I personally think ending the series at Ultimate(or at the very least, waiting a couple years to start work on the next game) is the best move overall. I doubt Nintendo will ever be able to pull off “Everyone is Here!” again without some serious luck.

Honestly I wish for bloody once a series just dies in a nice clean way like Smash Bros and Uncharted for example.

Unfortunately some people in the industry are too hungry for money.

Smash definitely isn't ending lol.

They'll just find another director if Sakurai steps down after this. Nintendo loves money too much to retire the series after Ultimate.

Ok, hear me out, I’m gonna do some thinking out loud here.

I seriously doubt roster size is as big a concern with Smash as some people make it out to be.

Yes, you have to optimize your game well and make sure it isn’t chunky, and yes, you have deadlines to meet and realistic expectations to maintain, but I seriously doubt roster size is a big factor in deciding who’s in and who’s not.

I believe decisions are made based on what the fanbase wants and what is good from a business perspective, (as they should be,) so I seriously struggle to get my head around the concept of “wasted slots.”

If they want another character, they can totally add another without having to axe an already existing character, imo.

I was really hoping Shantae would be the next fighter. While this isn't the exact outcome I had wished for, at least we can play as her in some capacity.

I do think it paints a fairly bright future for her to be a playable character in the next Smash. At least they've acknowledged the demand.

I think there is a degree of plausibility to crash ending the pass. But it could be anyone.

We’ve got no leads, no leaks, no hints. And the only train of thought we can follow (a “disappointment”) is broad enough that it could fit almost everyone but the biggest third parties.

We’re in the dark for the next few months.
