Good Lord. Is that Ness? :surprised:
Nah. It is a chimera formed by parts of Ness, Birdo, Pikachu and NiGHTS directly build in Ridley's body.

Speaking of Ridley and Ness... I wonder why no one ever asks for Giygas to be in Smash Bros.

Thats nothing dude...i been playing games for years..i call myself a Ridley fan but havent even finished Super Metroid before ever!

Just recently started it for the first time and used a guide abit..not too much...im at the Wrecked ship..damn 2D Metroids are alota harder than the Prime series imo

Also i have never played any other 2D Metroid before

I just played, finished Ocarina for the first time last year

I was playing twillight princess last year too but got to a part where you have to whistle notes or something as the wolf i couldnt do it so i broke the remote and havent played it since.

I got the WW HD WiiU bundle i was playing it 2 months ago i reached dragon roost island and i had to do something similar to what i had to do in twilight princess blow something...in notes or something...the wind waker or something?

Also got Ocarina 3D sometime ago and started on Master Quest because i was feeling like a badass...(-_-)

Stuck on Zoras River and i dont wanna use a guide because i dont like to even though i have finished the game before only once...on normal mode on the GC....i know jabba the douche is next and water temple...so...ugh...i should play it but...ugh...

Gave up havent played it since...although tempted to go back because i know its a good game.

Trust me dude my skills in games and mostly now..my Patience is beyond ******** sometimez....:)
That's so sad. I've beaten all the Metroids, including the NES title and Zero Mission, and all the Legend of Zelda titles, including Master Quest. I only own Nintendo consoles and will only own them, so i'm a pretty big fanboy. Basically, if a character's in Smash, i've taken a bite out of their series, if not completed it entirely. I'm working on Earthbound now on Wii U's VC because i refuse to use emulators, i was too young when the SNES came out, and it wasn't out on Wii's VC. But enough about my gaming practices, back to Ridley. Earlier, someone posed the question of a final smash. I believe the best option, which i don't believe anyone mentioned, would have to involve the baby metroid from Super Metroid in some way. That fight is super iconic because Samus HAS TO lose. Plus, in Melee's intro, Ridley was holding it, showing Sakurai paid homage to it before. My two cents.

I should really get around to playing MP 2 & 3. Prime 1 was an amazing game, but it had one problem that, IMO, reduces it below Super and Zero Mission in terms of greatness.

Prime didn't feel "alien" enough when compared to SM/ZM. Sure, Tallon Overworld, Chozo Ruins and Phendrana Drifts were really beautiful places, but frankly, they are not what I would call "out of this world". Tallon Overworld, with it's perma-rain and great atmospheric music, emits this weird vibe that somewhat reminds me of a mix between Brinstar and Crateria, but is not quite there. Chozo Ruins was actually very well done and feels, for lack of a better word, very chozo-ish, minus the sub-par music. And Phendrana Drifts, despite it's stellar theme, doesn't look any different than a generic ice level (except for the Chapel area, that place is a masterpiece). Magmoor caverns doesn't even compare to Lower Norfair/ZM Norfair. The Space Pirate Labs and Phazon Mines were easily the best parts of the game, with a good balance between technology and alien elements (the giant blue fungi come to mind). Let's not forget Frigate Orpheon (both versions), a very isolated and dark facility with different alien species on the loose/in stasis. Also, Meta Ridley. However, above all these places, the Impact Crater was perhaps the most accurate, alien-y location there was. Sadly, it lasted too short to provide a true, deep sense of exploration.

Super and ZM, despite being incredibly limited to subterranean exploration, still succeeded in making me feel lost in a barren extra-terrestrial landscape, with great ecological variety at that. The underground and unsettling yet lush flora of Brinstar, the desert-swampy hybrid that is the Red Soil area, the abnormal bubble-caves of Norfair alongside the usual infernal acid/lava lakes scattered throughout the area, the mystic and hostile ruins of a forgotten yet ever-present civilization all over Crateria and Chozodia, the eerie, somber and dangerous places that are the Wrecked Ship and Maridia, the unwelcoming and dangerous caverns of Kraid's Lair, and so on. On top of all these, the best designed and most alien/hellish location to date is none other than Lower Norfair/Ridley's Lair. You literally stop a few moments to think: "where in the ****ing world am I". It reminds one of a lost haven, as witnessed by the exquisite classical architecture, which has fallen victim to evil and has become a Hell in its own right as result, where no human in his right mind would endeavor traversing. As you can see, I have mixed the locales from both games, as I believe that both are what make the essence of Metroid, in spite of being limited to 2D exploration.

Retro was on the right track with MP 1 (I can't speak for 2 & 3) and I hope that the next 3D Metroid game will feature amazing environments to explore in the vein of the 2D games. It does not necessarily need to be an open-world, but very close to it. I want to get lost on my quest; I want the game to force me to figure the world out on my own instead of holding my hand along the way. I want to stop and say "what is this place? it looks nothing like something I would encounter in the real world". Alien landscape + Space Pirates (mostly Ridley) = an unrivaled formula that defines Metroid and separates it from the likes of other Sci-fi series such as Halo or Mass Effect (more focused on extra-terrestrial wars and technology). Metroid has unparalleled potential among the Nintendo IPs only exceeded by Zelda in terms of western appeal. It's a shame Nintendo rarely does anything with what could have been a AAA title by now if executed adequately.

Then my cousin told me "Do you want me to do it from the beginning?" i told him to go ahead, and he was in the Ceres Station, and when he was in the room with the infant metroid alone, I asked him "Now what?" and then the orange glowing eyes apeared, and I was like "What the...." and BOOM! Ridley apeared before my eyes! and i saw how he kicked my counsin's butt...It was awesome...and that beautiful design.....his power....oh God, It may sound wierd but....It was love at the first sight....Years later...he showed me the Omega Ridley fight...and that's why i got Corruption in the first place....So yeah....Ridley is the reason why i got into Metroid.....

The one game ahead of the entire franchise for me is Metroid Prime 3. That is because it is the only Metroid game I own! :awesome:

Actually I lied, I picked up the trilogy on Black Friday. Can any Metroid fan illuminate the significance of Ridley to the Prime Trilogy. I was thinking about completing the Trilogy so that I am more aware of what Ridley in Smash entails, but I am not sure if Ridley is a prominent character in that Trilogy.
In Prime 1 Ridley is the whole reason Samus goes to Tallon IV, the planet where the game takes place, to begin with. You see signs of him at times throughout the game, which makes it so much better when you finally face him, which is just one of many reasons the Meta Ridley fight in Prime 1 is my favorite boss battle ever. He's not in Metroid Prime 2 though, which kind of stinks. In Metroid Prime 3 his presence is felt a lot due to the many Space Pirate invasions, throughout the game I nearly forgot all about Dark Samus since it crawls into a corner after the intro sequence, while I primarily associate the Space Pirates with Ridley. He also has two boss battles in Prime 3.

If you're looking for Ridley boss battles, Prime 1 and Prime 3 are excellent games for that. I'd also recommend Super Metroid, but honestly, I recommend that game to everyone, so yeah.

Yeah, I definitely agree that Echoes probably has the best boss battles in the whole trilogy. All the Temple Guardians are sick, especially Quadraxis. Not to mention the Emperor Ing, that thing is crazy. Really like the two first Dark Samus battles too, the last one is a bit plain though. The majority of the boss battles are just fun as ****.

In a perfect world, Other M Ridley would be confirmed a stage hazard almost at the same time as playable Ridley.
In a perfect world, there would be no stage hazard on the Pyrosphere and we would have playable Ridley. Seriously, Metroid needs some competitive love, and the stage looks really awesome. I wouldn't want it to be ruined by the likes of lava or Ridley for that matter.

This is what I actually speculate to happen, I believe that Pyrosphere is a neutral stage (as anything pertinent to lave or acid is certainly going to retain a sense of redundancy) and that Ridley is playable. When I first heard the infamous quote, I thought Sakurai was directly alluding to playable Ridley. Then again, I am usually wrong with all of my predictions (minus Toon Link and Rosalina). :awesome:

Yeah, I'm kinda convinced that Pyrosphere doesn't have a hazard, we haven't even seen the lava rising or anything yet. As a matter of fact, most of the WiiU stages don't have a confirmed hazard.

The internet says those two are used by Blizzard. The .mdx is apparently the model itself, with the other two being the texture files. I'm guessing it was intended to be used for modding. Supposedly some "Daemon Tools" program can open it if all you need to do is look at it for drawing/sculpting.

It would be nice to have a Metroid stage that wasn't garbage for once.

Funny that the best (playability-wise) Metroid stage might come from what is commonly called the worst Metroid game, while the worst Metroid stages (read: all of them) are from the best games (Super and Prime).

I wish we'd get something cool and unusual like Prime 2's Sanctuary or Prime 3's Skytown/Pirate Homeworld. Hell, even Norion with a cool Space Pirate vs. Federation battle going on in the background would be cool. I know I've said this before, but Sakurai has the worst taste in Metroid levels. Speaking of Metroid levels, Ridley better get a home stage if he's in. Pirate Homeworld would be peeeerfect.

I agree completely. Evidence so far would suggest that the stage is pretty peaceful, and even a background appearance by Ridley seems somewhat unlikely due to the sheer number of pictures (and footage) we've had of the stage without a trace of Ridley. Either they're REALLY going out of their way to hide this part of the stage for so terribly long, or maybe...

I still find it funny that the support group for a savage, bloodthirsty alien pirate is renowned for its compassion and tolerance.
It's like they say: "You will soon be united... IN DEATH!!" . . . context?

I too thought the same thing when I read the quote. It was only when I came to Smashboards afterwards that I saw that people had interpreted the caption in a different and more pessimistic light. Up to this point, the only Metroid stage that can somewhat be tolerated is Frigate Orpheon, and even then it's still a problem. Zebes 64 was okay at the time. Brinstar got pretty annoying real quick. Brinstar Depths was absolute ****, despite having the best music in the game. Norfair was unplayable. Hopefully the Pyrosphere will be the breath of fresh air Metroid needs in Smash as far as stages are concerned.

Behind your eyes.
The thing with Sakurai's quote for the Pyrosphere reveal is that it can accommodate all interpretations - background element, stage hazard, and playable character.

Hell, he might even just be referring to Pyrosphere's relevance to Other M. As such, the quote can serve to support any case, and thus serve none.

Unless of course you're against Ridley, in which case "common sense" and "using your head" are hard proofs that Ridley is, in fact, the stages hazard.

This is what most of us have come to think, as time has gone on.
That's what I thought from the start. I really don't get where this stage hazard idea is coming from. It's probably just people making excuses.

There's one thing we haven't covered.
Ridley's sex appeal.
I'm pretty sure that's already happened too.

After 380 pages, I'm guessing you've all covered everything ten times over by now. Still, it can never hurt to reiterate a point. :p
Reiterating points is what this thread has thrived to become, so by all means, feel free to continue. With the influx of new supporters that have come, there is surely going to be a huge wave of haters coming in, so it always helps to have the arguments ready.

Like Kamiko said, this has already been covered a while back. Lagging behind, are you, son?
