I just watched a vid with a Shiny Gyrados on luck steriods. He squared off with 6 Pokemon by himself, and lived by a flinch and a miss. He beat everything else in one hit. A mesprit got hit by waterfall. Then it survived, BUT flinched. Then a Togetic used Metronome and used selfdestruct. Then MISSED. It was also the last Pokemon. I lol'd so hard.

Knowing about competitive Pokemon and actually playing competitively have different enough definitions for the situation to be completely plausible. For instance, when I first started playing competitively I was clearly aware of what it was and things about it, but I had never heard of Shoddy.
