the industry. Having a female insight is important. The more perspectives on the team [the better], which is what the game industry needs to do to continue to grow. Sony has a Women in Games scholarship. There are groups and people who are about diversifying the game industry. We’ve come a long way. My current Studio GM is a woman; women are infiltrating and influencing the industry more and more. I want to see more female developers in the future.

As a woman of color in gaming, do you mentor?

I’ve done mentoring for people who send me emails and ask for advice. I have mentors myself. You have to really be passionate and constantly want to improve. It’s a highly sought after industry. It’s right underneath movies. You have to work hard and expect to work harder.

What tips or words of advice would you offer someone trying to break into the industry?

Networking is huge. A lot of the chances and opportunities I’ve gotten have been through networking. Also, stay focused and do what you believe in doing. If you make sure you stay focused you’ll essentially get a chance to act on it. Always ramp up on technical skills, the industry rapidly changes and it’s important to understand the latest technology advances. Lastly, learn about the game engines, development processes and the programs. Learning how to talk to the various disciplines you will encounter in the industry is important. Remember ideas are good and a lot of people have them, the real question will be can you execute them–whether it be with a team or yourself. Continue to look for opportunities to execute on your ideas. Nothing can stop you from getting into the industry these days, the tools and the marketplace is wide open.

You know, they should have called the animal crossing dlc like… the expansion pass portion of the expansion pass or something. Especially since you get Mario kart 8 dlc through it now too. If more dlc expansions get added to it, that actually significantly increases its value.
