Morning guys.
Also, personal question from here that's been on my mind. Anyone else think that the likes of Bandana Dee and Dixie Kong and their chances are really dead in the water? Like, with how the reveals for DLC characters have turned out, I'm certainly suprised that the support threads for these characters have managed to stick around for this long despite their uncertainty status.
And before anyone brings it up, I'll say this. A character's fan demand can only help so much into actually getting them into joining the roster, we've all seen what happened with Isaac, Decidueye, and Travis among other requested characters. And just because Spirits don't "deconfirm" now that doesn't automatically mean they're going to be chosen no matter what.
This is a sentiment I also have with the Isaac and Waluigi support threads (especially the latter one).
This is something I've been thinking about as well. If you look at all of Smash's DLC, including Smash 4, if you exclude the veterans, the only new first party characters we got were Corrin, Byleth, and Min Min. This has lead to people believing that the only way we are getting first party characters is if they are promotional. I disagree with this notion, but I can see why people believe it. The overwhelming majority of DLC has been third party and third party characters are what gets the most attention in speculation. I think that people shouldn't sleep on first parties (especially Waluigi, Isaac, and Rex). But when it comes to Bandana Dee and Dixie Kong, I'm not sure. If you ask me, they should be in the game. They are Nintendo all-stars and they are some of the few remaining characters who feel missing from the roster. But at this point, they feel like characters that Nintendo may not go for, because while I'm confident we might get a couple more first party characters, both Nintendo and Sakurai seem more interested in third party characters. They have really been pushing this game as the ultimate crossover and no doubt they will try to get even more companies on board to strengthen corporate relations.
Overall, at least for Bandana Dee and Dixie Kong, I would give them around a 35% chance of happening. I think they are likely, but it feels like they might get passed over despite being prominent Nintendo characters. At this point, Smash feels more like a celebration of gaming as a whole rather than just a celebration of Nintendo. I think characters like Cloud and Joker have really proven this point.
