I finally finished the story campaign of Pokemon Shield.
Maybe it's just because I haven't been playing since Gen 1 or even Gen III, but I really don't get the majority of the negative reception the game gets. I personally enjoyed most of what it had to offer, though doing most of the Isle of Armor (everything that can be done until the post-game begins, at least) before getting to Wyndon helped enhance the experience. The Shinx and Alolan Vulpix I got from there even ended up becoming permanent members of my team, and I didn't even evolve the latter for a while.
Hop's still a great character, don't care what anyone else says. Rose was a weird villain who's motivations I get but who could've been executed much better, because the actions he makes in the story makes him come off as dense and impulsive rather than a truly conflicted anti-villain, which is the direction I think they were going for. Same goes for Oleana and the Macro Cosmos staff, who were really just doing their jobs and taking them to the extreme. The overall story is solid aside from the human antagonists. The Eternatus fight was great in every way. The Wild Areas are a concept that should be expanded upon. The game wasn't terribly challenging, but it also wasn't a a total cakewalk, either. Not at all. The National Pokedex ordeal is less of a problem what with the DLC having brought back almost every missing 'Mon by now, especially since it took care to include a lot of fan favorites first and foremost.
I can get why people would consider Sw/Sh another repetition of past games, but the games as a whole are far, far from being genuinely bad.
