Important The Ridley for SSB4 Thread - End of an Era

One of the main issues I've seen people have against Other M!Ridley is that he's too plug-ugly and if it were used, it wouldn't be the same.

As if Ridley was trying to compete in a beauty pageant.

So, if it would be alright, I'd like to ask a question regarding future character reveals.

It seems that most people agree that we're probably going to see Diddy Kong revealed to coincide with the release of Tropical Freeze. I hear some speculation that we might get a Direct later this month, possibly showing off a newcomer like King K. Rool, for example. So that got me thinking, what kind of character reveals would affect Ridley's chances for appearing as a playable character? Are there any specific veterans whose reveals would be helpful/harmful to Ridley? Any likely newcomers that would support/lower his chances? This of course not counting the obvious "new Metroid rep. that isn't Ridley" situation.

Hello everybody, I really like this Thread, and I am a Ridley fan, definitely. I have to be grateful to all of you, reading your post mekes me smile, and the references and Size Comparisons had helped me a lot, since I want to draw, sculpt, or do many other things about Ridley while im learning to become a designer. I have all my hopes that Ridley will make it this time in Smash 4...I even have friends that are "Too Bigots", and I defend Ridley with all have....

On the subject of Batman analogies, seeing Other M Ridley was kind of like seeing Titan Joker at the end of Arkham Asylum. It just felt weird for the character.

:3 Thank you! It is really nice to have many users greeting me! Oh, and im not an expert at sculpting (yet), im more into drawing (also not an expert...) I only have sculpted a Bust? of Anubis for a proyect, and im not good at drawing some things, like the human figure, but i will say, I draw Ridley (way too much...but it is because i love him) for fun....especially Brawl version because it is more easy to draw, but not in all angles....Oh, and my avatar, well it is from an image I found in a japanese site, the one who made it uses somthing called MMD....I have like 3 zip files with the Omega Ridley model, but i do not know how or with what i can view it.....that design is so detailed....that one of my dreams is to someday be able to sculpt it.....and drawing it, of course...Oh, and about my "too biggot" friends...I just say to them that when Ridley is confirmed, I will point at them and say "IN YOUR FACES!!!" :3 Just for fun....

You covered the obvious answer, so no, I can't think of any scenario in which a non-Metroid newcomer or veteran could affect positively or negatively Ridley's chances. Well... now that I think about it, if King K. Rool was revealed to be playable, one could interpret that as Sakurai being open to adding more villains to the series and that would obviously affect Ridley's chances positively. That said, while I want him to be playable as much as Ridley, I am not really counting with that happening, Dixie is much more likely to be DK's third rep.

The only character that could potentially help Ridley's chances, at least to my knowledge, would be someone who's very popular in the West (but not so much in Japan). Little Mac, who was an Assist Trophy in Brawl, could really help Ridley's chances because it basically indicates that Sakurai is willing to change certain roles for characters to make them playable, and that he's seriously considering the wishes of the Western fan base.

I don't think there's any potential newcomer that could affect his chances negatively. The same goes for veterans.

Getting Dixie and not K. Rool is like us getting like...a super-cloney Dark Samus or Anthony Higgs instead of Ridley.

Well...King K. Rool would be sort of a double-edged sword for Ridley's chances.

On the one hand, if K. Rool is in Smash 4, then he will obviously be a heavy. If Ridley were to be in the game as well, I'd assume he'd also be a heavy...so it's possible that, if the roster is indeed limited and we only get one new heavy character as a result, and we get K. Rool...I can see that going against our favourite purple space dragon.

However! Adding K. Rool would also mean that adding a big giant heavy is indeed a possibility, and maybe we'd get two of them. I personally love heavy characters, and if Sakurai truly is interested in adding characters with uniqueness and possibilities for rather different movesets, then there's really no reason for him to sit down and really take a look at Ridley in terms of how he can make him work. We've already seen that the heavy characters we currently have are significantly larger than in Brawl (Dedede especially seems to have gotten larger), so having an 'ultimate' heavy that pushes the boundary on that class wouldn't be out of the question.

I sincerely hope we get the Ridster in this one. He has a huge amount of support and countless fans, he's a great villain (which we need more of) and the Metroid series really needs another rep. If we're already seeing some drastic alterations to the formula for Smash 4, then there's no better time to incorporate him into the roster than now.

Personally, I always thought a Captain Falcon-style one with him grabbing an enemy, pummeling them for a bit with all of his pointy bits, then doing the facegrind which transitions into an insta-kill would be alright. Don't really care what he gets, though.
